This was such a cool place to come with my husband, teenage daughter and her friend! The property grounds were kept immaculate, and the landscaping was gorgeous. We loved the main pool areas, which were ample, as much as we loved the beach. Convenient bridge over the road means no having to cross traffic to get to the beach and you can use the pools at the sister property (Destin Seaside), but we didn’t because ours were way better! Easy walk to The Island, which has a great breakfast buffet plus other menu choices and there is a gas station right next to the property with pantry staples/food and beach stuff. We also rented a pontoon right next door to take out to Crab Island one day and it was convenient to walk over. We didn’t have a car but luckily there was just enough nearby (and Instacart for what wasn’t). The condo itself was roomy, but a bit dated in areas like the bathrooms. Compared to other VRs, it was the absolute least minimum stocked place I’ve ever been to and didn’t like having to spend money on trash bags and dish scrubbies, etc. The master bed wasn’t comfortable at all (think coils). Overall, the grounds and location more than made up for it. We give it a 5 because we thought it was better than a 4, maybe 4.5! Very safe area, our teenage girls roamed on their own with no worries. Ubers do take a long time here though, just FYI to plan on that!

Garbage stay away from this unit and Chris he is horrible on every level and left us with a unit that had no working bathroom lights, the run around blaming the property and it is definitely not remodeled with disgusting windows one can not see out water leaks in this unit

Great location to everything. The gulf options for swimming endless. Then the bayside to swim also another great option. Then the pool. So if you love water this is the place.

The property was as pictured. It is already showing wear from the advertised renovation. I imagine it gets a lot of use. It was somewhat awkward being above the lower walk-out units as the balcony overlooked their patio and grill area. The lazy river was the highlight although if you are early to bed or have little ones it can get very loud at night. It closes at 10 P.M. which was nice. We found several nights the party moved from the lazy river to the balconies and patios. The condo itself was basic. We had to setup the TVs as the cable cords in all of the bedrooms were unplugged. Smart TVs would have been a nice upgrade for all of the TVs. The humidity inside the condo was a bit much. Everything felt damp all of the time. We kept the doors closed as instructed but it was always wet inside. The manager requests communication via text and takes a while to reply if you prefer communicating through VRBO as I did. Primary shower fixtures need updating, they are corroded and could easily cut someone’s hand. We did not use the jetted tub. The light switches work, although they too could have been updated in the renovation. Primary windows are cloudy taking away from the view. Doors, front and back, are very hard to open. I provided a list of lightbulbs to the manager that were out which did add to the worn out look and feel. I would book again at the Destin West, but I’m not sure if I would book this particular one again.

Great stay. One pool (the biggest one) was not heated but the beach, resort and condo are perfect. A little hiccup with the resort management and painting the floors, but Communication with Chris was good so it made up for it. I highly recommend renting here.

We booked this condo for a beach volleyball tournament and it was perfect! The communication from day 1 was quick and thorough. I had some questions as we booked several units through different companies and hoped for them to be close. This unit was the nicest that we booked. It was more updated and had a great feel. It was very comfortable. The kitchen has everything we needed. It was a quick walk to the beach across the street through the sky bridge. Walking distance to food and bars. The lazy river and hot tubs were a hit. Will absolutely book this one again!

We enjoyed the pool areas for the kids . Everything was in walking distance and this was very nice , So many sweet families all around enjoying all that you have to offer .
We all agree the only change we would suggest is new rug in LR and new cleaning products for the floors.
Other then this we had everything we needed. We would book again, particularly having kids, Great place to stay.

Condo was beautiful. Main issue was the king bed was terrible! It felt like you were sleeping in a hammock and not in a good way.

The property is nice. We loved the fact that we could swim in the gulf, in the bay, or the pools. The biggest flaw we saw was the cleanliness at check in. They charge alot for a cleaning fee and the condo should reflect that. Overall, we would definitly stay here again, we had a great time.

We really enjoyed our time at Destin West. Condo was clean and nicely decorated. Kids loved the lazy river, pools and hot tubs. The beach was beautiful! We enjoyed having The Boardwalk close by for dinners, drinks and ice cream. We would definitely stay there again!

We love Destin West. This was our first stay at this property. We loved it. A couple of small items (that we could live with) we addressed almost immediately, including installation of a brand new stove. Chris and team are all over it

This unit was not adequately cleaned. Toilet in Master was broke and took almost 48 hours to fix. Refrigerator had mismatched handle that someone attempted to replace. And it was broken. Dryer vent was broken and and is definitely a fire hazard. Beds were difficult to sleep in due to worn down mattresses. Stove top was sadly abused and scratched. Shame someone would treat a unit like this. Overall, not a great experience for us. We won’t be back to Pelican.

We enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back to stay here. The check-in process was easy and convenient. Chris communicated everything we needed to know in order to make the most out of our stay. We enjoyed all the wonderful pools and the Lazy River. The beach was a short walk across the road, and was never overcrowded. Everyone was super nice and showed great southern charm. You will not find this easy-going laid back, friendly demeanor in people up north. Thanks for a stress free week of living!

Perfectly placed in the middle of all the shopping and entertainment. The price isn’t painful either. The beach is right across the street but if you have disabled ppl in your party that can’t walk the distance across the bridgeway then you can drive to the parking garage across the street and follow the signs to the beach ramp. They rent chairs and umbrellas for $25, the guy running the chair rental was the nicest most polite young man. The place was exactly as described, clean and cozy. Lots of extra pillows and towels in the room. Right above the lazy river, but not noisey at all. Pools were all well maintained every morning.
Only issue we had was the door code, we tried 1 minute early to get in and it wouldn’t work. We called the property manager listed in our email (don’t go to the front desk) and he returned our call within minutes but we had already gotten in the room. So just a little FYI if you try early it wont work and takes 2 mins for the door to reset itself for you to try again. It would be nice if they put that in the email so dumbies like us know.
I will stay again and will recommend to everyone.

Definitely a kid friendly trip. Lots of families around the resort. If you are looking for something quieter, I would stay on the other side. The building itself never felt crowded and there was never a wait for the elevator. The condo was very nice and the kids loved the bookroom!

The pros:
Easy rental and communication from the property team. Super clean unit! Loved the lazy river and pools on the bayside more, it seemed like everyone hung out there so it was busy. Walking across to the beach wasn't bad, and the multiple pools were excellent! The elevator/parking/pool areas never seemed crowded, except midday on the bayside pools. I wish the lazy river was warmer in March so I could enjoy its beauty more!
The cons:
Needs more chairs or per room chair limit to sit by the pool because some people put their towels on 4 or 5 chairs then don't use them hardly. The oven and flat top doesn't cook evenly. The master bed is too hard and needs a memory foam topper deseperatly (the couch bed was more comfortable). The gate to the pool area slams loudly, when sitting on the balcony it dampens the otherwise serene experience.

West Destin Bay Resort
We loved our stay here! The condo was newly remodeled and beautiful as well as spacious. The lazy river was our favorite place and the landscaping around it and the pool was like a tropical paradise. We will definitely be back!

Nice place! Would stay again!
Overall, we had a great experience! Our only complaint would be that 30 minutes prior to our check out time, the cleaning lady knocked on our door and stated we had to be out by 10am (which we were obviously already aware of). She then stood RIGHT outside our door waiting for the next 30 minutes making us feel very uncomfortable. It was incredibly rude. However, we realize this is certainly a reflection of the cleaning crew, not the condo itself. Again, other than that, great place!

Great Family Condo
Great property! Condo had a great view of the pool. Large balcony. Chris was great and took care of any issues we had immediately.
The only negatives are there isn’t a lot of space to put clothes unless you want to hang everything. Very little drawer space. So be prepared to hang your clothes or live out of your suitcase.
Really easy to get to the pool. The beach on the other hand is not the easiest. You have to take 3 sets of stairs or elevators to get to the beach. The bridge is nice but it is a lot of up and down to get to the beach. We found it worked nicely to use one of the rolling racks for all of our stuff so we weren’t having to carry everything so far. It is about a 5 minute walk from your room to the beach. It isn’t horrible but definitely not convenient if you want to go back to your room for something real quick.
Overall it was a great place and the family had a blast.

Good location easy access to beach and pool. Not the cleanest place to stay.
Great location on the property and for the Ft. Walton/Destin area. The unit wasn’t actually very clean. The bathrooms were ok, but the floors were pretty grimy to be somewhat new. The linens are probably a few years old and need replacement. (Sheets pilling, flattened pillows etc). The master bedroom has plenty of space the mattress is quite firm. The queen bed has a slightly more plush mattress. The kitchen has plenty of dishes, cookware, and small appliances that you might need. The oven however had something previously cooked over. When preheating for our dinner a terrible burnt smell/smoke filled the unit and never really fully cleared (this was reported to management). Overall I give this unit a 3. It has several perks with space and location, but it could have been cleaner and hopefully management will address those issues. Not likely to return to same unit.

Had a few very minor issues upon arrival but overall my family and I definitely enjoyed our stay. Everyone was comfortable and felt at away. We will definitely book again!!

Our Favorite Condo at Destin West!!
This was our third stay at Destin West. While we have enjoyed them all, this was by far our favorite Condo yet!!! Awesome view of the Lazy River, short walk to the beach, had everything we needed, and overall PERFECT!!! Chris was the BEST Property Manager, very responsive! We had a couple of questions and he was very quick to answer and offer any assistance we needed. We would HIGHLY recommend this unit to anyone looking for an AMAZING Vacation!!!

Our best Florida trip so far!
We loved it here! Everything we needed!!! The condo was clean, comfy, and wonderful views of the gulf and lazy river. Family Of 6, plenty of room. We brought our wagon for the beach walk, very easy to get to. We met a family on our first day to split the cost of the double slide pontoon and go to crab island. That was so fun!!!!! A first for us. Wish we could stay longer!!! Had a blast! Chris was so helpful with my questions. Thank you for letting us stay!

Best vacation all year!
The location and unit are amazing and our grandchildren never wanted to leave the property. The property manager Chris helped make our stay so much better! He responded very quickly to our questions and immediately brought us a new cable box and made sure that it was working before he left. He is the reason we will be returning to this unit! The best vacation hands down!

Great Family Vacation
Enjoyed a vacation with wife and kids and this place was perfect. The lazy river and various pools were enjoyed by all, and the walk over the bridge to the beach was short and easy. Very family friendly and plenty to do for both young and older kids, as well as adults.
The restaurants on the beach side are really good, so if you don't want to mess with the traffic in Destin I recommend hitting these restaurants instead.
Well worth the money and already have votes to rent here again.

Making Great Memories at Destin West.
Our family had a wonderful time at Destin West Resort. The property had a rock waterfall, a lazy river, and two hot tubs on the bay side, then two more pools, a workout room, and the beach on the opposite side of the highway. The condo was well-decorated, spacious, and comfortable for myself, my wife, our son and his wife, and our grandson. We had a special stay, and made memories that we will always cherish. We were very fortunate to have Chris Mcllwain guide us throughout the booking, check-in, and checkout process. I had to touch base with him five or six times and was thoroughly impressed with his professionalism and promptness in replying to any questions we had. Thanks Chris, and we are already looking forward to returning next year!
