The atmosphere was absolutely amazing here. You really feel like you’re sleeping in the rainforest, away from the rest of the world, able to disconnect and find peace. The staff were all very kind, all the guests seemed to know each other and were very friendly, and the food was delicious. I stayed with my son but I could see how this would be a great place for romantic partners to escape together. We stayed in one of the rooms in the lodge so it was a great price for a place to sleep and clean up before exploring the area.
This part of Hawaii is always humid and rainy, so having some more or better fans or some air conditioning would be great. Also, the common bathroom wasn’t a problem for us, but the privacy film on the door could have been a little more private; I ended up hanging our second towel over the curtain rod for peace of mind.

it was such a peaceful place with great employees! I definitely enjoyed staying there.
no clear explanation on how everything works (e.g. spa, gym etc). only on request.

Quiet area except for the birds and lots of rain but we loved being in nature. Nice showers and bathroom. Cabin was cute, nice airflow. Quiet all day and night.
The map was a little hard to read.

spa great hot tub /. beds & fans = good nights sleep

I honestly could not wait to leave this place. I stayed in one of the lodge rooms. There were white ants (termites?) crawling all over the counter and night stands. The door to my room wouldn’t lock from the outside, so my belongings weren’t secure throughout the day. I felt less like I was experiencing a relaxing retreat and more like I was crashing the “interns” hangout spot. They were very loud, until very late. Unfortunate since I was wanting to go to sleep early and wake up before sunrise each day. I was hoping for a quiet jungle stay. I don’t typically leave reviews, but I found this place extremely misleading and would have much rather stayed elsewhere.

The grounds were beatiful and rustic. Hippie vibes. Super friendly staff. Great yoga class.

I loved the granola and liked having the option to join community members for breakfast or lunch. I appreciated the rustic and grounded energy of the center and talking to community members about the island and their experiences. I loved taking yoga and the Plant Aloha class and the Friday dance was a nice bonus. It was a very relaxing way to start my Hawaiian holiday.

I felt free here. The hosts were extra kind. The outdoor shower was blissful. You can sign up to have the sauna all to yourself with a nice view of the jungle. The granola breakfast and coffee were delicious and abundant. Parking was easy. The massage with Silke was the best I ever had. I recommend this place for a peaceful time and self care especially.
Expect to be free and learn about the property on your own if you arrive when staff are busy. It’s 44 acres so they may be in an another spot. But they are easy going about you finding your way, the binder provides details.

The cabin was really comfortable
In my reservation the breakfast was included and the dinner was available, but when I arrived breakfast and lunch were available by paying extra, no dinner available.
On the other side I really enjoyed my private bathroom and very hot water in the shower.

Amazing environment and nature!
Some staff members are great and lovely, some made me pretty uncomfortable.

Nature
There is a frigging RAVE club here! I was thinking I was going to enjoy nature & retreat feel. But DEFINITELY NOT relaxed...... it was going on until late at night.
There's only 1 shower. & it was gross.
Also no air flow ventilation 2 direction. Stale air. 1 way ventilation.
Also, there's only 2 shared toilet. None in the room.

Some of the female staff - Mary was friendly and helpful and Archile (sp?) deserves 5 stars for always being so nice and helpful. The farm setting with the peacocks, geese, turkeys, chickens and cats were great.
This place is all about yoga and ecstatic dancing for the ? staff and community but the overnight guests seemed to be an afterthought. We were amused by peacocks waking us up, we hiked to the limited outdoor facilities in the dark, we tolerated the loud, repetitive disco music for the Sunday afternoon ecstatic dance for not 2 but 3 hours (I even participated for 20 minutes), but being woken up at 9:30 on our last night with even louder, blaring disco music and lights by STEPHEN THE MANAGER and his buddies was just too much. Even when we complained that it was after the stated “quiet hour” of 9PM he did not shut it down. Unbelievable.

Magical
front entrance looks like a war zone

The location of this property is good. The setting is beautiful - it is essentially in the jungle and close to Pahoa town. The location is good for getting to Volcano National Park.
This hotel is not accurately represented on Booking.com. It feels like more of a commune and is extremely overpriced for what is offered. The shared bathroom was filthy and had slugs on the walls. The bedsheets smelled damp. There was also an electronic rave taking place one night (no masks), which we were only told about after we had booked.
I’m sure this is a great place to stay for people looking to have a certain experience (very free spirited) but do not come here if you are looking for a spa hotel or a comfortable base to visit the volcanoes national park.

Such a peaceful retreat with many bird species & lots of various fruit trees on the property. I love everything that’s offered here. The spa & infrared light sauna is just what we needed! Next time I return I will be sure to take part in the yoga classes offered.

Great vibes, amazing nature all around. All in all great place to heal and regenerate.

Located in the middle of the rainforest. Lots of animals like peacocks. Incredibly friendly people working and living there. Great included granola breakfast with home-grown fruit every morning.
You can use sauna, whirlpool, gym (quite old and rusty), take part in yoga classes, bee dances and other classes and experiences.
We didn’t mind, but I think you should know before you book, especially travelling with kids or COVID wise being in a risky health condition. It seems to be an open community, nobody wears masks ever, we were irritated by a note on the blackboard said that COVID didn’t really exist and that the vaccination would be an attempted genocide. Nobody checked our vaccinations either.
Plus people consume drugs in the common area which you should know when travelling with kids I guess. Although we don’t know if all the consumed drugs were completely legal.

Our room was clean and the spa pool and sauna are a nice option to have.
The check in process was weird and unorganized. No one was there that actually had access to the reservations so the friendlyish guy at the coffee area just kind of guessed which room to bring us to. I tried calling the number provided but no one answered. No manager or employee ever checked in with us. We weren't given any information about the use of the spa or the included breakfast which I am assuming makes up most of the nightly cost. Luckily, we ran into another guest later in the evening that reluctantly gave us the code to access the spa area. The description on booking.com clarifies retreat and wellness focus, but if this is a strictly no alcohol facility and unwelcoming to guests that don't participate in yoga, perhaps it should be advertised on a more specific booking website. Overall too expensive for such an uncomfortable experience.

Nothing that would keep me from stating there again :)

Staff were friendly and helpful. Activities (healing ceremony and ecstatic dancing) were well organized and engaging.
My room had opening windows, up high above the entryway, but I wasn't able to reach them. I wanted to, and probably could have received help from the staff, but it was too late to bother them.
