2 Mins Walk from Edinburgh's Best Beach!
Il s'agit d'une magnifique maison de ville balnéaire traditionnelle et spacieuse, construite à une époque où les riches familles d'Édimbourg achetaient également une maison au bord de la mer afin de se rafraîchir lors des chaudes journées d'été.
Répartis sur 3 étages, plus une mezzanine, les larges escaliers sont une caractéristique, en particulier l'escalier en colimaçon entre le premier et le deuxième étage (remarque; ils sont un peu trop larges pour les portes d'escalier standard, donc peuvent ne pas être idéaux pour les jeunes enfants). Le salon est situé au premier étage, comme c'était la norme à l'époque, avec 3 grandes fenêtres qui laissent entrer la lumière. Du dernier étage, il y a des vues sur Arthur's Seat de l'avant et à travers le Firth of Forth jusqu'à Fife à l'arrière.
La maison a subi une rénovation complète à un niveau très élevé et dispose de 4 chambres, salon, salle à manger, nouvelle cuisine équipée, salle de bains familiale avec baignoire jacuzzi, WC à chaque étage, chauffage central au gaz, système d'eau chaude à haute pression, nouvelle cuisine équipée, chambre principale avec salle de bains, décoration fraîche partout, WiFi, télévision par câble, vidéo et DVD, fer et planche à repasser, sèche-cheveux, draps et serviettes. Tout ce dont vous avez besoin dans une maison indépendante près d'Édimbourg!

We had a wonderful week staying in the Portobello house and visiting the Fringe Festival on about 4 of the days. Another day we hiked up Arthur's Seat for an amazing 360° view of the area, and another day we took a Rabbie's guided tour to Fife and St. Andrew's. For the days in Edinburgh, it was an easy ride on the 26 or 19 bus from Portobello High Street, just a block from the house. The nearby Portobello beach is charming, with a couple of casual restaurants and a long paved promenade for walking, biking, or jogging. Patrick's house is lovely, and just as described. We enjoyed the back garden, right off the well-equipped kitchen, on a couple of the less chilly days, for cocktails and dinner. The living room is exquisite, with extraordinarily high ceilings and comfortable seating. Patrick was immediately responsive in the lead-up and during our stay, and the kind neighbor Roslyn serves as the helpful onsite contact, for check-in and for questions or helpful local recommendations. We loved staying in the quieter Portobello (versus a busier more central location) and would choose it again, along with Patrick's home, should we be lucky enough to return to Scotland.

We loved the stay. Very comfortable and updated. The location was wonderful. We loved the easy access to the beach, restaurants and stores. Only 15 minutes by car to the City Centre. We would definitely book again. Host was very responsive.

The location is perfect. The house is charming but was not a good fit for us only because my stepfather hurt his back before we checked in and there is no way to avoid stairs in the house. I did not anticipate the stairs being an issue until his injury but just FYI that the stairs are a prominent feature. There was also a disagreeable smell when we first got there which we finally figured out was coming from a Nespresso. Once we cleaned that out the smell was mostly gone. The house needs some TLC but we appreciate that it is old and charming. We loved the record player and most of all the location. There is a family owned bakery around one corner. I'm not kidding when I say my mother cried when we left because she loved the bakery so much. Around the other corner is the beach, which is lovely. Communication with the owner was easy and he responds very quickly and does a great job with fixes.

We couldn’t have asked for anything better. The kids had a ball. When I asked my five year old what was the best thing about his holiday, he said staying in the holiday home.

This place was amazing. It was everything the listing billed it as. Super clean and fully stocked. The entire group loved our stay. Close to the beach and just a short walk to the bus direct to Edinburgh’s main sites. Would definitely stay there again! Thank you!

We had a lovely stay in Portobello for a family getaway with 3 generations, as a special nostalgia trip for my Scots Mum with early dementia.
The property is barely a 2 minute walk from the beach, and very easy walk to the bus stop into Edinburgh City. Very clean and everything accommodated for. The living room was particularly gorgeous and superbly decorated. The jacuzzi bath was an added treat! The property owner had brilliant communication and was very helpful.

The house was exactly as described but the interior finishes exceeded our expectations. The rear east facing garden area was an added bonus.

This property is in an excellent location. A block from beach, a block from High st., and 3 miles from Edinburgh center. Easy access to bus system. Property was perfect for adult family with plenty of space. Host communicated very well. Highly recommend this location.

Lovely house, very clean and tidy. We were there at the weekend and it was sunny and warm, so it was very busy but still managed to park fairly close to the house. Comms and access arrangements were very good. Would certainly use again.

The house was absolutely perfect for our group, very clean, beautifully decorated and a really comfortable home from home. Close to some nice pubs, restaurants and lovely beach cafes. The bus stop into the city was close by but it’s also a lovely walk in via Holyrood park. The only downside is we didn’t stay long enough!

We've just returned from fantastic break in Portobello. I've holidayed in Edinburgh a number of times but this was the first time in Portobello and we would definitely return (and return to this great pad too!)
The area was trendy, cool with lots of great places to eat and drink, topped off with an amazing, beautiful beach. The beach, whilst dog-friendly , was perfectly clean and well maintained.
Patricks pad also provided a great place to venture a little further out and explore the wider edinburgh area, whilst also providing easy access to the city centre which we regularly visited.
The house itself is great, with beautiful fittings, comfy beds and a brilliant stocked kitchen with every gadget you can think of.
Finally, the owner himself was great to deal with, always prompt with replies for information and accommodating when it came to ad hoc requests.
Thoroughly enjoyable stay! Would definitely return.

The property is a wonderful home with all the facilities you need. Everything is comfortable and warm. It is in a lovely location with a 5 minute walk to a lovely beach and to the shops and restaurants, which are great for nice food and friendly service. Taxis into the centre of Edinburgh took less than 15 minutes. The area of portobello itself is fabulous for cafes/brunch and the beach.
The host and his neighbour were great! Communication was amazing and the host was so attentive to any needs and questions we had.

Never rented a property before. I researched, settled on Vrbo, and decided on this rental property. I am so glad I did. We had the absolute best time and experience. The entire process from booking, communications, instructions for checking in, etc, very easy. The rental was very clean, private, fully equipped, there's several stores near by, and everything is within walking distance. Safe neighborhoods, great places to eat at, shop at, folks were friendly and engaging, and we felt secured and very welcomed. The beach and ocean, literally a block or two away. It was absolutely perfect!! Dress warm, the wind was chilly for even us experienced Alaskans. We LOVED our entire trip, staying at this rental property for sure, and would absolutely rent here again. I can't imagine staying anywhere else.

My American cousins and I had a wonderful 3 nights in Edinburgh, finishing off our road trip round Scotland. The house suited our needs perfectly and Rosalyn was lovely and very helpful. The only slightly down side was a rowdy party by some neighbours which spilled out onto the street quite late, but that was quite beyond anyone's control. Leaving milk in the fridge for us was a thoughtful touch.

We had a great stay, the location of the property is absolutely brilliant, with both the gorgeous beach and the lovely high street of independent shops of Portobello right on the doorstep.
We did, however, feel that the quality of the accommodation and the level of the furniture and fixtures did not live up to the premium price tag.
Overall I would still recommend this as a good place to stay, and a few small changes and improvements (which I will provide separately to the host) will potentially make it great!

Our second stay. Ideal for the Festival and dog walks on the nearby beach. 30 mins into central Edinburgh by one of several bus routes from bus stops 3 minutes from the house. Lots of coffee places, restaurants and small shops nearby. 4 good size bedrooms. Two bathrooms and three toilets. Good size kitchen with everything needed to cook. Big lounge and separate dining room. Little bits of maintenance needed but nothing critical. Really recommended.
