Love the location! Just what we wanted for our vacation.

We loved the area and spending time in a little garden in the front of the house

This is a unique property and it was fun to see the moon and stars out of the dome windows on the ceiling at night.
Unfortunately, we had major difficulty getting into the unit. The extremely long door code wouldn't open the door on a few occasions, necessitating a call to VACASA.
The other really bad thing was the refrigerator. When we loaded it, the door kept coming open, so we pushed a chair in front of it to keep the door closed. However, that wasn't the only problem. The fridge just wasn't working. The ice cube trays were full of water that wouldn't freeze and all of our food in the fridge was ruined. The property manager came with bags of ice the next day, but by then it was too late! We're still waiting to hear if we are going to be compensated for this.
The other thing that we hadn't anticipated was all the stairs. It was difficult for us to unload the car, schlep everything upstairs, and then up another flight to the sleeping area. We're both in our 70's and this made it a bit difficult!

Beautiful house, we will definitely be making another trip. Great for walking around a quite little neighborhood!

Lovely area, comfortable home just around the corner from a cafe and seafood restaurant as well as cool beach views. Very fun stay, be warned there is not much in the way of privacy or sound isolation so probably best for families or friends that are comfortable with each other. Only missing a star because the washing machine didn’t work and there were some used baking trays that were left in the oven from the previous stay. Otherwise fantastic! Would recommend!

Unique house in a great location near Devil's Punch bowl and two lovely beaches. Short walk to morning coffee shop. Not far to Depoe Bay, Newport, and Lincoln City. House is a little cool in winter, but plenty of blankets provided. Would recommend.

This would be a great spot for surfers or hikers who just need a place to refuel between adventures. We were hoping for a more warm, cozy, comfortable spot to let down and rest before heading back to the city. Kitchen has pots/pans/dishwater/utensils, but bring everything else (foil, spices, etc.)

I have wanted to stay in a dome almost my entire life, and I finally got to last weekend! It is sooooo cool! And the location is fantastic--just a few quick minutes to the beach and the Flying Dutchman Winery. We will be back for sure.

This stay was a mixed bag.
Pros
• House is unique and fun, with amazing lighting
• Great location. Walking distance to 2 beautiful beaches, Mo’s, Cliffside Sweets coffee shop
• Outdoor shower is very cool
• Yard is a magical garden
Cons
• Well, the house had a smoke alarm in a room that is locked to guests and it was chirping every 40 seconds for the entire stay. It was Thanksgiving and it was difficult to get a response from Vacasa mgt. We finally heard back after 3 nights with an explanation, and they offered a discounted rate. The owners were unavailable to provide access to the room, so the chirping never stopped. Not the serene, quiet stay we expected.
• House is probably awesome in the summer, but really cold in winter. Only one of the multiple old baseboard heaters worked. Separate thermostats for each baseboard and only one turned on. Good thing we brought extra blankets!
• About half of the outlets in the kitchen do not work. Lots of moving coffee makers, toasters, etc., around.
• A previous guest left a note on the whiteboard that said there were no coffee filters and that hadn’t been taken care of when we arrived. We did end up shopping for some basics, like salt, that most rentals have.
Appreciated the discount, but the alarm and no way to fix it was a drawback.

The dome would be a cool summer destination, just a short walk from devil's punchbowl, but it was cold in the winter, even with the heat on. We had the power go out while we were there due to a wind storm and weren't able to get ahold of the owners. There was also dog hair all over one of the blankets.

We loved the location and the home was very bright and open. The home itself needs some love. Ceiling fan is broken and needed for circulation as there is no air conditioning and the windows make the home very hot in the sun. Window sills and walls show lots of wear and aren’t very clean. Kitchen was stocked with most tools, there is no foil or Saran or anything like that though so make sure you bring your own. Beds were comfortable. We enjoyed our stay overall as we are huge fans of otter rock.

We had a nice long weekend at the Surf Dome House. It was worth trying it out. The location was great.

We enjoyed our stay, loved the location. Kitchen had a lot though was missing a few of the basic implements. Never heard back from property manager about oven not working. Fortunately we werent depending on it. Modest furnishings but beds were comfortable and very open, bright, spacious place to hang out. We will be back!!! With surf boards next time.

You read that right. Our family and friends have stayed here for the past three consecutive years. Each stay was found clean, safe, and ready to go for us. This is a big part of why we come back every year. This home serves as the perfect home base - and I do mean that like a moon base because the 8-year-old spirit in me constantly pretends I'm in a lunar module when I'm here. When you're here you really consider why your own home doesn't come with huge triangle windows which cast the perfect light during the day or provide you with your own private planetarium at night. And of course, the beach. The beach makes any little detail of your stay here null and void against the value of being this close to the beach. A beach that will be an extension of your living room where you can go for runs or do yoga (did both!), where you can sit and read a new favorite book, or where you can watch what is a billion times better than any streaming show - the waves.

The surf dome is a very unique house in an awesome location! It is well kept. Easy to check in. And just steps away from some of the most amazing beach attractions. Our family absolutely LOVES Otter Rock. The outdoor shower was so great to have with little kids - it gets nice and warm. I did not anticipate that our nine month old would be walking already so we had to block the stairs with our cooler and some chairs. But we have no complaints! It was very memorable! Thank you for having us!

The structure was pretty cool and the location was awesome! It gets roasting hot in the afternoon if the windows are closed. It’s cozy…8 people would be a bit much but it was nice.

This house was wonderfully clean. We had everything we needed at the house. And the bathtub? Let's just say there were a few 2 hour baths taken. Ahhhhh

Otter Rock
Loved this house. It was so much fun staying here! Many amenities were perfect. The WiFi, and thus the TV, however, left much to be desired. We figured out the correct password, however, the signal was so weak that the tv was useless.

Perfect spot
We loved the location of the Surf Dome. Walking distance to Devils Punchbowl and Mo’s and a great ice cream/coffee shop. Close walk to the beach. Super clean. Had everything we needed. The only issue was we couldn’t get Netflix to work. We’d love to stay here again!

bright, relaxing space close to the beach
We loved staying here! The space was sunny and warm, on a tiny quiet unpaved street with friendly neighbors. Well stocked kitchen, excellent bathtub and comfortable beds. A few minutes walk from two very different types of beach- a long sandy surf beach on one side, tide pools on the other. (Note- both beaches require going down stairs to access.)
We would definitely come back!

SO NICE!!
We enjoyed every single thing about the dome home. It’s light, airy and spacious. It is outfitted with all you’ll need for your stay, other than food & drink. The grounds are lush and almost Hawaii like. The ocean and shore are especially attractive at Otter Rock. If you’re lucky, one if your days here the waves will kick up and boom into the shoreline spraying a mile into the air. Being here in late Feb, you’ll feel like you’re just about the only visitors in Otter Rock. I understand, from locals, that is not the case in summer at all.
The only thing missing that I’d really enjoy is an outdoor fire pit. My son just picked up an unusual. pre made one for his lake house, that he claims is just the greatest. If you’re interested in doing that also, I can put you in touch w him.

It was a treat to get to stay here! We loved the windows and the over all vibe of such a unique place. The kitchen was surprisingly well stocked with nice pots, pans, and even gadgets- 2 crock pots! We definitely would like to stay again. It is also pet friendly but you would never know because it is in nice shape :)

My pup and I enjoyed being within walking distance of the beach, tide pools, and wooded trails. The kitchen had every tool we needed to prepare meals. It does get warm and bright, so bring a fan and sleep mask!

Great base for a surf vacation
My husband and I had a great time at the surf dome. We loved the walk to the beach and the outdoor shower. We would definitely rent this place again. It really does get hot in the dome if it’s sunny outside. They had a few fans. You may want to bring an extra fan or some extension cords to make it easier to get circulation where you need it.

We blew into Otter Rock just in time to watch the sunset over the Devil's Punch Bowl. It was quite windy and we were chilled as we opened the door to the Surf Dome--our home for the week. It was welcoming and warm. We set up in the well-equipped kitchen, and my kids chose their beds. Husband and I took the loft overlooking the living room, 2 kids slept in the bunk room, and one took the couch in the living room, which expands into a double bed (with a bit of effort--just check that the rug is lined up and you're golden.) This worked for our family of 3 big boys and us. If you were 8 adults, prepare to get super cozy, aka, sharing beds.
A note on the kitchen. Cooks...the knives are sharp! You'll also find plenty of plates, bowls, silverware, pans, and measuring cups.
As soon as I saw the outdoor shower, I decided that all my showers would be outside. The water was deliciously warm and I loved looking up at the sky and greenery while I showered. Although the house is in a neighborhood, the trees and bushes in the backyard make it private and secluded. FYI...the tub upstairs is also lovely and you can look out the skylights there too. We kept our baths to a minimum because Oregon was in a drought while we were there.
I was so happy to find the compost! Normally I bring a shovel on family vacations to bury my vegetable/fruit waste in the woods. Here it's simple.
We were encouraged by locals to try surfing..."Why not?" we thought. Although I had lived in Newport in my youth, I had never tried surfing. My kids, my husband and I rented boards and wetsuits nearby and surfed for the first time in our lives at Otter Rock beach--a beautiful spot with gentle waves perfect for beginners. We even saw a whale. Then, the surfboard rack and outdoor shower were perfect.
The bed was comfortable and we slept well. We used the kitchen to cook up our own fresh seafood (from Local Ocean--highly recommended as a place to buy seafood either at their counter or in the restaurant). We enjoyed foraging on the property for the ripe blackberries, the salal berries, the huckleberries, and even some ripe cherries from the tree in the yard. A hummingbird often appeared at the Himalayan honeysuckle bush. (BTW, we were there in the 2nd week of August. Also, make sure you know exactly what you're eating before trying these things!)
This house is about a 10 minute walk from the beach on one side, and from the marine gardens on the other--this is where you can see tide pools at low tide and walk into the Devil's Punch Bowl...if you dare! Take care please, always check tide tables for low tide and never turn your back on the ocean.
We enjoyed mornings with a cup of tea on the deck...a great place for journaling, conversation or sketching.
We enjoyed our walks on the beach in the morning, the afternoon, and after dark in the spooky fog. If you're on the beach at night a phone flashlight is recommended.
We finished off our stay with an early morning beach walk before we headed back to Portland to fly out.
The house was bright and open, the locals are friendly and relaxed. It's a great place to make memories and to try something new. We hope to return here next year.
