Egypt & its sights are awesome. Everything in Egypt is awesome except that 99.9% of Egyptian people are trying to scam money out of you. Yes, even your Hotel. Its exhausting & demoralizing, trying to keep a good mood & enjoy your trip while all Egyptians see "all tourists" as "marks". I have been all over the world to some of the most impoverished countries & never have I felt like I did in Egypt. There are scams all over the world, but in "Egypt", "Everybody" is trying to scam you. Anybody who has been to Egypt, can attest to this. Some people will say, "oh, its what you make of it." Like I said, I have been all over the world ....etc, & always make the best of it..Long story short, Egyptians see it as a national pastime to scam tourists, they see it as their right, & they love it when you actually finally get upset when, after the 10th time telling them, " no thank you", you do. They act offended & cant believe that you got upset. Bottom line is, I have nothing but good things to say about all the rest of the countries I have been to over the last 20 years of traveling, & would love to go back to all of them...except "Egypt". I saw what I needed to see, & I will never go back.

DEFINITELY a great place! We got a very warm welcome. It’s directly across from the Nile. The manager had lots of good recommendations that were reasonably priced!

Hotel with good location and unusual staff (it was not possible to find staff in hotel, i have never seen somebody on reception, the owner has changed for me some euro with low rate, in spite of i noticed about t, but he did not care. He offered me to left my luggage in the lobby, where as I noticed was nobody and even i asked to leave in safer place he refused me). Concerns to rooms, they should be cleaned more frequently, as they have heavy furniture it attracts a lot of dust. Breakfast was good enough.

I really appreciated the staff of this hotel, who were extremely helpful. In particular, I want to thank Kareem for his help with arranging a tour for me to the antiquities and also for his patience and help on my final night when it looked as if I might have a problem with my flight back from Luxor and I had to make contact with an Egyptair office late at night. The restaurant staff were also friendly - and the food was delicious, with very generous portions. From the restaurant there is a nice view out over the Nile and it is only a short boat ride across the river to reach Karnak temple. I was also grateful for the very pleasant driver whom the hotel found for me, to take me to the Valley of the Kings and other places, and also to go back to the airport. He arrived very punctually and was willing to wait for me patiently if needed. In all, this was a great place to stay in Luxor because of the kindness and friendliness of the staff and their contacts.

This was a great hotel, one of the best of our Egypt trip. It overlooks the Nile and is located on Luxor's quieter west bank, just a short walk from the ferry to the east side. The West bank has the tombs and a few small restaurants; the East bank has temples, shops and traffic. El Mesala's owner was extremely helpful as we tried to figure out an affordable return to Cairo and one young man on staff there (named Islam?) stood out in Egypt by steadfastly refusing tips, saying all help provided was "his job". Room was clean, sunny and clean. It had a refrigerator and small balcony so was perfect for buying food and bringing it back for a quiet dinner watching the Nile. The included breakfast was very good and served in the rooftop restaurant. They have a lovely small swimming pool, perfect after a hot day of tomb visits.
