My stay was ruined by the refusal to return my deposit for any incidental expenses. I was told that the £25 would be returned on checkout. On request for the refund I was informed that it was being retained because I stayed in a dog-friendly room when I had not been informed at any time previously. In my opinion this is dishonest and I will not stay here again

Lovely location. Bathroom very very tiny.
Staff friendly polite.
3.9
Very good breakfast and service. Some areas could do woth updating.
3.9
Room had uneven flooring and the bed was broken on one side, the room overall could use some TLC
3.9
Everything was walkable, so a great location. Friendly and helpful staff.
3.9
The service at breakfast (and previous days lunch extremely slow) rooms okay as was a 600 year old property and quite comfortable.
Parking was fine.
3.9
Simple room, couple of chairs and bed moderately comfortable, but all clean.
Light in mirror above basin wasn't working.
3.9
Authentic period hotel.
3.9
Nice historic building, very good and friendly service

It's a fascinating old hotel with different parts dating from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. It's not been much modernised so floors are uneven and ceilings in the bedrooms low- part of its charm, but some people would prefer modernisation and more uptodate facilities.
The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is freshly prepared and there's a wide choice of cooked food. It's in a good position, close to the cathedral and shops, and there's a car park.
3.9
Perfect nigh away for a business trip. Great central location with parking. Have stayed at the White Hart a few times and if you are looking to stay in a place with some history and a lot of character, then this is the one for you.

It’s a privilege to stay in this ancient venue, the public areas are splendid. Room 9 on the first floor was quiet, fairly accessible, and has a well designed en-suite shower. Unfortunately the bed was very bouncy, and the duvet too small, so we didn’t sleep particularly well.
3.9
Our room was on the top floor. The room was very tired, carpet stained, grout in bathroom was needing a good clean. Parking is free for residents but the car park is very tight. The staff were friendly. Pianist in the bar was very good.

£216.00 for two nights in a small room with tired furniture, grubby net curtains, sink in the bedroom not the bathroom, tired mattress, pointless WiFi signal and a mouldy shower cubicle. The extractor in the shower was so bad that the steam in there was suffocating too. Breakfast was shocking. Greasy food (lots of oil on the plate) and undercooked egg. I'd told them I'm gluten free on the booking, but when they gave me toast I asked if it was gluten free and it wasn't (not good!) I asked if they have brown sauce, the waitress said yes but never returned with any 😂 didn't even get a cup of tea or coffee and there was only myself to be seen to! Hardly rushed off their feet. The next morning I went to the dining room, but nobody came out to serve me, so I did without. It's a lot of money for such a tired and uncared for hotel 😞 staff were rather cold and rather disinterested. Not exactly a friendly bunch.

Great stay, everyone really friendly

Interesting old building, staff friendly and helpful. Facilities needed a bit of an upgrade, particularly the bathroom and the traffic noise was intrusive, so sleep not an option after 6am.

Very small room sink outside bathroom
Shower very very small

Great

Very good size room, clean, good bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities, excellent breakfast, friendly staff, reasonable price, perfect location

Fourteenth century Inn, but very well converted. Shame they aren't allowed to put in a lift! Excellent base for exploring the town, about 100yds from cathedral and High Street. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Will definitely be going back!

Cozy nice place👌
3.9
A great town centre hotel with parking and fantastic breakfast - just across the road from the magnificent Cathedral

I have no idea what this hotel is like because they canceled my reservation the day before I was due to arrive.

Had a one night stay at the White Hart. The room was large and comfortable.
The food was great. We had burgers that were excellent, freshly made with crunchy pit prop chips. We ate in the bar, but could have eaten in the restaurant.
Parking at the rear or the property was ideal.
Only a 5 minute walk into the town centre.
Well worth considering if staying in St Albans.

The hotel is 600 years old with all the querkiness that comes with an ancient property, uneven floors etc. The 4 poster bed was comfortable the towels fluffy the bathroom excelent. However the room was tired and could do with new carpet blinds and lampshades. However this would not stop us using it again
3.9
Nice staff, dated place but comfy.
Room was ice cold when I walked in and never really warmed up. The water took several minutes of running to get warm too.
Mould around the shower and floor. Probably due to saving on the heating bill.

The White Heart in St Albans is a step back in time.
The Tudor building has low ceilings and wonky floors, but that is part of the fun. We had a great time
3.9
Very old very tired hotel broken bed dirty dusty room can’t even give this a 1 star review. Should of stayed in the travel lodge up the road cheaper with air con and less road noise
3.9
Lovely old hotel, very quirky by todays standards. Place has real character and charm. Not ideal if you have mobility issues as most of the floors upstairs are not level due to age of building. Facilities in the room were good, tea and coffee, kettle, iron and ironing board present and working. Enjoyed our stay.
3.9
Lovely old hotel. Quaint is probably a good description. If you are into 5 star luxury not for you. Beautiful old building with wonderful staff
3.9
It's our 5th time at the hotel and we really love it. It's in amazing location, the staff is super friendly and the hotel itself beautiful. The bar is a little Jewell and we are definitely coming back.

Enjoyable overnight stay

In an amazing centuries-old coaching inn. It is quirky and without a straight edge in the whole of the building and full of character and history.
The uneven floors and narrow staircases are not easy for guests with mobility problems. The room and carpets could have done with a proper clean but a was fascinating place to stay.
3.9
It is unique and full of character and very honest. Will stay again.
3.9
The receptionist was amazing - so polite, welcoming and friendly. Had a great stay. Definitely stay again.

Had an issue parking my car on arrival, but managed to do so in the end. Room was small, power out of the shower was really weak, which was frustrating as needed a good shower especially as the room had no air con. Staffing level was inadequate, as breakfast in the morning was so slow, one girl on her own, and would not surprise me if she was also cooking the food! The food itself was just about edible, incapable of cooking fried eggs as they were served hard despite asking for runny eggs. A lot of people were frustrated and sympathy was with the young lady who was doing her best. When I checked out unbelievably I was checked out by the girl who was serving breakfast!!! The lady in the back office seemed incapable of working the payment card and called her to the reception. Neither I nor my friends in the group would consider staying in this hotel again.
3.9
Comfortable stay. Hotel in need of refurbishment.
Near good restaurants and shops and St Albans Abbey train station.
3.9
Very old building so you need to accept its limitations. Blackout curtains would definitely help rooms on the front.
3.9
The room was very basically furnished, tired and no thought of decoration. The service was respectful but insufficient staff.
3.9
Lovely old pub.
Unfortunately when booking in tha man wasn't very friendly didn't even say have a nice stay.
