We had a lovely welcome at the lodge and shown to our room which had everything we needed for a lovely stay with a view to die for from the terrace overlooking the reserve. Rob our ranger was superb! Very knowledgeable, friendly, funny and excellent at spotting animals, plants and birds. We saw all the animals, so full credit to him. We were sorry we missed him before we left so hope he was forwarded our envelope. All the other staff were also excellent, food was great and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place and hope to come back soon.

Beautiful small lodge in an amazing game reserve. The staff were so wonderful and we saw an amazing amount of animals on the game drives. Could not have asked for a better experience

The lodges are set in a great location and all the staff were friendly and provided excellent service. The 2 safari drives per day were great with Seamus, our engaging and knowledgeable guide. Facilities and food and drink (free bar) were good. Lodges were clean and comfortable.

All game drives were excellent and our guide Rob was very knowledgable and friendly. All the staff were excellent. Although the food was generally good a little more choice would have been appreciated.

What an amazing place...so peaceful and the staff were fantastic. Big shout to Nico (our guide) and Lindor (waiter)...nothing was too much for them and always had a smile..
Nico has great knowledge of the game reserve and the animals and we managed to track down most of them. Lindor was working his socks off making us feel very welcome...
The accomodation was everything you would expect from a safari lodge....great views over the plains and the watering hole.

Everything was to a high standard of satisfaction. The accommodation and communal areas where always clean. We where nestled in a lovely area of the reserve and it really felt like being in an isolated part of Africa. The staff always had a smile and the food was out of this world. The reserve was beautiful and the animals where majestic. Our guide made our trip feel personal and we are very grateful to her.
I didn't like leaving.

beautiful location, friendly staff (rangers and more) room was always set up and ready upon returning from game drives. rangers couldn’t drive off the path to get us a little bit closer to animals like at other game reserves, they did otherwise an amazing job trying to find us animals and very knowledgeable. blankets and rain ponchos handed out with binoculars.
mini bar fridge in room was not stocked with drinks for our all inclusive just water, our shower didn’t drain, not a very big variety of drinks at the bar, only 4 Savanna Dry’s we finished. no bottle of water though given on the game drive. no sparkling wine or other cider selection. sundowner game drive didn’t have a good spread just one drink each (we were asked what we wanted) with 3 tina of snacks. the morning game drive had only a tin of tennis biscuits for a snack no rusks. the boma had a tiny fire we that burned our after dinner and we couldn’t enjoy or sit around after. our lookout decks patio furniture had no cushions. so just a bunch of small details that would have made big difference at the end. we have been to multiple lodges and safaris to compare the price/services offered.

Kind staff, amazing safari guide, wonderful nature, great food and super big rooms. loved the sense of community that had created for the guests. Really enjoyed our stay!
Rooms didn’t have wifi. However, there was free wifi in communal areas.

I've always been a bit sceptical of massive safari places where herds of tourists roll up to the designated spot for say lions, stay there for their allotted 15 minutes, before being replaced by another group, as they move on to the next type of animal...Thankfully Amakhala isn't like that - the number of vehicles in one area is limited, and you do have to actually hunt out the animals - so on one drive you might not actually find them (but will probably find something else), but it becomes good fun trying to spot them as you drive around. (the highlight probably being just sitting with one other jeep watching a family of cheetahs wander right past us, though as in fact did a male lion the next day. Magical!)
What I hadn't realised about Amakhala was that the individual collections of accommodation are run by independent companies (so Woodbury runs Woodbury Lodge and Woodbury Tented Village), so the service you get depends on which company is running it. Happy to say therefore that Woodbury Lodge is run very, very well - everyone is very friendly and helpful, the guides really do want you to see as many animals as possible, and they are great at making it enjoyable and informative. The lodges themselves are lovely too, as is the food - we loved the fact that everyone sat at one big table to eat, as it was great to share the day's experiences, although that's obviously not going to suit everyone.
So to sum up - stay at Woodbury Lodge if you want to mix with your fellow guests, eat well, sleep comfortably, see and learn about the animals and surroundings from enthusiastic people, and generally feel very welcome!

The highlight of our trip to South Africa where we spent 3 nights. The location on the hill is great, overlooking the valley and we could sight many animals just from the viewing deck. Kristen is great, she was our guide during game drives, really knowledgeable, kind and fun to be around and talk to. She made our experience unforgettable. :) The food and drinks were great, really tasty food and the staff was great and helpful with our requests as well! Definitely a place to be in Amakhala!

We stayed at Woodbury lodge for 2 nights. This was the highlight of our trip to South Africa. We had a funny game driver (Lenny), he showed us all the animals and knew a lot about them. We had a game drive in the morning and in the late afternoon. The Reserve is huge. We met some really nice people there and enjoyed the talks and meals and firecamps togheter even the manager and game driver joined us for breakfast and diner. The food and drinks were first class. There is a nice terrace with an amazing view and a pool for hanging out between the game drives. The staff was really helpful even with the spiders in our room 😊
We would recommend this lodge in Amakhala - it was worth the money. Thank you for everything!
Don't be scared of Spiders 😊

This hotel is entirely about the safari experience. When I was staying here we were actually the only people at the hotel which was great for the safari tours where our guide Rob brought us to find all sorts of amazing animals and was extremely knowledgeable. The food prepared for us was also very good.
The rooms are a little dated but that comes with the safari experience.

Rob is the best guide for games Drives you can get. It was breathtaking. The setting of the lodge is very nice with great views.
Rooms were not well maintained, some of the (rather little) staff neither friendly, nor professional. Aircon was broken, nobody cared, meaning 2 nights hard to sleep. Huge spiders in the room and scorpions in the bathroom. However, you should be prepared for that in a bush camp, so we do not complain about it.
Food is okay, not fancy, though. I am sure, things will improve when pandemic ends and more visitors come again.

Super amazing lodge with beautiful views over the wildpark. We could see wild animals from our patio. The game drive was so good. We saw 3 from the Big 5. Our guide Shamus was incredible - he was not only super knowledgable but also a lot of fun. He made our trip.

Our ranger Rob took such a good care of us and shared so much incredible information. We had such a great time with him and couldn't be more thankful! We will certainly come back again.

Fantastic location! Had a family room - lovely beds and bathroom. Three delicious meals included - chef was fantastic.
Two game drives daily and saw lots of animals - guides (Sibella and Brad) were fantastic and made each drive memorable.
Unfortunately had some rain but desperately needed and still managed to enjoy the game drives.
