Very friendly and clean

we spent 2 nights here, it was ok, the loo has a macerator so was quite noisy to flush, and smelt a bit damp in the bathroom, it was clean and towels provided, I was worried the shower unit was going to come off the wall, was very loose, the shower head is old, and sprays everywhere, the carpet could do with being replaced, street noise from people and traffic, there is a Chinese and Italian restaurant close by, and was very handy location for the university open day!
5.0
A fairly basic hotel in a nice location next to the Cathedral. Easy walk to the sea front, town centre and Gun Wharf Keys
It was perfect for what I was after. Good value too
4.0
Nice and clean. Maybe small but really clean.
3.0
Basic but functional for one night.

Quite noisy, I was in room I which was at the front of the building on the main road and the window didn’t seem too keep out much of the noise from traffic and passing people. It was also the room which although it had its own toilet and shower, backed in to the shared bathroom for the floor where someone decided to take a shower at 2.30am which was so noisy I could here through my earplugs. Duvet cover had stains on it and room was very worn and tired looking. Thank goodness I was literally just there to sleep!

The hotel is conveniently placed in Old Portsmouth. The receptionist was efficient and pleasant. The hotel itself is on the basic side of basic, but it is clean, the bed is sound and there is a kettle in the room. The shower room was remarkably compact.
Note that it is only a hotel - the main ground floor premises are a (separate) pizza parlour, Florio's. The "pub sign" shows Florio's name, not The Duke of Buckingham's.

We have had a wonderful stay at the Duke of Buckingham, stayed in the Buckingham cottage,it was clean and quiet, highly recommend abd we will definitely be staying again

We stayed at the 'cottage' part of the hotel (converted garage at the back of the main building) which was perfectly fine once we found it - we checked in after the reception closed and the directions were not 100% clear. We phoned the night guard who was very helpful.
The room was comfortable and clean enough, apart from some random cardboard left in the bin.
The shower was not particularly intuitive but perfectly fine once we got it to work.
There was a complicated- looking and clearly broken contraption to operate the windows. We managed to close them by hand.
Quite happy with the hotel in general, it was fine for a one night stay.

Great little place.

I was in for an overnight stay recently and it was perfect for what I needed.

Terrible room on a garage.

Very good place to stay for the money

5 mins from Gunwharf and the hot walls.
Great centre for Old Portsmouth and ferries

The staff here are absolutely wonderful. The young man on reception was incredibly helpful , professional and courteous.
However, the room was much smaller than we expected with barely space to move around and a larger than average person would struggle to use the shower.
Tea, coffee, milk etc was plentiful and much appreciated, thank you.
Spotlessly clean and centrally located, it was OK for someone for one night but I'm not sure I could stay longer

Stay was ok. Comfy bed and tea and coffee in room. View of top of Spinnaker tower from room . En-suite was tiny. Basin not big enough to fill kettle so had go use the cups. Toilet seat loose and funny smell in there. If you were a larger person you would never have fitted in there.
Fairly quiet as tucked away out the back until Monday morning got woken up by very late voices at 5:40 in the morning. Not sure if it was the cleaning staff or other guests.

Good location and fine accommodation for price point.

The room was in a small house called the cottage which was nice with all the facilities we needed. The lady who checked us in was friendly and helpful. The only downside was that we were near the front door, so could hear people coming in out during the evening. It's worth getting there earlier in the day if possibe as it is on street parking with a permit provided at check-in, and there we no spaces left closer than the other end of the street.

Ok Accomodation. Clean and comfortable.
Not en suite. One Bathroom for few rooms.
The ‘Duke of Buckingham’ name is deceiving. The Pub no longer exists.!
It’s a Pizzeria now. Side door to the rooms. So misleading if you thought you’d get a pint/food/breakfast available.

Couldn’t tell you what the hotel was like inside as we were put up in a converted garage or something in a back ally behind the restaurant next door to the hotel it was disgusting we booked a hotel room and got this don’t know how they get away with it health and safety would have a field day there

Very helpful reception staff

Great location and clean hotel. We stayed in the ground floor room of the cottage and unfortunately we're kept awake by every movement of the people above. Very creaky old building.

Clean and tidy room, quiet location and very helpful staff

The first room we were given was smelly. We went to reception and was given another room straight away that was clean and comfortable.
Lots of stairs
Not easy to see the frontage only a double black door with the name above. There is an Italian restaurant next door
6.0
Double room very cramped with small double pushed against wall, just a bit too small

Great location for historic dockyard

Ideally located for Southsea or Gunwharf. Friendly reception. Room was clean and tidy. Bed was comfy.
10.0
Nice for a night or two.
8.0
Access to reception, and the rest of the hotel was staffed at certain times which means that anyone can walk in off the street and potentially that felt unsafe.
The room was extremely small and I would not have wanted to stay more than one night.

There is no parking on site bur road parking and you need a parking permit at £5.00

It was an old building. But had all I needed for the stay. My only complaint is that it was a bit noisy in the room from the street noise. I had to keep checking the windows were closed cause it sounded like they were open but not much to be done about it. No elevator so be weary if you have issues with stairs and getting luggage up etc. luckily I had my son who did the heavy lifting. Good location and close to everything within walking distance. Parking available on the street which you pay for but convenient. Friendly staff.

Great location. Rooms clean and comfortable.

Arrived Friday abit early, we got our parking permit which is £5 per night, she told us check in was between 3pm and 10pm so we went off for a bit.
We come back at 3pm got our key and checked in no issues what so ever.
For £47 it is basic but very comfy!! , at the end of the day the room is just to sleep in and not spending our whole day in.
I would happily come back again.

Easy to get around Portsmouth and decent bed for the night

friendly but basic but more than adequate
great location

We had a room in the cottage behind the hotel itself and it was a lovely room. Bed was comfy and the room was spacious. It was nice to he within walking distance of so many sites.
It's by no fault of the hotel, but the people who stayed below us came home drunk at 1a and were really loud - keeping my husband and me up when we had a bit of an early morning.

Good

Quite cold on arrival, took until the morning to warm the room, noisy neighbour till after 12 but otherwise fine, solo traveller away for work & an excellent price so I would still stay again.
