Excellent location / price for stop over to lakes

Breakfast was very good. Bed comfy and shower was nice and powerful.

Hotel is ex Premier Lodge and is generally in poor condition, particularly the bathroom, which had holes on the wall and fittings missing.

Really good overnight stay on route to family. Four of us stayed in a family room and great value with everything we needed.

The staff were very helpful and pleasant, room very nice clean and tidy, only criticism food could have been looked after a bit better, ie sausages left to long under plate and were rock hard and steak on previous evening being a bit to chewy

We arrived and were welcomed by the staff. My wife is a celiac and the team were able to cater her with even meal and breakfast without hassle. Portion size, speed of service, quality of food and beer were all excellent. Good selections of gin. Ample parking. Great Value

Great food and excellent service

Have stayed at this hotel many times, as a premier inn and a Holts property. Our room was very tired and not as good as premier Inn rooms we have stayed in recently. In comparison: the bath room was in need of attention, the bath having chips in the enamel/plastic, the TV was about the size of computer screen and the room might have benefitted from a few extra power points. There was no info about WiFi login On the plus points the breakfast was good but there was no choice to stay without breakfast a lower price for the room.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay here! The property itself is unique and even though it looks a bit run down, that doesn’t take away the spirit and genuine care that the staff provides for it. We loved all of our meals at the pub and the traditional vibes it showcased. We had two littles with us and they especially loved being in the pub as well (the kids meal was a great value for what you get, and they had crayons and outdoor games for entertainment). Our room was very basic, but provided everything we needed for our 1 night stay. Easy parking and check out. We hope to visit again!

We used to be annual visitors to the "Cat and Lion" when it was a Premier Inn establishment. It's not the same now -much less welcoming and whilst cleanliness was not an issue the general state of decoration, fixtures etc. were very poor. You don't expect a wash basin to have no plug ! Nor should there be a missing bulb in a reading lamp ! These sort of omissions should not be present in the basic double room, let alone in the more expensive room we had booked.

First class country pub with lovely accommodation. My room was spacious and extremely comfortable with everything I needed. It was well decorated and very homely. I had a mobility access bathroom which was also fabulous. I didn’t eat dinner but had poached eggs at breakfast which were great. I would definitely stay here again.

Good size room, formerly a Premier Inn to give an idea of size and layout and now owned by Holt brewery. Quiet spot off A-road with lots of parking. Check-in at reception in pub building next-door. Pub building nicely decorated and furnished. Breakfast was exceptional, good choice and the Full English was the best we've had for ages! Also had dinner here, Thursday night is curry night with full menu also available. Food was good, hot and plenty. Pub/hotel staff very helpful and friendly. Bus stop just around corner serving local towns and Warrington. Rarely come to this area but would definitely stay again.

Exactly what we needed after a long flight from Seattle. Modest rooms but comfy beds. The food in the restaurant was incredibly delicious! Four of us ordered different items for dinner and breakfast and everything was superb. Staff was friendly and service was quick.

Not so great they need to separate the reception from the bar kept getting told off for not standing in the correct bit? And others too very annoying considering it was in the same room with a 12” post separating them! Hairs in my shower had to wash away and the dinner was very poor chicken was processed and like rubber though the menu looked good I left it! Breakfast was good but moody waitress was not!

Booked the deluxe room, however, things were not as clean as could be. The toilet was left with dirty markers in it. ( no loo brush to clean it ). There was soap foam on the wall in the shower ( from previous guests). The bed sheets had black marks on both the top sheet and the bottom. The pillow protector was dirty. These things were just careless cleaning.

Room was a little dark and outdated but spacious and clean with one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. Staff were helpful and pleasant. Nothing fundamentally wrong with anything at the Cat and Lion, it just left me with a sense of everything being cut down to a price. No staff in the hotel lobby but clear directions to let you know to check in at the pub. Food range was limited. I went for the fresh baked pizza. It was severely lacking in toppings and felt overpriced. The breakfast had tinned mushrooms, the thinnest slice of black pudding I have ever seen (less than one centimetre thick) which meant it was overcooked and tough as a biscuit. The rest of the dish was okay, reasonably cooked and tasty enough, just felt that someone was cutting corners. As I say, nothing fundamentally wrong, just a bit underwhelming. It was a striking contrast to my stay the following night at the Grantham Arms in Boroughbridge, which was superb and for a difference of £2 overall.

Frosty staff...Horrible stay I would avoid if you dont want aggression and attitude on your morning before the coffee is poured. Dont order in the wrong position at bar or ask any normal questions. Like where do i go to find my room or what is the wifi...all too much and met with agression and surlyness from the lead female on duty. Just horrible at every engagement. Frozen brake brother tray food. Bread not even cooked and frozen in middle. No redourse or response. Teasppon of scrambled egg on wet bread for breakfast. Embarrassing as invited business partner to stay as well. Stayed two nights, two mornings, second night we ordered in rather than eat here. Second breakfast male server, most excellent.
