Location is good opposite the pier

The hotel is going through a major refurb with noise and mess everywhere. This was not mentioned when making the booking as would have never booked it if known. The front veranda was closed and breakfast was a joke in the corner of the makeshift reception. Room was very tired and daily room rate very expensive for living on a building site.

Location, location, location! And a Art Deco gem, of course. The building itself is gorgeous. It is the main reason we stayed hear - just because of that (even when we heard a lot of unpleasant feedback about the ongoing reconstruction and all the inconveniences)...

Reconstruction. I don't think it's fair to welcome guests when you're doing such a big renovation. The client pays money as for a normal hotel, but does not receive more than half of the services (there is no restaurant, constant noise, the elevator sometimes does not work, it is full of buzzing construction workers, dust, dirt - you could name and name...) Walking through the side door (emergency) with the construction workers was also not much fun

The hotel was under drastic renovation with reconstruction work taking place in the rooms near me on the same floor. It was therefore very noisy from 8:30am onwards and smelling of welding all day in my room. The elevator did not work and I had to carry my luggage up and down the stairs. Warm water supply was irregular. At time of reservation, the hotel warmed me that the lobby, lounge and restaurant were closed for restoration but not that guest rooms will also being totally remodeled next to my room and that the all hotel was a construction site. When I complained, the room rate was immediately reduced by half but it was still too expensive to stay on a construction site. The hotel should be totally closed during such important renovation work.

Location is simply the best! You are right at the center to reach great bars, restaurants, beach and Santa Monica Pier. Reception staff was really friendly and helpful, the complimentary snacks offered due to the restaurant being under renovation was a nice touch.

AC was just out of order during our stay. Although the hotel had a generic remark about the renovation works in the hotel, this was still unexpected and unfortunate to experience. The pricing did not really reflect the effect of the renovation works (noise and no AC). Overall however the location of the hotel just made up for all inconveniences.

The AC in my room wasn’t working ! All night long it was hot air … It was dirty as well. So bad breathing during my sleep. The mattress wasn’t comfortable and small. Not even a queen size. Drink from the minibar were hot and not even in the fridge… When à booked the room price was little more then 300$ when I paid for 1 night almost 500$ Definitely not worth the price !

The property was under construction, very dusty, dirty and loud. It was difficult to use the elevators because construction men were everywhere. They were all over our floor which resulted in a very loud stay. We would not have returned there if we had known construction was going on.

Location was perfect. We were able to walk to the outdoor mall, boardwalk, beach, restaurants, everything. Love the history and Old Hollywood aesthetic.

We chose this hotel over other less expensive chain hotels for the charm. We wanted something a little more special for our daughter's 12th birthday. If we had known they were doing renovations and we would be entering through the alley instead of the lobby, we probably wouldn't have gone with this hotel for this trip. Would love to come back when renovations are finished to get the full experience.

We got an upgrade to our room that gave us a little more space for 4 people. My college kid was able to stay up late to study while the rest of us slept. Loved being able to use the hotel bikes! Loved the front porch for drinks and meals!
