great stay. 1 mile from center, but easy to get around. Great grounds to relax, rooms with view amazing. Would def stay again and staff very friendly. For non english speakers learn some spanish it will go along way. Also use of common kitchen very helpful. Basic breakfast was great.

Location is great, but the rest is not up to par.

Left sunglasses behind and we contacted Tropic Bacalar, we sent a transfer of money to get them shipped to us to condo in Mexico and appears it was a scam as we never received them. The address we provided was the same address we put for Amazon and other purchases and they all arrive. Tropic Bacalar however used the excuse that the address is not complete which is not true. Disappointed we didn’t get glasses back and paid for the shipping.

Bacalar in general is a MUST place to visit

If you want hot water and don't speak Spanish, don't stay here. None of the staff speaks English, making even basic communication very difficult. Kayaks aren't included, so you have to pay 600 pesos to rent them for the day. We never got hot water during our 3-night stay at the hotel. The room is extremely bare, no little fridge, no side lamps, only one big light above the bed making it impossible to read at night. Only 1 pillow per person, badly stained towels and pillowcases. Electricity kept being cut off, leading to a very warm room (no AC) and no Wi-Fi. The only positives of this place are the beautiful view from the room and the hammock on the balcony. The nice garden and immediate proximity to the lagoon, meaning you can kayak/paddleboard straight from the hotel, are also bonus points. Breakfast was free and decent. All in all, however, I would not stay here again if I were to return to Bacalar, as the negatives unfortunately outweigh the positives, at least in my opinion.

View from balcony was great. exactly as shown on website. Room was basic but clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast was very good with a reasonable selection. There was a great restaurant about 2-3 minute walk from hotel on opposite side of street.

Super simple and clean, quiet too. Located n a good area of the lagoon for swimming, and directly across from bird island, making for a nice kayak trip. Only potful was very low water pressure. And chilly water…but that’s easy enough to get past, given the rest of the place is perfect!

I’m not sure how many rooms there are at this property, but it seems a very boutique hotel. There were four rooms in my building. They gave me the Papaya room.
If you’re looking for quiet, this is your place I love that this hotel offered kayak as well as paddle boards, they had a pontoon and a sailboat. There is a bar on property. Tons of seating area throughout and hammocks.
My room had a hammock in front of a glass lighting door. *** the sliding door lock for the room it’s a bit to wrestle with, but I felt very safe. The rooms are very simplistic yet clean.
I love that the property is right on the water. *** There is free parking. There’s also a very steep ramp that goes into a small parking area. But I prefer parking on the street.
There’s a great restaurant four minutes drive time on the same street. Chiltepan Maricos has outdoor terrace sitting. You can get a partial view of the lagoon.

This small hotel right on the lagoon was my favorite hotel in Mexico. Originally, I was in a room without a view but the woman that runs the place moved me to a room with a beautiful view of the lagoon. The woman was so helpful and went out of her way for me, which I really appreciated. Would definitely stay again!

The 4 rooms with lagoon view are worth it, the other 3 not so much for the price.

This place is a gem in Bacalar! My husband and I were looking to disconnect from our routine and recharge our energies, and staying at Tropic Bacalar was the best decision we could make.
This is a boutique hotel just with seven rooms, with excellent service. All the staff gives their best to make you feel at home, of course with an excellent view and in a great spot. Nestor from the front desk and Manuel from the bar are the best.
Nestor recommended we wake up early to see the sunrise; it was one of our best experiences.
You can also schedule some activities at Tropic Bacalar, like renting a kayak, bicycle, or paddle boarding (I believe they have a tour on sunrise.
We booked a room with a view of the lagoon; believe me, you must do this. Every morning you can wake up to a fantastic view, plus you have direct access to the lagoon.
If you want to recharge energy, have fun, and enjoy nature, Tropic Bacalar is your best option.

Beautiful location in the lagoon, can’t beat it. The rooms are small but very comfortable, a very peaceful and laid back vibe. There is no restaurant or bar but that is fine with us! There are bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk or a 20 minute walk/an easy cab ride into town. We would definitely stay here again.

It is a beautiful place, well looked after and the lagoon view is unbeatable. Great cocktails and hammocks to spend the day!

This place is incredible. I don't want to leave a good review so I can get a room when I return. Wonderful quiet spot on the water, a little out of town.
Great accommodation, clean, with cold buffet breakfast provided, but a small kitchen shared to do your own cooking.
Great hospitality, friendly and accommodating. I would not hesitate to recommend or to visit again.
Like goi g to cottage country back home, but only in the incredible Bacalar.

Very nice location right in front of the lagoon, the room has what you need but they need to do something about the water pressure in the shower, is almost non existent

The guy at the front desk was amazing and very friendly. He was very helpful.

Everyone was really nice and helpful and the location on the water was great. The downstairs water access room was a little uncomfortable at times because people would walk in front of my room to get to the other room, and when you only have one door that is also your window, this is pretty important. I'd recommend they block off that part so you don't have to walk on my patio to get to the other room

Booked a room that was a little more $ because it was on the second floor and had a nicer view. When we arrived we were told that expedia had made our reservation for a ground floor room even though i had booked through hotels.com. they were very nice but said there were no rooms upstairs with a view.

Shower head has a leak spraying water to the toilet area.

The only thing this place has going for it is it's lagoon front location. The hotel is decent, 4 lagoon facing rooms, and 4 more without a view. The rooms are small and basic, but clean. There is no restaurant on site which means a trek into town (20 minute walk) for food. They advertise a 'cocktail' bar, but it only sells beer. This bar also plays music all day and into the night (the same Ibiza mix on a loop non stop) at a high volume. They charge 200 pesos for an hour in a kayak, or 250 for an hour on the SUP. All this and they charge over $100 per night. Not worth it. You can do much better. There are lots of options to chose from that will give you the same view at a better value. Try CasaShiva.

Great place with friendly staff, had an amazing time in Bacalar.

The room was rather small for four people. We booked 2 nights at the place but decided not to stay any. We asked the front desk if we can turn our two nights into two rooms, 1 night and they said no (they had several rooms and we only saw one room occupied). We also had to park on the street when they had an open lot that fit about 5 cars comfortably.
However, it did have a nice view of the lagoon and rentals for kayaking and paddling.

Had a lovely stay here! They had a cool festival going on when we were here. Hammocks overlooking the lagoon were a nice touch. They also had a bar on site which came in handy ;) Aurora at the reception was also very helpful and can advise you on so many things. She makes sure her guests are happy 😊
