This was a phenomanal hotel that is great for families. We booked a 2 bedroom hotel apt that was able to have all 6 of us in a very comfortable fashion. Amenities include beach facilities, water sports and commection to the main hotel and shops and restaurants in the area. Highly recommended for families.

There was an absurd bridge to cross every time to enter the room. The staff were friendly but not helpful. No hose in bathrooms although this is common in an Arabic country. The showerbox was hard to use and leaked water. The coffee in the room was just Nescafe. The kitchen was good and the pool was OK. I won’t stay here again.

Much quieter than the rest of the complex but that was how we wanted it.... Far enough away from central city but still within a short taxi drive to airport, downtown Abu Dhabi and Yaz where the Formula 1 track is located. Will definitely be going back .....

We had an amazing week at the Shanghai-La. The apartment was of high standard, nicely decorated and fulfilled all our needs (fully equipped with washing machine, dish washer etc). The staff is extremely friendly and service minded, and very fond of children. They happily took us for rides in the golf cars just to make our 1.5 year old son happy. The beach is lovely and while the location is overlooking the Ritz on the other side of the water rather than the horizon it is great for all the activities in Abu Dabhi. Also, the beach and pool area is facing the sun set and the afternoons were magical. Next door to the hotel there is a souk with a supermarket, cafes and restaurants- very convenient for a family with small children. We couldn’t be more happy with our stay.

My rooms was right next to a nice pool and the beach, the rooms were very clean and specious, the hotel facilities are above five stars, including the electric carts and abra boat that transport you between the different parts of the hotel, the spa was amazing and relaxing, the beach and various pools were great. My family was really really happy during the few days we spent there.

The standard of Shangri-La normally is good, But this hotel is the exception. Avoid to stay at the residences ( they are not well maintained and the quality is low), skip the breakfasts buffet, you will be regret.

The residences were very quiet on a Saturday - I only saw one other family while there. The pool was nice - and deserted. The room was great - very spacious, and with all amenities.

excellent service and facility

Hotel is fine and close to a small mall and the shangri la hotel which you can go to both using club cars or a small boat in a water canal (free). I did not like the hotel because it is a residrnce as there is no vallet parking, and it feels like you are home because you do not enter into the typical hotel lobby and see guests and all

THis was our second stay at The hotel and our experience surpassed the first time. Quite excellent service, especially for families with young children. A special Thanks to Juliane and her team who made it a great Eid break for us.

Outstanding hotel. This is the third time we have stayed in the Shangri-La residence - it is perfect for family holidays since the rooms are quiet and there is a private beach and swimming pool which are used infrequently so you feel like you have the place to yourselves. Rooms excellent and very well equipped - and we got a free upgrade to a larger appartment this time. International buffet in hotel is outstanding and both the adults and children love it (excellent selection of dishes and children under 6 eat free and under 12 half price). Hotel facilities are outstanding and staff are very attentive and friendly. The perfect family hotel which allows some luxury for the parents and a good time for the kids.

The best staff ever experienced

We had a phenomenal stay at this hotel. Since there were 4 girls, we opted for the Shangri-La Residences (2 bedroom apartment). The apartment was modern and spacious. There was a nice balcony where we ate our meals and hung out more than in the living room itself! Everything in the hotel was top of the line, the buffet style breakfast, the main infinity pool as well as the private pools in the Residences. The service was great and if anything was needed the staff was prompt and helpful. We also had a nice time at the Pearls and Caviar lounge located on the property (so much so that we went two nights in a row!). The hotel is conveniently located next door to the Abu Dhabi Souk that not only has great shopping but also several restaurants and bars/nightclubs. The hotel is also a short cabride to the Sheikh Zayed mosque and no more than 15-20 minutes to the Corniche and other areas via taxi depending on traffic. I have never stayed in a Shangri-La hotel before this visit and now it has moved quickly to the top of my list of chains to consider when traveling. Wonderful experience!

Such a nice alternative to the other hotel options in Abu Dhabi. Serene and lovely....

Just returned from a fantastic family holiday staying in a 2 bedroom apartment.. the residences were great to give you the flexibility of eating away or at home. It had 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms. Fully serviced everyday by the housekeeper just as the shangri la hotel. We made good use of the balcony which had direct views of the pool beach and of the river across with direct views of mosque and Ritz Carlton hotel. EAch residency has its own pool and at times we were the only ones in it. Superb service from the pool attendants who even carried the towels for you. They really concentrated on your comfort providing water in ice boxes. There is a souk mall with resturants and supermarket 500 yards away and a lovely beach walkway which everyone used during day and evening. Only downside was it was very pricey to eat at hotel. Family of 4 breakfast 85 GBP p e r day . We had brunch in our apartment and order room service . Again very pricey . Burger and chips 20 GBP. The taxis are very cheap and you can take a cab to several shopping malls and eat at the food courts which offer great variety and good quality meals at very reasonable prices. The shangri la is the Best place to unwind and be stress free. . If you like the quiet life this is the place to come. .

We stayed in the Shangri-la residence. Food was too expensive and were served in plastic containers in the room. One of the nights found ants all over our bedroom dressing table. Couldn't get in touch with the manager, also had my kids in the room. No one there to assist us properly.

Don't expect Wow! type of luxury when you first see the room. This is a well-designed, understated kind of place, with everything you need for a shorter to medium-term stay. We had a studio apartment, with adequately appointed kitchen, comfortable seating area and large balcony (unfortunately not on the sunny side - good in the summer, not so good for us in the winter). The bed was comfortable and a proper king size. The bathroom was just big enough, and the shower might even be tight if you are big (we are not). As we were on the third floor, we had plenty light from the outside, and a good view over the 'Grand Canal' to the Ritz Carlton. It's a pleasant walk along the beach promenade to the souk, with its shops, restaurants, small supermarket, and cafés. On the way, you pass a couple of guest swimming pools, which although not very deep, are pleasant enough if you want to lounge at the pool. You have access to the Shangri La hotel itself, which has several restaurants and bars, plus a larger pool with pool bar facing west towards the grand mosque over the water. The wifi internet connection is surprisingly fast (it handled two laptops on skype in a conference call on skype with family at home without a stutter), and we assume the ethernet connection is even better, although we never used it.

Six night stay first week of November. Staying in studio apartment serviced daily by housekeeping. Very attentive staff throughout the whole property. Very welcoming from arrival to departure. Delightfully quiet whilst we were there, had the pristine beach to ourselves for 2 days. No problem being away from the main hustle of Abu Dhabi, it's 20 minutes in a taxi which are cheap and reliable . Happy to recommend the hotel time and time again.

We stayed in the residences which were perfect with a toddler, great baby pools and easy access to the souk for some food and bits and pieces. Would stay again

We stayed for 2 nights and it was wonderful. The staff was amazing and went above and beyond to make our stay great. They discovered it was my husband's birthday and even produced a delicious dessert for us and sang happy birthday. We will definitely visit here again.

So so great to book the residences as you get all the facilities of the hotel but with the convenience of your own pool and beach areas. As well as that, the residences were perfect for a family of 4 or 5 with own kitchen, laundry, lounge etc. Cheaper and much more spacious and self contained than interconnecting rooms. Loved the water and grand mosque views. so many restaurants to choose from in the Souk as well as a supermarket to stock up on food for self catering and of course there is also the excellent room service with a dining table and a balcony table to eat it on.
