Beautiful, Private, 3 BR Oceanfront Cottage on Dyer Bay

6 of us spent 7 days at Sunset Point. It was the perfect accommodation for four adults and two teens. We felt so at home here. The house was equipped with everything we needed and more. The kids enjoyed putting together one of the many puzzles. We all enjoyed the beautiful view of the bay, sitting on and exploring on the rocks and watching the changing tides. We even watched a seal fish in the bay, enjoyed watching a bald eagle and two hummingbirds. This property is perfectly located between Bar Harbor/ Acadia and other points of interest to the east. One of our favorites experiences at the house was having a campfire on the rocks.

Wow! It was amazing! Everything we could ask for. The best part was bonfires on the beach and proximity to Schoodic Penninsula!

Out of the way relaxing location that was perfect for us. We spent time watching and listening to nature. Did local shopping and hiking.

This home was so inviting! Felt welcomed from the minute we walked in. The owners have thought of everything that you could need for a perfect Maine vacation. The home was clean, very private. Numerous seating areas around the home to enjoy the bay and watch the lobster boats. Close enough to all the coastal attractions. Owner very quick to respond to questions. Would highly recommend!

The property was very cute and rustic located in the woods right on the bay with your own private deck and access to the water. Upon arrival we noticed the bedrooms had cobwebs on the ceiling with spiders, even saw some go into floorboard cracks and dust covering dressers. We must have killed over 6 spiders the first night (only in the bathrooms & bedrooms). The kitchen & eating area were very clean. I took pictures & contacted the owner right away (11pm) full expecting we may not get a response until morning & he responded shortly after which I appreciated. However, the reply from the owner was not what I was hoping for, stating that this has never been an issue and would let the cleaning crew know. I guess I was hoping for more of an immediate action such as having the cleaning crew come the next day to clean & spray for peace of mind. I did not hear from the owner after that. There was a review from a few days before us with no issues so maybe we just looked closer than most. We shouldn't have to do this type of cleaning when arriving on vacation thus the cleaning fee. We were traveling since 3 am so it wasn't the best way to enter our vacation. We stay near a National Park every year in rustic settings so we aren't new to this type of setting. To sum it up, I do think this place and owner have all good intentions but I do believe the bedrooms need a deep clean and rooms be sprayed.
+private property, direct access to bay, deck seating, firepit by water, board games...

We got away for a short holiday weekend and fell in love with this property. Everything was as they stated and the firepit on the rocks was as wonderful as we expected. Thank you for sharing your property with us!

We stayed at Sunrise to be far from but still close enough to Acadia for day trips. The cottage exceeded our expectations. It was a great place to come back and relax at. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the rocks and tide pools (us too). The house is very well stocked. Besides bringing our own food we had no reason to go to the store for anything. Bob was such a help prior to our trip with sending us helpful tips. If we are ever back in Maine (kids keep asking when we get to go back!) we will definitely try and stay here again!

This was our first VRBO so we were a little unsure of what to expect. As soon as we walked in it really did feel like walking into a friend’s home. It was incredibly welcoming. The view from the backyard is majestic and this location is perfect to explore various points in Maine. We went up to Eastport and down to Bar Harbor finding fun things to do along the way.

We absolutely loved everything about this home. The property is beautifully situated on the bay with lovely seating areas to overlook the lobster boats, sea life and sunsets. The firepit is a must for quiet, magical evenings. Located away from the Bar Harbor crowds near the Schoodic side of Acadia, but close enough to spend a day or two on Mount Desert Island. The home is a quaint and complete cottage, with everything you could possibly need. It's evident that Bob and his family have put a lot of love into this home over the years, and I'm so happy that we could enjoy it for a week. We hope to be back!

Lovely & Quiet
We did not spend a lot of time at the property, as we were out most days hiking, kayaking and exploring, but it was exactly what we needed - a comfortable, clean and quiet cottage on the ocean to begin and end our day. Never turned on the television a single time; just enjoyed nature.

Awesome get away!
My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing week in the cabin and thoroughly enjoyed the scenery. We saw deer in the yard the first morning we were there and loved the peaceful location. The cabin had everything you could possibly want, including a well-stocked kitchen with many staples. The owner was very accessible and was incredibly helpful in answering questions. We loved the cabin and plan to return!

Amazing!
The location of this property is fabulous! The views are stunning, the house itself is clean and homey. The location?? The location is perfect! Far enough away from Bar Harbor and Acadia that is peaceful and non touristy, yet close enough to be able to do those places and come back to a relaxing atmosphere! We loved it there

Perfect 25th anniversary hideaway during this COVID year!
My husband and I were supposed to go to Europe this Fall, but COVID-19 changed many plans this year. With Maine being on the bucket list, we thought that would be a nice second option but weren't quite as excited. But it was perfect. Staying at this cottage was absolutely wonderful. It was so cozy and nestled right on the water. I saw the mated pair of bald eagles staring at us sitting on a rock just to the left of the property in the water! I saw one fly into its nest while down on the rocks by the water but never expected to get to see them both. A dolphin actually swam by one day. A family of deer was there to greet us as we drove toward the house each evening. It was like being in a Disney movie. Just didn't get to see a moose. :) The leaves were brilliant. My husband and I loved sitting in the living room - very cozy with its comfy chairs and big windows. And the kitchen was very well appointed. I can't recommend staying here enough!

Amazing
This property was perfect in every way! Great location, extremely quiet but very close to all attractions nearby. The beds were comfortable, the house was very clean, the cabin has recently been rebuilt so everything was new. The kitchen was great and well stocked with any utensils and dishes a cook could want. The views are absolutely to die for. The fire ring next to the ocean had to be my favorite part, and stargazing at night. Bob was a great host, very responsive and helpful. Would absolutely stay again

Maine get away
We enjoyed our stay at this property in Steuben. Looking out and seeing Dyer Bay each day was wonderful and relaxing. The owner provides so much info on things to do that was so helpful. We hiked and kayaked and enjoyed Quoddy Head in Lubec and Schoodic Point. You have everything needed to enjoy fresh lobster. The owner provides a well supplied cottage so that you enjoy this property as much as they do.

Exactly what we needed!
Our stay at this cottage was absolutely idyllic. Bob was an amazing host and communicated beforehand with very helpful information, especially during covid. When we arrived, we found a huge binder with information on hikes, day trips, restaurants, where to buy and how to cook lobster...complete with photos and maps. It was so easy to plan each of our days there. We were able to visit both parts of Acadia and also several smaller parks and hikes. The cottage itself has many lovely details and the thought put into everything encourages travelers to feel completely at xhome. You can smell the pine trees and the salt water, and look out to the water from everywhere except the bedrooms. We spent our evenings down on the rocks where the kids climbed and played in tide pools. We made several fires and watched the stars and the moon. During these stressful times, it was the perfect getaway for our family! We are so grateful to Bob and his family for all the effort they put into the cabin and into hosting.

Gorgeous Place - even better than the pictures. Very thoughtful Hosts!!
We had an amazing time up at this waterfront, Maine property - only 15 min away from the Schoodic Acadia park and ~70min from the main Acadia parks. What really blew us away, however, was how thoughtful Bob was as a host -- there was a huge visitor's guide waiting on the dinner table and the house was stocked with everything you could want (grill, lobster pot, all the utensils, etc.). Amazing experience -- would 100% do it again.

As expected.
An outstanding time in a nice cottage in Maine. Just a little difficult to find, but once there, it is beautiful.

Wonderful seaside home
Many thanks to Bob for opening his lovely seaside home to us. We loved every detail, inside and out! We enjoyed watching the lobster boats, made hummingbird nectar and watched the hummingbirds fight. We have been traveling to Maine yearly for over a decade and this is, by far, the best experience we have had. We have already booked for next Year!

Great place to visit!
Beautiful, well appointed cabin; great views;, comfortable beds and furniture, really great kitchen. All the quietness and access to the beautiful outdoors needed for a restful, relaxing vacation.
Unfortunately our vacation was cut short due to a medical emergency. Quick 911 response, excellent regional hospital for quick stablzation and medivac to Portland. Wonderful, helpful, kind people all around to help.

Wonderful restful stay
The house is a perfect vacation cabin just outside but close to the really touristy area of coastal Maine. Gorgeous view of the harbor from the front porch. Had coffee on the rocks every morning. So peaceful and beautiful, just like the pictures. There was lots of information about places to go in the area which was super helpful for day trips. Nice, peaceful quiet area. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer vacation experience!

So perfect
My family and I (husband plus three kids ages 3-9) stayed a week at Sunset Point and we all agreed it was the best vacation yet. The house was so clean and everything we needed but didn’t think of was provided. It was in a gorgeous location with the quintessential rocky Maine coast right in our back yard. The owners provide a binder with all kinds of suggestions and information to make the most of your trip. We hiked numerous local trails, went up to Quoddy Head to see a lighthouse and Canada, biked the Schoodic loop in Acadia, took a sail on a four masted schooner in Bar Harbor, canoed to Fish island to explore, ate lobster and roasted plenty of s’mores in the fire pit on the rocks. We had one rainy day and even it was perfect as we played board games, watched movies, and drank hot chocolate.
Thank you thank you, Schmid family, for sharing your beautiful home with us. We can’t wait to come back

Exceeded expectation
Location a bit of a challenge but is perfect for those that are comfortable with quiet spectacular views. Owners put a lot of effort in anticipating guests needs. Property is maintained perfectly and on site management is cordial and responsive.
We will book again next season.

Gorgeous Steuben Cabin
We loved our stay at this cabin. It is more of a beautiful home than a cabin, and the best we have ever stayed in. It was recently remodeled in beautiful wood paneling. The owners have thought of everything for your comfort. The towels, linen, silver ware and dishes were all top notch. The beds were all extremely comfortable as was the furniture. I have a bad back but never had any problems there. Every utensil and spice you could need was also there, and the porch had a large number of great chairs with cushions for a really comfortable time of reading or just watching the fishing boats. They also had a big HDTV with a great selection of cable. Didn't miss my football, although their cable tended to show more of those east coast teams over the Cowboys or Texans. It is the best cabin we have ever stayed at, and the nicest owners. GREAT stay!

So Beautiful!
Described as "beautiful and private" and that's exactly what it is! We really enjoyed our stay at this cottage in the woods on the beach. Mornings were so peaceful, having coffee on the deck with a nice cool breeze and so relaxing! Great way to start the day! The cottage was equipped with everything you could possibly need while on vacation! We loved it!

Great place to stay! The cottage is set in the woods but beautifully overlooks the Dyer Bay
My family and I ( husband) 2 teenage sons (19 &17) and 12 year old daughter loved the cottage! It sits above Dyer Bay which is beautiful early in the morning and at night. Breakfast was eaten on the deck as we watched the lobster boats and listened to the water. In the evening we made a couple of fires on the rocks but be sure you know when high tode is coming because your fire will be burning one minute and than smoking the next as water seeps under the wood. The cottage was clean, nicely decorated and spacious. We spent our days enjoying Acadia National Park with a couple of hikes- Schoodic Point and Cadillac Mountain. We also rented kayaks at Long Pond and the kids experienced stand up Paddle Boarding on Echo Lake. The weather was sunny with no humidity so we spent time at Sandy Beach and went to Bat Harbor. We were able to experience all of what Maine has to offer especially eating lobsters. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage: it is a rustic and has a forestry feel to it but because it sits above the bay you also get a waterfront vibe as well!
