Always love staying in this pub and this time an added bonus of an Oktoberfest night had a fabulous time as our gig was cancelled comfy bed and a good price highly recommend

A nice little hotel but it is a bar with a 1am licence, this means of a saturday night i stayed there was alot of sound leakage, i recon midweek it probably calmer, the riom was nice and i had a heavy discount thanks to this site loyalty so well worth the £17 i paid,

One very badly lit room. The curtains were torn in the bedroom. Bathroom had no curtains or blinds so light was coming into the room from early morning. Over priced for what is a poor quality room.

Room was fantastic. Service was very friendly too, even going above and beyond.

The Old Crown is far & away the oldest property I've ever stayed at. It's a really neat piece of history.

super clean and well quiet room above perfectly located very old school boozer (the oldest in brum?) watch out for the low beams on your way to the room. m

Love staying here

Loved the building itself, has tons of charm. We went to a concert at O2 Institute and the location was perfect for that. Bathroom was nice, rooms okay considering the age of the building, but the bed was horrible. They had put a couple of extra pillows under my matress to build it up a little, but really, the bed was still horrible.

No parking as advertised when I booked a year ago. It's basically a night club in the garden, so just be aware it wasn't a quiet stay. The communal bathrooms were very clean and a great shower. Nice pub downstairs. All in All good value for the night

Would book here again, friendly staff.
Very close to coach station

The room was adequate for our one night but needed for it to be en-suite.

Great location

This is the oldest pub in Birmingham, the refurbishment is excellent keeping with history of pub. Rooms are lovely. Location fab. The sub is lively at night and has a large covered garden playing music late into the night. Loved it.

Good location for 1 or 2 nights and for the price - for what I needed. Room OK - but basic details overlooked. A bed was obviously broken (mattress, base). An essential light over the sink in the room was also broken. A towel was ripped. There was noise - but not until very late (it IS a pub!)

top venue, close to town centre, very reasonable price for room. So impressed going back next July.

For a building built in the 14th Century you would expect things to not be so up to date. Well, yes there was that to some degree. The TV remote did not work for example. Suppose it is because the Tele was not invented until the 19th Century so I should have expected this. However the service should also not have been from the 14th Century either. I was left waiting for about 20 minutes to check in. Good job I was not in a rush to go back to the 21st Century at that moment in time. Ok once checked in (of sorts. I was only asked for my name and that was it) I was given the guided tour. Please note that the steps up to the bedroom from the main part and also the rear entrance are extremely steep and if you have issues with steps this is not the place for you.
The bedroom was comfy. There was a TV that I could not watch due to the aforementioned remote not working.
The outside was not so great. Major roadworks taking place. So even though it was quietish at night from not much traffic (after the bar closed at 23.30), at the start of the working day it was extremely loud with workmen drilling and cutting concrete.
And then when I tried to leave, there was no one at the front of the bar, the front door was locked with an actual iron rod, and then having to try and get out the rear was like a krypton factor course of locked doors and slightly open ones. So decent but could be better.

What a lovely gem. The house is from 1368! And it is absolutely beautiful!

Nice character but double bed was uncomfortable, no breakfast available even though it was supposedly included! Staff were helpful.
Outside the road was being replaced in the whole street but this was not mentioned when booked, so noisy ftt et on 07:30 am on the Saturday morning!

Lovely friendly staff, lovely clean room and bathroom is nice. Highly recommend.

Staff were very nice and friendly and the room itself was not bad for the money. The bar downstairs is also great.
The major issue that the heritage building has no noise isolation at all. I went to bed after the bar downstairs had closed but noise from around the area (it is a busy area) was very loud through to around 0400.
Noise isolation between rooms is also non-existent and when the couple next door retired to the bedroom, I cannot express how grateful I was that she resisted his generous proposal of coital relations.
As mentioned the noise issue may not be resolvable due to the heritage status of the building but unfortunately in its current state it is not suitable for overnight stays.

Fine for a night's stay, friendly staff and walking distance to city centre. The building is very old so wonky floors (can't be helped) and fittings in need of an update. The main negative was how noisy the road outside was during the night, with (drunk) people shouting/screaming into the early hours. Not the hotel's fault of course!

Easy to find, extremely helpful and friendly staff on arrival and throughout our stay. EXceptional value for money. Bedroom was very large, with an extremely comfortable bed and lounge area. Shower room was also big; shower was excellent. Room was very quiet. Would recommend and would definitely stay there again if visiting Birmingham. Thank you for a lovely stay.

I thought the property was well situated since I had an operation nearby and it was ideal. The inside was relatively clean upon my arrival and the decors was nice. I also appreciated the tea coffee utensils in the room. However, when I arrived at the hotel, I was a bit early because my surgery had finished early. I waited in the hallway while two of the female attendees seemed to be busy. I then halted one of them and asked her if the room is already ready since check out is at 11 am for other people. I was there at 12pm. The female attendee watched me and told "Could you wait outside because you're too early?" without even asking who I was etc. I was like "Could i eat lunch there while waiting then?" The response was "Yeah " and she walked away. All this time, I was limping with sutures on my two feet, it was excruciating to bear that attitude. It didn't stop there. No one came to my table in the restaurant area the first day not even to see if I was ok. I wasn't able to order anything to eat etc. After getting my key without any formality , I went to my room. The next day, the housecleaners came and knocked my door because they were cleaning the rooms and the floor. I had to leave the room which was normal but limping. I did so three times that day because the housecleaners never came leaving my dirty towels, garbage, not renewing my coffee. Thanks to a new and professional female attendee the next day, she apologised and helped me.She made my stay pleasant.

Roy and his wife made our stay so friendly and helpful

Very charming hotel, heard during the last night a few creepy giggles in our room, but because it is haunted they say, it added to the charm of the hotel.
Friendly and helpful staff.
There was a lot of noise outside during the night, but it was the Queen's jubilee so not the hotel's fault.

The hotel was ideal, I was attending a festival locally in digbeth and I wanted somewhere close to this and also somewhere I could walk back to. If you have a single room then you will have to use the shared

Being so old gives the building a unique feel and it has lots of quirky, unusual parts. If you like history, you’ll love it.
Great pub food too and the staff were friendly.
It is in a noisy area so far as traffic is concerned, but I’d still return - and it’s an easy walk from New Street station. A big thumbs up.

The room was comfortable and the amenities were good. My only concern would be the water temperature of the shower, which was so hot it left a red mark on my girlfriends shoulder,

great location and service. In a very popular part of town with lots of bars nearby. extremely loud. if you go on a weekend be prepared for this bar and nearby bars to be bumping until 1-2am. Walls are paper thin, so you hear everything from outside and rooms next to you.

The room was great, nice rustic old feel with plenty of character.
Greeted warmly by staff and personally shown to my room and around the site to know where access is
I will stay again

Beautiful little hotel above a pub. Beautiful historic building both outside and in. Wasn't initially keen onthe idea of shared bathrooms but the bathrooms are well maintained, very clean and very nice. Very good strong showers. We booked 3 double rooms for our group of 6. Great price! Couldn't find anthing cheaper in the area and nothing anywhere near as nice. The rooms and general inside of the hotel are very pretty. Was initially worried it might be cold or noisy in the room because the windows looked very old but had no problems with either. Had dinner in the pub downstairs. Fish and chips were great.
We had some issues navigating the area by car and finding parking due to the massive road works in the area, but was easy enough on foot. Only 5 minutes walk to the O2 Institute.
