After reading some of the reviews on the age of this house, I was a bit concerned....and yes pulling up to the house.. it is clearly one of the older houses on the block! Surrounded by new(er) homes with bright colors, mammoth decks, 3 floors high that sleep dozens of people (and they have the price tag to go with it!!!!) When I walked into this "little" house, it didn't seem so little anymore. Plenty of room inside for 12 people to lounge around, at no time did we feel a lack of space. The floor plan and layout is perfect. You have basically 2 living rooms, a big kitchen with plenty of cooking space and seating for a very large family plus some. In addition, the screened in porch off the kitchen was a great place to sit at night and enjoy the breeze yet be out of the rain/wind. The structure of the house is just incredible. Felt like we were in a cabin on the beach. Nice hardwood walls and ceiling - very cozy! As far as cleanliness (we are very picky when it comes to cleanliness in any rental/hotel room), first thing we checked was bathrooms and kitchen...I was told they have a professional cleaning service come in before each rental and it sure looked like it, the place was spotless. Also, the appliances are all new or newer and very clean. The decks outside are also in good shape, with plenty of plenty of space to relax on the decks... and it's just a very short walk down the deck walkway onto the beach. There is a picture on the wall of the house from when it was first built.... it was the only house built in that area at the time...pretty cool looking around that house, wondering what it has seen and been through, Yet... is still in as good of shape as it is. Kudos to the management company, maintenance folks, and cleaning service!!! 5 stars for all you folks!!! And a special Thank You to the owner of the property for not knocking this house down and building a super house...There is definitely something special there with that house. We will definitely be back

We’ve stayed in this house on every visit to OBX for the past 20 years. It’s an older home, the first one built in this beach area. Some reviews say it’s dated or old. That’s part of why we like this house. It’s quirky and comfortable, but in good condition for most part. Furniture is recovered or replaced. Appliances are newer. It’s as you’d expect from the photos. The cargo lift added a few years back is a great improvement. We also love the new benches added at the top of the stairs to the beach. All this, along with Friday checkin, the best oceanfront location, and being dog friendly, is what keeps us coming back to this house. Wasn’t as clean this visit as in the past, but otherwise a great stay.

We have been coming to the Outer Banks for over 20 years and have stayed in a lot of different vacation rentals. This was the most dated and dirty rental we have ever stayed in. I don’t mind a “dated” place if it is clean, but his place was not. We had to clean the kitchen and bathrooms before even moving our luggage in. That being said, the oceanfront location is awesome, and a week in the OBX with family is always great.

This was our third summer staying at Pharoah's Delight. This time we stayed for 2 weeks and enjoyed every minute of it. The property has a cabin-y feel to it, with amazing views from the decks, and also allows dogs, which are just some of the reasons why we love it SO much. Its location on the beach, with a private walkway/beach access, as well as multiple decks and a screened-in porch, make it the perfect place for a family stay. We will be back!

The house is obviously an older style, and not as big as most others on the oceanfront in Whalehead, but the value for oceanfront cant be beat. We had an A/C issue in one of the bedrooms, and Carolina Shores was quick to send an HVAC expert who evaluated the issue the very next day, got owner authorization to do the necessary work, and had it fixed a day later. Unbeatable views. We loved the deck setup with the two separate crows nest vantage points,,the benches at the end of the walkway, and the fact that every outside access point to the deck had a gate, meaning our pups could stay on the deck with us and we knew they wouldnt be able to get to the road or the beach unless we opened a gate.

I spent my childhood coming to this house for a week many summers, and finally I got to share it with my children. It hasn't changed at all, and it doesn't need to because it is perfect. A stone's throw from the beach (a life saver with small children), comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen. Love the recliners in the living room. Screened in porch was great for napping and coming in for lunch. One of the outdoor shower heads was missing when we arrived, I alerted the office and went to the beach. Wehn I went to shower at the end of the day, there was a shower head! We ordered pizza one night and the delivery driver told us he loved this house because it was one of the original ones and so much better than the new huge ones. We agree. Fingers crossed we can pull off another week in paradise, none of us wanted to leave our new home away from home! Thank you for this house!

This was our second visit to Pharoah's Delight and it was wonderful! It's 'old school' beach house, with lots of porch/deck space to spread out. We love the open layout of the interior living/dining/kitchen areas. Bedrooms are small but well-equipped with TVs, ceiling fans and comfy beds.

this was our second year staying at this home. we love that the home is "outdated" and that it is dog friendly. we had to reach out to the management company once each trip and they were quick to respond. this trip the cargo lift was out of service and we were not told that when we picked up the keys. there was a storm that came in that morning that probably blew away any sign they had up - not an issue just wish we knew before my inlaws attempted to use it. overall it was another great trip and may book again next year as long as my inlaws can still handle all the stairs.

Great location with private beach access.
This is an older home, NOT one of the many McMansion beach houses you will see in the neighborhood, but it IS a great, old-school beach house. It was just what we were looking for, especially because it was dog-friendly.
Upsides: great location on the Outer Banks, amazing private beach access with a wooden walkway and gate, great outdoor lounging options with a number of decks and a screened-in porch, a wonderful living/dining/hang out space in which everyone could be together while still doing their own thing, great appliances (a double oven!), plenty of parking for our needs. Downside: we rented both the house and the lower rooms, and one of those rooms obviously hadn't been rented in a while because it was very dusty and mildew-y. It definitely hadn't been cleaned in some time,. We had thought to bring
cleaning supplies with us, so we cleaned it ourselves and then left the windows open to air out the musty smell. If you have allergies or sensitivities, you won't want to sleep in the basement rooms. For the rest of the house, the cleaning was OK but we did find some sand on a table top or two.
It is an older house, so as long as you set your expectations accordingly, you will love it. We have reserved it for next year already!

Great house and location
The house and location were great. Only issue we had was the checking and the lift. We had to pick the keys up in kitty Hawk so had to drive 40 minutes out of our way to get there and then 40 minutes to the house. When we got there the lift didn't work and were told there was a work order in for it. Good thing we had our young nephew with us to carry everything up the stairs. Didn't get fixed for departure either. Otherwise we enjoyed the beach access and close proximity to stores.

House had lots of space and very nice
I love the location and privacy of the house. There was a lot of space. What I had issues was with the check in/out process of having to pick up a key to make it to the house. They should be using the new lock boxes or new locks at the house. House wasn’t clean properly when we got there around 5:30PM it was still getting cleaned by the handy man it wasn’t the cleaning crew. Overall I think it was ok, but cleanliness was definitely bad. We had to clean ourselves to make sure we were good.

We’ve stayed in this house many times since 2000. The best beach and a great location. However, the property is in need of an upgrade. Furniture, appliances bathrooms etc haven’t been upgraded in the past 20 years, yet it rents for the same price as the newer homes that are larger and have more amenities. House has the potential to be quite the little gem, just needs a little more TLC. Great location, great accommodations, love the layout of the place. Internally the house is beautiful, solid, very comfortable, it has many amenities. Outside furniture, decking and grounds need to be maintained better, pests need to be kept in check. Housekeeping a little better than average, responsiveness of agency started out strong then faded mid week. Would consider renting again.

Unlike the grand hotel like houses with umpteen bedrooms and a pool, this home features lazy boy recliners, time worn games and mounted fish. This was our fifth year staying in Pharoah's Delight. Another great vacation was enjoyed by all. We love this house on so many levels. It's perfectly located and has everything you need for a family vacation. We enjoyed the days on the beach soaking up sun, playing in the waves, watching dolphins go by, and reading novels for hours on end. The evenings were spent on the decks playing music, enjoying beautiful sunsets, breathing in the ocean air, and watching for wildlife (we enjoyed seeing a family of deer, four of them, spending time on the dunes, and even jumping over the boardwalk).
We'll be back again for year number six! I'm already counting down the days.

Our visit was fantastic!!! The house easily accommodated our large family and dog. It was very clean, had a very well stocked kitchen, amazing views, and endless porches, decks and boardwalks. When the internet failed, we received immediate help on what turned out to be a pretty big problem. A great deal of time was spent having it repaired, and they followed up with us the next day to see that all was well. The cargo lift was so very wonderful for moving the belongings of 10 people upstairs, as well as a big help bringing up groceries. The home was convenient to all the good things about Corolla - food, shopping, library, the lighthouse. Working with the Carolina Shores professional staff was a pleasure.

This was our fourth year staying at Pharoah's Delight, and as in years past, we had a wonderful time. This house is perfect in so many ways. It's on the beach, even on crowded days your area of the beach remains somewhat secluded, it's dog friendly (as is the beach), it's a Friday-Friday rental, and it's a comfortable home all around. If you're looking for a glamorous house, this is not it. Pharoah's Delight is what a true beach house is all about.
We've already reserved for year five, and are counting down the days until our next visit.
Also, the management and maintenance staff were wonderful. Regarding the house, my only suggestion would be to downsize on the glasses and dishes. This would help leave room for groceries and provide a little extra kitchen space. Please let the owners know how much we enjoy staying at their home every year. All the best, Tracey

We have been coming to Pharoah's Delight for many years and it feels like home to us. Although we still love the house, we had an unfortunate experience with the management. Early one morning an outlet in the bathroom, which had not been recently used began to smoke. Smell of an electrical fire permeated the house. We rushed down to pull the fuse and called the rental company. Four calls and 8 hours later, a morose, unapologetic handyman arrives to fix the problem. It may have seemed small to him, but the idea of an electrical fire in a house with small children was frightening to us. The company's lack of responsiveness was surprising.

There was very little information/follow thru from the rental company. We would bot rent thru their agency again if not necessary. Also bed linens and towels were not provided. We have been visiting the obx for 15-20 years and have never ran into this before. All linens/towels have always been provided. The home itself it a great value for an oceanfront property. Its old bit thats part of the nostalgia.

Overall it was okay. The location was great - right on the beach but not a ton of people. Somehow missed the fat we needed to order linens which came the day after we arrived. The place was quarky - which we like - but it was pretty downtrodden really dusty. Some of us have hayfever - and we coughed most of the week. The beds were very uncomfortable - like the old hard hotel mattresses. With some new mattresses, new couch and chair cushions, and clean rugs - it would get four stars for the price.

We very much enjoyed our week! This was the first time we ever stayed "beachfront".......LOVED IT. The house was generally clean, but could've been a little cleaner. Quite a few pieces of furniture had dust & the throw rugs were definitely not vacuumed or shook out......SAND!!! One recommendation would be to purge some of the kitchen items to try to leave at least one empty cabinet shelf for the dry goods we brought. I emptied a shelf into an empty container we brought stuff in & then put it back at the end of the week. Definitely don't need all the tupperware that is there. The property mgmt co was professional when making my reservation, however when checking in to pick up the keys they were not in the office & NEVER contacted me to tell me what to do. The business next door to the office helped me to find the keys...thank goodness. When checking out to return the keys, there was nobody in the office again! It all worked out, but I think there should have been better communication.
