A propos de ce maisonrental
You will love our bright and cozy beach house! Nestled in a quiet beach community with exclusive access to one of the most beautiful beaches on the North Fork. Ideal for families with small children, but equally enticing for people of all ages seeking to disconnect from the outside world.
The 2km walk along the beach to Simmons Point and back is guaranteed to remove all stress, any time of the year. Nature abounds, especially birds: swans, wild turkey, geese, mallards, hummingbirds, herons, robins, cardinals, sparrows, ospreys, and the occasional hawk, just to name a few.
It is a true white sand beach with very small waves. The bottom has very few shells to cut your feet on, and it slopes gently out to at least 50 yards. No rip or cross currents and no sharks to worry about. Good swimmers can be out there for hours without worries. Of course, any smaller children or weaker swimmers must be monitored closely at all times, especially near the mouth of the inlet. Kayaks are available under our deck for you to enjoy the calm waters of Flanders Bay and the inlet at the near end of the beach.
South Jamesport Beach is only 5 minutes by car. Here you will find more people but also a lot more sand and fun activities. Tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground, swimming lessons and sometimes sailing lessons as well (to be scheduled ahead of time). There is also a boat ramp, rest rooms and showers.
One mile due North as the crow flies (6 minutes by car) is our favorite winery: Jamesport Vineyards. Great people, great wine, great wood fired neapolitan-ish pizza, and a stunningly beautiful garden. Another 20+ beautiful wineries await you just minutes away.
Also in Jamesport and 7 minutes from our house, hides another gem. The Little Red Barn is a private 40-acre farm with baby farm animals, pony rides, a horse-riding school for all ages, and is just a perfect place to visit for the day, to host birthday parties or drop off your children for day camp. Just ask for Miss Kate — her mission is to share her love of animals with all those she meets!
Harbes Farms is another favorite. Their two nearest locations, 6 and 11 minutes away, are packed with late summer and fall attractions: farm stands with produce and other goodies, farm animals, hayrides, wine tastings, corn mazes, apple and pumpkin picking, and all kinds of games and entertainment. There are many other smaller farms and farm stands all around. You will likely find your own favorite.
If you don’t feel like cooking, the Lighthouse Deli (4 minutes away) makes awesome sandwiches and offers catering as well. Tony is the man in charge – he makes everyone feel like a local!
Only 3 minutes away is On the Docks, a relaxed restaurant and bars (one inside and one on the back patio/deck) with delicious food, very friendly service and stunning views of the inlet and marina. There are several other excellent restaurants within 10 minutes of the house.
For those who feel like venturing back into civilization, a 15-minute drive to the West will land you at Tanger Outlets where you will find every brand of every product you have ever seen. On the way there you will drive by every car dealership and every chain store you have ever seen.
Now back to nature… After walking back from the beach, you will be able to rinse off in the outdoor shower and relax on the deck or under the grapevines at Fort Sparrow, our refuge at the center of the backyard, named after the sparrows that make their nest there year after year. Next to it is a nice swing set to ensure hours of fun. And plenty of grass to run around, play ball and relive your childhood.
The place is beautiful even on rainy days. Nothing like sitting in the bright, airy living room with all the windows open during a warm summer rain shower. Perfect time for that rematch of Monopoly, or any of the board games you will find. Sorry, no cable or live TV. While Wi-Fi is set up, we encourage our guests to disconnect. Of course, you will still be able to watch movies on the flat screen mounted on the living room wall…
Our home has an open plan kitchen and dining room. The strategic spot at the kitchen sink gives you near panoramic views: a sliver of the bay to see if the water is flat or rough, the back yard, Fort Sparrow, the deck, the dining table, the front door, the front yard, and the street.
All three bedrooms are less than fifteen steps away from the kitchen. The master bedroom by the living room, with its own small half bathroom, a double bed, and a large safe to keep all your valuables secure while you are away having fun. The other two bedrooms are on the other side of the dining room, one with a double bed and the other with a big bunk bed, double at the bottom and twin on top. The full bathroom, with a bathtub, is on that same side of the house.
Nights are mostly quiet, except for frogs in the evenings and any neighbors enjoying a late night gathering on their back decks. Loud parties are rare in our neighborhood. At dawn, a whole choir of birds comes to life with their distinct and beautiful songs. Don’t worry, no roosters around.
We are convinced that you will love it here, and we will do our utmost to make sure that you do.
Please note that we have a 29-day minimum stay policy as mandated by local regulations.
