Résumé des avis
Le séjour au Castello di Volognano a été incroyable avec un traitement royal, un charme historique et des vues à couper le souffle. Hautement recommandé pour une expérience heureuse!

Had a wonderful stay at this well-equipped home away from home. It was cool to stay in a castle! Iacopo took great care of us - helping us with things we needed before we even go there. The place is close to many good restaurants and we drove to Chianti and Siena for a quick visit. The pool was a bonus especially sine we were there in August. I can imagine how wonderful this would be as a wedding or anniversary venue.

I just returned from a 2 week trip to Italy, in which my group of 14 stayed in four different regions and vacation rentals. Of all the places we stayed, hands down our group liked our stay at Castello Volognano the best! The property is magnificent, the views are incredible, and the pool was so refreshing on the hot August days we spent there. Above all, Iacopo, the gentleman who manages the property, made us feel like royalty during our stay. No request was to big. He arranged everything with me prior to our stay: from transfers, to shopping lists, to dinners with a chef at the castle. Everything here went seamlessly. No one in my group of 14 wanted to leave! If you are visiting Tuscany or the Florence area, you must stay at Castello Volognano. During your stay, I highly recommend doing the wine tasting with lunch, and having at least a few means catered by a chef overlooking the beautiful Tuscan countryside. And I can't forget, the olive oil they make is amazing as well. Thank you Castello Volognano for making our first trip to Italy so memorable!

We loved our stay- how often can you spend a week in a 1000 year old castle in the stunning hills of Tuscany?? It was a dream trip- trip of a lifetime!!

I traveled with a group of 10 close friends for a 2 week trek across Italy. The Castello di Volognano was the highlight of our trip and my only regret is that we didnt stay here longer. The castle is on the top of one of many rolling hills of Tuscany and the views could not be better. The owner, Patrizia, was patient and accommodating and was extremely helpful when booking our stay despite me being difficult and changing the dates multiple times. The property manager Iacopo was outstanding and unbelievably helpful. His wine tour was wonderful and had a more homey, friendly feel than other commercial wineries that we had toured before. He also helped arrange a private dinner cooked by a personal chef and it was delicious. A surprise bonus that I didnt see mentioned in the listing was a fleet of 20 turtles that happily live in the castle garden. The only thing missing was a castle cat (or three)!
We would not hesitate to come back to Volognano. If you are looking for a once in a lifetime, perfect vacation in a castle, stop looking and book this now!

Beautiful property out in the Tuscan hills! Property manager was amazing, attending to all our needs! Transfers in and out of town, property wine tour/lunch, chef dinner and welcome fridge stock, absolutely amazing!!

How would I summarize our experience at Castello di Volognano? 10 out of 10.
The castle is more than a place to sleep during your travels. It is a destination in and of itself. For just five days, my family and I felt like Italian dignitaries.
We received a royal greeting from Iacopo, the castle's concierge. Perfecting the art of being invisible yet always available, he graciously attended to our every need.
We arrived and were greeted with a beautiful glass of Chianti as we listened to Iacopo give an interesting talk about the castle's wine and olive oil production. We enjoyed charcuterie, a tasting of the vineyards' wines, and a light dinner, which included the best lasagna I have ever tasted.
Inside the castle, you are immersed in history, art, and architecture like no other. You can't help but feel that you've transported back in time but forward in social status.
The backyard will be your gathering place for morning coffee and late-afternoon cocktails. Being on the top of the hill, your views of the Tuscan countryside are as magnificent as the sounds and scents wafting through the cooling breeze.
Every single one of my family loved the castle. Ours was a busy trip. Our only regret was not booking one more night just to relax and enjoy our surroundings. We will return as soon as we can! It was a blissful experience, and I highly recommend it.

The description does not do it justice. The We plan to go back. Iacopo is a gem. He was so responsive. He helped prepare our meal as part of our cooking class, and he gave a great tour of the winery. Be sure to get up and visit the church at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. It is worth it.

We were a group of 5 adult couples. Not all had private bathroom/shower (see their description). Still, this is a huge (!) place, with plenty of big living/dining/game rooms. The kitchen is small-ish but works. The building/castle is truly amazing, you will be impressed, and the grounds are beautiful.
We were less impressed with housekeeping (just daily bed making, but no new linens all week, and fresh towels only upon request even if they were placed on the floor). Most of us weren't happy with the mattresses. A pre-stocked refridgerator for our late-pm arrival would have been nice (no such option) - that would be super helpful when arriving from long distance and have no idea where to buy what.
Now, the castle is an authentic 1000 year-old building, and while all that is really special and impressive, don't expect window screens (big bugs find their way into the bedrooms), no modern plumbing, and showers and drains are so-so. So that's the trade-off.
The location is amazing, quiet, hill-top with incredible Tuscan views - something you'll write home about! You feel like a king up there. There's a groundskeeper who's very helpful with where to go, what to see, etc.
The nearest town is ~15 min by car, with a train-station (to get into Florence), a really big grocery store, plenty of small restaurents, etc. Really everything you need is there.
Perhaps except for the bedrooms' non-biting bugs and the mattress quality, this is a spectacular place you'll not forget.

Fantastic experience! Iacopa took great care of us and made sure we had everything we needed. Wonderful setting and a great experience. Sitting outside either at the pool or at the tables was our favorite way to relax. We enjoyed their locally produced wine as well. Highly recommend.

This place is beyond words and the people that run it are even better. They really care about your happiness. The chef that can come in and cook to the daily housekeeping services are beyond amazing. And you cannot forget Jacapo (not correct spelling) he is everything you can ask for in a property manager. His wine tour was nothing short of amazing and the history given was special. I would rebook this place in an instant. Thank you for everything!!!!

This is a place you learn to love. From the very beginning we begin to notice all the special things about it. Our first dinner was under the trees. The view of the rolling vineyards and olive trees made you want to cry. At 7:00 we heard our church bells and it gave us chills! The pool and grounds were amazing and beautiful. The kitchen had everything needed for meals. There were linens, dishes, etc for all meals. The “welcome fridge” was wonderful! We cannot say enough about this place. Patricia and Edwardo were wonderful hosts. Will definitely return!

We had an absolutely amazing time at the castle! We were a group of ten staying a week for my wife's 40th birthday and everything was wonderful. The pictures really don't show you how huge the shared spaces are, there was plenty of room for people to spread out and enjoy themselves, but also great places to be cozy together. We had both the cooking class and the private chef for one night and highly recommend both. I also suggest taking the winery tour and wine tasting option, it's great!

We loved the castle. The grounds are stunning. The kitchen is well-supplied. We asked them to arrange a cooking class and dinner, that was so much fun. It's a beautiful base to use for day trips, and it's also fun to hang out there.

Our stay at the Castle was fabulous! The setting is like a Tuscan dream, high on a hill with olive groves, vineyards and rustic villas all throughout the valley. The weather was perfect (mid 70’s) and the sunsets were gorgeous each night. Our hosts were very helpful and gracious and the staff were warm, friendly and very knowledgeable. We did a cooking class (highly recommended), had a chef prepare several meals and a driver available to take us to sites and wineries. Highly recommended place to stay.

Castello di Volognano is a gorgeous castle with stunning views and enough room for many families to have their own private space. The views from all directions are beautiful and you can truly immerse yourself if the beauty of Tuscany while sitting outside. There is an outdoor ping pong table and an indoor billiards table which are great additions. The train station is close which allows you to travel to Florence in under 30 minutes. There are plenty of fans in the bedrooms which help with the summer heat but it would have been wonderful if there had been screens on the upstairs windows to let in the cool night air without also letting in the many mosquitoes. There are plenty of beds which were the only issue we had with our entire stay. They were very firm and truly uncomfortable, as were the pillows. They were the only un-luxurious part of this very luxurious castle. But despite the uncomfortable beds, our stay was magnificent. We did the wine tour with Iacopo who is generous and kind and happy to answer all your questions. We relaxed by the beautiful pool and enjoyed our time at Castello di Volognano!

Such an amazing experience at Castello di Volognano! The castle was perfect for four couples with plenty of space to relax. The location is very convenient with a nearby town providing everything you need and the views of the rolling hills of Tuscany were stunning. The pool was also great and the service by the hosts made our stay even more memorable. Can’t wait to come back!

Beyond our expectations
Yes, it is a real castle. Everything is updated; the bathrooms, bedrooms, living spaces and kitchen. Plenty of room to spread out. The views of Tuscany were breathtaking. The swimming pool was an added bonus. Our service was great. Yacapo and Patrizia were wonderful to work with. In 20 minutes you can be in Florence.

Fantastic Tuscany Holiday
All I can say is wow. The property was amazing - we've stayed in some pretty amazing properties, this one was by far the best! The views were fantastic, the castle was spectacular, and a pool!! Our host Iacopo made our stay so very special, his recommendations were fantastic, always helpful and just overall a great person - we miss him! And the wine was some of the best we had in Italy! I highly recommend the wine tour with the "light" lunch (we couldn't finish it all). Overall by far the best holiday we have ever had - if you're thinking about staying in Tuscany, you need to do it here!

Magnificent Get Away to a Castle
As we cornered a bend in the road outside a small town in Italy, we could see our castle await us on the hillside. Surrounded by olive and grape vineyards, like a picture out of a fairy tale. We pulled into the narrow road leading to the entrance and all of our ladies were saying "wow". We were greeted warmly, and shown a tour of our home for the week. There were six ladies all long time friends, and there was more than enough space for us all to have time together, alone, pool side, terrace side, each had our own bedroom, a few shared a full bath. We enjoyed cooking several nights and the kitchen had everything we could want. The arrival host fridge (as they call it) had enough food for days. They also have a family room that hosts their own whites, red, and chianti wines which have the price so we enjoyed almost all of that too! The olive oil produced by the family is lovely and we cooked with that and ate with snacks. Taking a wine tasting tour with a light snack was the most incredible experience as it is lead by the wine master, so you learn so much and can feel the passion that goes into making the wines. I would love to bring my family and children back sometime. They hosts are lovely, their entire team from Laura, Claudia, and Gloriana were so helpful to us. This home more than exceeded our expectations. Also, in Pontesievve you can take a 17 minutes train to the station in Florence, so easy to go into the City to sight see and return late.

Just perfect
The communication with the castle was always quick. Everything was perfect. We used the welcome fridge when we arrived - plenty of food for 12 with left overs for snacking. The breakfast was massive and enough for everyone. They also arranged breakfast to go for our group since everyone was leaving at different times on the day of check out. The location is only 10 minutes from Pontassieve which had 3 grocery stores and dining. Also if you get there early enough - free parking at train station! It was 14 Euros round trip on train to Florence SMN only took 25-30 minutes on train. 2 of our group did the wine tour and thought it was fabulous! They said it was the best part of their stay. It was nice to be out of the city and in the "country". It was quiet. There were fans in everyroom. They did have mosquito plug ins but you might want to bring your own for nights in the garden. The pool wasn't heated but the cold water felt great on your feet after walking all day. All in all, the whole group was super pleased with everything!!

Wonderful stay at a wonderful castle!
Over the course of a week, my American and Italian family (14 people in total!) met at Castle Volognano. It is truly a magical place. The owners and staff were lovely - thank you Alberto, Patrizia, Claudia and Jacopo! It is also worth mentioning that the daily cleaning service is very helpful and we highly suggest getting the refrigerator stocked for your arrival as well as doing one buffet dinner. The grounds and views are stunning and there is even a family of turtles living in the gardens. Yes, turtles! What's not to love? We also recommend taking a tour of the winery. Jacopo was outstanding and hilarious. We hope to return someday.

Beautiful!
First impression was amazing, it truely is a castle! We are a family of 14 adults ranging ages 79 to 24, everyone loved it! The one draw back is the accommodations for the 2 extra people, there are only 6 bedrooms, so they put 2 cots in an area off the hall away upstairs, there is not a door and not much air circulation. The entire property was immaculately maintained. Iacopo was a pleasure to deal with during our stay. We did the tour of the vineyard with him and a tasting as well, very enjoyable! We cooked in the well appointed kitchen. On our last night we had the villa arrange for a chef to prepare our last dinner, Magnifico!!!! Oh, last but certainly not least, the wine and the olive oil and the wine are fabulouso! Thank you so much to Iacopo for being so helpful during our stay! We wish we could have stayed longer.

Amazing property and breathtaking. Perfect for a family gather.
This was the perfect experience for my family. We had an amazing, but really amazing five days. The staff was great and location was perfect. Castle is really well kept. Rooms are spacious and well distributed. The pool is perfect and living room, bedrooms kitchen are well furnished. The owner was great in helping us create experiences at the castle (dinners, cooking classes, etc.). Overall my best experience with HomeAway.

Perfect setting for our weekend away
We had a wonderful stay in Volognano Castle over a long weekend in July. There was more than plenty of room for the 10 of us to all hang out either by the pool, in one of the many beautifully decorated rooms, or (our favourite) sat at the table outside watching the sun set over the rolling hills.
The castle is located fairly close to a big Coop which was handy in stocking up on delicious fresh food which was later cooked in the well stocked kitchen.
I would highly recommend Volognano to anyone who wants to really enjoy the Tuscan countryside in style!
