Staff were fantastic. Couldn’t do enough for us throughout our stay. Gardens are also lovely.

There was a horrendous smell from our room but we were moved to another nicer room when we raised it. Hotel is getting “tired” and is in desperate need of a refurb of the bathrooms in the rooms.

The hotel is set in some nice gardens a few kilometres outside of Waterford. I really liked the beauty of the house and gardens but being built in 1730 as a house for the local bishop it lacked some of the modern amenities like air-conditioning in the rooms.

I booked to stay for a couple of nights before the Waterford Marathon. I was travelling from Australia and needed a good nights sleep the night before the marathon. We were put in room 8 which was a beautiful room but right above the function room which was hosting a wedding. There was zero sound proofing in the room and it was exceedingly noisy. It was also hot and there is no air-conditioning so staff suggestion to open windows made the noise even worse. I tried ear plugs but the music still made it impossible to sleep. The staff moved us to another room which was great at about 11pm as the wedding wasn't finishing until much later and while that was appreciated the overall stay was compromised as I was annoyed I couldn't get a good nights sleep the night before my race after booking an expensive country manor to do so.

Clean room, comfortable bed

No pre-arrival communication from the hotel. No staff at reception on arrival. Checked in, then went out to explore the city, when we arrived back in the evening there was an ‘event’ going on causing noise in the room. Was only informed about the Waterford marathon on arrival meaning we would be ‘trapped’ in the hotel until mid-afternoon on check-out day due to road closures. If we had been given prior warning of either of these events we could have looked at alternative accommodation.

Head office. Where do I start. I arrived late Tuesday evening and it was a last minute booking. I thought I paid with booking.com but was told on arrival that I didn't so I paid €249 on arrival. There was 0 signal so when I got connected to the WiFi I checked my bank account and noticed that I had in fact paid through booking.com. The next morning (Wednesday) I said this to reception. She was lovely and tried to issue a refund immediately but couldn't. She rang head office to sort it and they told her they would PHONE ME and sort it soon. They still haven't phoned me and it's now Saturday evening. I have emailed twice about it and was told on the first reply that head office aren't refunding me but they have requested booking.com to issue a refund on Wednesday. I emailed again on Friday and it has been ignored. I am a single mother of 3 kids and we are currently homeless due to the housing crisis. This night away was a treat for my kids. A break away from our situation. I am out of pocket by €249 since Tuesday night. 4 days so far and I presume refunds don't happen on Sundays so it will be a minimum of 6 days without that money by Monday. Head office have alot to answer for. I will be at reception on Monday and will not be leaving the hotel until I have received my refund. Booking.com didn't cause this so they shouldn't be the ones refunding me in the first place.

The breakfast was excellent and well presented. The room neat and clean and the staff were top notch. They made the stay that much more pleasant.
