Pleasantly surprised by this place . I enjoyed my time there perfect location staff was friendly

We chose this venue as it was an affordable option for a quick stop - we were so impressed! The rooms were spacious and quiet and beautifully appointed, there was a lovely woman on reception who suggested a great restaurant for dinner across the road, and the breakfast the next morning was delicious. All in all a great stay

Great hotel, friendly staff, recommend full English breakfast!
3.8
Beautiful building with a lovely reception and dining room. Great staff but the room was in alright condition with the light falling out the ceiling and wallpaper peeling off. Bed was very comfy and the bathroom was very clean. Overall, the staff and cleanliness make this an average stay.
3.8
Hotel very run down, stair carpets patched with gaffer tape!
Shower poor
No shampoo or shower gel
TV poor

Unfortunately the hotel had no lifts which when staying on the 3rd floor is an issue (I should have checked),No light bulb in my bedside light. The bar said it closed at 11pm but we arrived at 10.40pm and it was already closed due to an older couple being drunk and falling over, the said older couple went outside for a cigarette. We were sitting in the foyer and a waitress opened the door to talk to the drunk couple letting in the cold and cigarette smoke, when we mentioned this we were rudely told that "we are bringing them back in" which did not happen for another 5 minutes or so. The breakfast was farcical following a smoke alarm which went off at 7.30am for no more than 10 seconds the entire hotel arrived at breakfast within half an hour or so. Firstly no orange juice as they had ran out? its breakfast go buy some. No tea which when I mentioned it the waitress weighed the tea urn as if I was lying? No hot food was out and as soon as it came out it was gone so we waited for over an hour and a half to get some hot food. at 9.55am we were informed breakfast was closing at 10am and at 9.58am the breakfast buffet was finally all out and cleared away at 10am. You could not write this very unorganised

Never before have I wanted to leave a hotel so soon, where do I start, after check in we had no milk, coffee, sugar or toilet roll. Went and got them, then found no remote control for TV. Breakfast - £10 each, I've had better in a bus station cafe. Food cold, what was put out anyway, seemed they just put it out when someone complained, plate heater wasn't working, apparently heating isn't switched on until November, staff rude and why oh why would you put carrots on the breakfast menu. The room was filthy, bathroom disgusting with rust, cracked tiles, black grout and window paint peeling, all evidence provided to the receptionist who handled our complaint well. Felt so sorry for her though as others were complaining. One star review is only because of the receptionist Kayleigh and the fact I can't score zero. I've stayed in better hostels, the front facade is spectacular the back is like an inner city block of 1960s flats or a pensioners home. Don't be conned out of your money and if Hotels.com can, they should remove it.

Was a lovely room and fabulous building, live the squeeky floor boards and beds very comfortable. Only downside was no heating and it was cold.
Heater supplied in wardrobe along with a fan, but small heater for a big room. Did not make much of an impact. Im sure maybe next month the hrating will be on. All in all loved the two night stay here.
3.8
Hotel great, staff great, room great.
Pillows awful, room too warm on arrival despite no radiators being switched on.
A member of staff (I presume), banging on the door of a room nearby at midnight, and the ensuing banging of doors for the following 30 minutes, isn’t something we’d like to experience again.
Overall though, we’d stay again.

The hotel was a little dated, and I had some very noisy neighbours but the room was clean, however I did not received any cleaning service for the first two days of my stay.
For the amount paid, it was very useful and easy access to Oxford where I was working.
3.8
Room was sufficient for our needs, the bed was lovely and comfortable. Some parts need a bit of attention and are run down but it didn't impact greatly on our stay.
The breakfast was amazing. Cannot fault anything in the bar or restaurant. Staff were lovely.

Enjoyed our 3 day stay at this Whatley Hall hotel. Just a few problems 1) TV remote did not work on arrival. 2) The bathroom basin did not hold the water in the basin . Reported problems to reception and quickly sorted out the problems. Breakfast good , but could do with plate warmer as plates very cold as also cups very cold cooling off the tea and breakfast very quickly.

Our room was dirty, the carpet was all stained, there was a metre circle mouldy leak in the bathroom ceiling the above shower.
The windows had thick dirt and mould around the handles to open, needless to say did not touch wallpaper was hanging off above the bed clearly damp in the room, no central light, managed with 2 bedside lamps and desk light.
Despite complaining o the next morning, an attempt was made to clean the windows not very successful.
Daresay will not return shocking weekend away

The old building is in dire need of refreshing. It is in a very tired and is scruffy in parts. Very limited menu . Some staff seemed lacking in basic training . The restaurant is very limited and the menu basic. Complimentary tea and cofee in the room but no milk? Had to request it from reception. A good location, but the whole setup needs attention

On arrival we found that the TV didn’t work, there was no milk in the room for tea and coffee, the bedside lamp didn’t work and the toilet seat was broken. The bathroom wasn’t terribly clean - see image. I was staying with my young child but there was quite a lot of noise from surrounding rooms too.

It is a beautiful hotel. Just a couple of small things, it needs a bit of TLC with cleaning but appreciate it’s a very old building, shutters to outside windows didn’t meet but I didn’t mind the fresh air. The shower wasn’t very powerful again only a minor thing and despite booking a double bed it was two pushed together, again for the price it was perfectly acceptable and not a major deal and we will definitely be back again. The breakfast was 5*

I’m afraid our stay was not what we expected. The room was unclean despite not being available until 15 minutes after the book in time. The room was in need of a refurbishment.
There was a warning in the bathroom stating the bath mat must be used but there wasn’t one. I asked at the desk for one and the receptionist said she would send one up to the room. This didn’t happen so we had to shower without.
We were kept awake through the night by the sounds of other guests in the room next to us and above us having sexual relations.
Overall a disappointing stay and will not be returning.

In desperate need of renovation. Room was out dated and cleanliness was questionable.
Lovely staff trying their best under impossible circumstances to keep the guests happy.

I greatly enjoyed my stay at Whately Hall. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The room and the common spaces were clean. The elevator/lift worked. The room was not at all expensive, and the food was top notch -- restaurant quality. It's basically across the street from the town center on High St., within walking distance of the bus center and the train (which is a bit further out). It's also directly across the street from the taxi cab car park.

A well positioned city centre hotel with nice grounds, friendly helpful staff and fair value for money

Beautiful historic building and gardens in a very pretty town. The staff were very friendly and helpful too.
3.8
I arrived to find an historic building, with wood panelling, broad wooden railed staircase & a warm welcome. A very decent evening meal was booked, eaten in a well kept, stepped garden. The service was excellent. I new my stay was going to be enjoyed, & it was. Hopefully back next year for the Cropredy music festival. I will stay at the Hall, if available.

To start with the good points
Staff were helpful and Friendly, The bed linen was clean and fresh, the location was perfect.
However, the hotel itself was very tired, tape on the carpets covering holes, stains on the carpets in the bedroom and lounge areas, black fungus in the shower making it unusable, corridor doors banging all night due to no cushioning.
Whilst we accept to put things right would cost a lot of money some of the fundamentals need to be addressed urgently to make a stay inviting

Nice room and a comfy bed

Really great stay!
Comfortable, clean, lovely staff, lovely bar and garden, fantastic location and walkable to everything we wanted. Huge range of places to eat and convenience stores within a few minutes! Staff were so kind and helpful.
3.8
Good comfortable stay. Some maintenance needs doing especially to box gutters in seated garden. But nice staff and lovely building, would stay again.
3.8
I found the staff very helpful , kind and professional. Food was enjoyable and pleasant. Breakfast was a little late start at 07:00 . The hotel is quite old and worn .ripped carpet. on the stairs . room carpet dirty , soap and shower gel both empty ,mould on the bath sealant in the.
Again staff very pleasant so comments do NOT reflect on the staff at all.
3.8
The staff are always lovely and it is a very convenient location.

Check in was lovely, nice old building but it just went down hill from there. Everywhere was grubby and tired. Not seen a duster, let alone a cleaner.
Bed sheets were clean but not much else. TV didn't work, view would have been nice if you didn't have look through a mosaic of grime to see anything. It wasn't even cheap, I would have been offended paying half the price.

Did the job
3.8
Poor value for money. Outdated rooms, mouldy shower curtain and just a general musty smell. Soap and shower gels provided but nearly empty.
3.8
Bloodstains and hair in the bathroom. Spiderweb in the corners. Dust on everything. It was like the hotel was abandoned during Covid-19 and nothing has been cleaned or fixed since. Terrible!
3.8
Very comfortable. Good value. Satisfying breakfast. Central location.
3.8
Room was dated and could have been a little cleaner, but was comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, and plenty of it.
The parking ticket the next morning put a bit of a dampner on things as we hadn't realised and weren't advised at reception, that the parking spaces at the front weren't hotel parking but public pay-and-display. Would be helpful if guest could be warned of this when arriving!
Overall not a bad stay (apart from the parking ticket), but to be honest for what the room cost, I had expected it to be more modern and up to date.
3.8
Excellent location, staff extremely friendly and helpful
Top quality breakfast
A very pleasant stay

Beautiful old building in a super location. Gorgeous grounds. Staff very helpful. Just a little pongy in parts of the building - a little damp I suppose.

Very friends staff and a great location.
Hotel is a little tired but still clean.

My partner and I wanted a romantic weekend away so we upped our usual budget for 3 nights in a historic hotel.
We booked a basic room so didn’t expect anything boutique, but the room was appalling.
We didn’t know that the Hall had a cheap extension fit for council housing built on the back in 1971, in which we were plonked.
The carpet and furnishings seemed just as old as the building.
The chairs had a shiny greyish greasy film on them, the originally white curtains were stained a rancid orange, the broken, splintered table leg had been bodged with screw.
We could hear every word from the neighbouring rooms through the paper thin walls, the grubby window looked fit for an old static caravan, and the wafer thin pillows and lumpy mattress was horrid to sleep on.
For me, the bathroom was the last straw. The toilet was caked in thick brown stains, there were pubic hairs strewn on the floor, the curtain was orange, there were hairs stuck to the tiles, the foot towel was stained, there was no hand soap or shampoo in the bottle so I had to use body wash for my hair, and the shower was in fact unusable altogether as the knob to adjust the temperature was missing and set to scalding hot, I couldn’t see without my glasses and sliced my fingers in 6 places trying to twist the exposed end. I ended up resorting to repeatedly tipping my water bottle on my head from the cold tap.
I asked the receptionist for a refund the next morning, she said it’s underway but I’ve had no confirmation.
3.8
Shower didn’t work, bath didn’t work, soap dispenser didn’t work and a used bottle of water left in the room when I checked in, general condition is poor.
Reported the shower in the morning, returned later that day, nothing had been done to resolve it, no room service and no one took responsibility!
Hotel was fully booked so was initially told there was no alternative, there was, they just didn’t want to upgrade my room at their cost.
Sleep on a bench, it will be cleaner!
3.8
I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the place. The lift we had to use stank. There was what could have been rust running down the tiles. This could have been wiped off. There was mold on the curtain around the bath.
