Good resort for working on the island for 2+ weeks.

Nice stay round the clock security kept me from trying to smoke cugars on the balcony. Its ok i just walked 100 yards to the mostly vacant beach and watched the surf. Housekeeping came every other day. You can rent snorkeling and beach related items by the office. Good food trucks and restaurants near. Shops where i bought gifts for the family. My unit had a full kitchen and a view of the koapond.

We have stayed at this property 5 previous times, and last time was with the same owner. When I reserved this year, the photos of the type of unit I reserved were the same as the previous year, and similar to all other units we had stayed in. It was "advertised" exactly the same as before, and I even requested the same unit if possible.
When we arrived, we were put in building "K", which is right on the street. Not only that, but after seeing the unit and discussing it with management, we found out we were in the only building that had NOT one bedroom suites, but instead, "mini suites". There was a kitchenette, tiny eating area and "living" area. The furniture was very uncomfortable. The only thing on the patio (which overlooked the parking lot) was 2 small plastic chairs and a TINY end table. The bathroom sink was leaking, some things didn't work, the a/c was loud, etc. This was NOT what we paid for. Management informed us they couldn't do anything about it, and that IF we wanted to pay an upgrade fee and a cleaning fee MAYBE they could move us in 4 days.
I have tried to figure out how to contact the owner, but that information is hidden from me. We believe we deserve a refund of at least half. This rental was mis-represented to us and not satisfactory. We do still like Pono Kai, but don't EVER stay in building K. It was built later than the rest of the resort, but NOT to the SAME standards!!!

The condo was very nice. Not very big but okay for two people. The resort is wonderful. The staff are great. The amenities are numerous and the location is perfect.

First of all, pictures online are not the actual room that you receive. All rooms are chosen at the corporate level, you get what they chose for you.
Aside, the place has a variety of games/activities for the family to enjoy on the premise. The boardwalk along the beach (note, not a swimmable area for a few miles) gives stunning views to the sunrise. Very centrally located to travel along the island.

The grounds at Pono Kai are lovely and very well maintained. The unit we rented was perfect for 2 people, but it would have been too crowded for 4. There are many options for family activities on-site, as well as shopping and restaurants within walking distance. This area is very, very busy with traffic and pedestrians, and the neighborhood is filled with locals going about their daily lives. This is the place for you if you love shopping and being around lots of people.

We stayed at the Pono Kai resort for a week to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary . It was a great location. The condo was good. Our only complaint was that we did not get the unit we reserved on VRBO. The unit that was listed that I reserved said it had a king bed in the bedroom. We were given a unit with a queen size bed. They would not/could not give us a unit with a king size bed. We were disappointed but made the best of it. Since it was just the two of us it worked out. I hesitate to rent from here again if we come with another couple for fear we won’t get the unit we would reserve. The grounds are beautiful, the pool is nice (small for a resort the size of Pono Kai). It was great that they have an on-site place to rent beach chairs, umbrellas, etc…We would recommend this resort to others.

The location is awesome, very central to everything. Definitely need a car to be able to explore everything Kauai has to offer. Great shopping and decent restaurants within walking distance. A grocery store and an ABC store are close by. Very close to the airport too.
The property is older and is more of a hotel than a resort. Every room does have a kitchen or kitchenette. Some of the the rooms are not updated, but they are clean.
Our host, Tammy, was very accommodating and very prompt in replying to our concerns.

Pono Kai is close to everything. You don’t even need to leave the resort if you don’t want to. Plenty of amenities. There was one issue with the wrong name being attached to my reservation, but the property management office handled it quickly. I’d stay here again.

We really enjoyed our week here. Close and easy to walk to shopping and dining in Kapa'a. Beautiful, peaceful grounds. The pool and jacuzzi were great at the end of the day and very well kept. We cant wait to come back.

Central location to the south shore. Close to airport, Wailua river and golf. Great accommodations. Check in process took some time, as they appeared to be training and had some confusion regarding taxes. After that, no further issues.

Amazing
Awesome stay. More than enough room for myself and my wife. Comfortable furniture Central AC. Full kitchen. Amazing staff.
Even though our room had a garden view from the balcony, we could still see the ocean. Central location made getting ro the north or south side of the island easy. Property is bordered by a walking path that goes along the beaches of the east side of the island for miles.
10/10 would recommend and stay again.

Perfect location for 1st timers in Kapa’a!
Our condo K205 had everything we needed and was true to the description. The Pono Kai was a beautifully landscape complex, offering a variety of activities for everyone. The staff was excellent! We chose this location because this was our 1st time visiting the island and we wanted easy access to explore beaches from the north shore to the south shore. It was also super convenient to stores and restaurants. We would definitely stay here again! Mahalo!

Week at Pono Kai
Generally positive experience at Pono Kai. Started off rocky as front desk had deleted our reservation and weren’t super helpful about fixing it. Had some trouble communicating with host as app wasn’t working properly and host was a 6 hr time difference away. Otherwise the rest of the week went well and we found Kapa’a to be a good central location for exploring the island.

Loved being by the ocean-view bike trail and the resort activities like tennis, putting greens, pool, etc. Walking along the beach was very scenic, too.

Everything we needed and plenty of space
This condo was perfect for our family of four. Ample space and all the amenities we needed. Right on the ocean. The central location of Kapaa made it easy to see all of the island and get groceries and food easily. The condo could use some cosmetic updating, but it was comfortable and well stocked.

On the beach!
Rental process was easy. All my questions answered promptly. Property was accurately depicted.
What we didn't anticipate was the rainy and windy weather. We chased the sun to the south and west. The days the sun came out in Kapaa was magical. We had 3 beautiful sunrises in a week....would loved to have had more, but this is Kauai....the locals will say that rain makes rainbows and waterfalls...indeed it does.
The only issue we had was with the front desk. I booked this property, but my daughter arrived the day before us. I made arrangements for her family to be allowed to check in without us...when we checked in the next day my day daughter had to tell them our names in person even though MY name was on he reservation. They said they needed the name of every guest....I thought that odd. The front desk lady was a bit snippy about it as well.
Aside from that, no other issues...everyone wonderful and kind.
I will also say, do not expect Condo extras that you may have had if you've rented Condos before. No coolers, beach chairs, snorkel gear, games, etc. You must rent them at the activity center.
There were a couple of windy rainy nights it would have been nice to have a deck of cards or a board game to play with family.

Perfect location!
I don't think there's a more perfectly located condo than this one. The lanai has a gorgeous view, the corner unit is quiet, the third floor offers stunning ocean views. Easy walk to Kapaa Town and shops/restaurants. The condo itself was fantastic. Kitchen equipped with everything we needed, towels changed by housekeeping regularly, cable and internet access, clean and tidy. We definitely look forward to coming back! Mahalo nui loa!

Great Location
The location of the property was ideal. We were walking distance to restaurants, bars, and shopping. The property had many amenities and the staff were very helpful. The unit itself was clean and spacious. The view was incredible with an amazing sunrise every morning. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during our first trip to Kauai. We will definitely stay here again.

Coconut Coast Ocean Front
Nice accommodations. Great ocean view. A little warm inside one day when there was no wind and high humidity, but all in all a nice place to stay.

Incredible location and nice rental
The customer service was wonderful and we always felt safe, it was quiet and the property was well maintained. Our unit was ocean front which was incredible to be able to wake up every day and see the ocean. We had a couple issues. The screens kept falling off the window in the master bedroom and we were told they’d be fixed but never were, and the second bedroom with the queen bed had the scent of urine on the bed which was a little gross. The sofa bed is unbelievably uncomfortable, every spring is felt and there’s no support, we ended up just covering the couch in sheets and sleeping on it and folding the bed back in. The bed in the master bedroom was fine, just know the mattresses are on the soft side. The master bedroom is also HUGE which is nice and it’s really nicely having two full bathrooms. The water machine on the refrigerator doesn’t work so I would recommend people purchase water, the tap water was drinkable but not very good. And additionally there is a knob on a cabinet under the sink that stops the oven door from opening completely and it would continuously get banged when opened.

We loved the location and the property. The unit was spacious and the views are incredible. There is no AC, but we really didn’t miss it. The bathrooms were disgusting and smelled like urine. The refrigerator was rusty.

Beautiful location but unit in need of some renovations
Beautiful oceanfront views. Enjoyed watching the sunrise from the lanai. Beds were clean and fairly comfortable. Both bathrooms in need of some serious renovations - especially the bathtubs/showers and the master bathroom toilet. Tiled floors were not very clean when we arrived. But overall we did enjoy our stay. Location was great. Pono Kai is a nice resort. Close to the ocean and a short walk into town.

Perfect as described
Right on the oceanfront, the waves rolling in, with a 4 mile paved path out front along the beach to walk or bicycle. A surprisingly spacious two bedroom unit. My wife’s only complaint: the wild roosters of Kauai who woke her up every dawn. I liked watching them, but if you’re a sensitive late sleeper bring earplugs, or better, noise-cancelling plugs or headphones.

Very Satisfying Vacation
My family and I were very happy with our stay. We are a family of 6 and we stayed at unit A308. It is a beachfront, 2-bedroom end-unit. I slept at the pullout bed in the living room and left the sliding door slightly open at night to get the cool breeze. It was so nice to hear the waves crashing on the beach.
The condo looks better than the pictures posted on the site. The flooring must have been updated since those photos were taken because they already have tile flooring and the only carpeted area are the bedrooms. The condo is located at the heart of Kapaa, next to the restaurant row. Unlike most Vrbo rentals, the resort staff cleaned our rooms twice in the 7 days we were at the condo. They have pots and pans, plates and silverwares. The owner was also very responsive to my inquiries. Overall, a very happy customer here and will definitely book this again.

Right on the beach!
Such a wonderful place! Very convenient location in town, walking distance to restaurants and shave ice. It was pretty stuffy when we first arrived in the condo but once we opened the windows and it aired out it was really comfortable and breezy. Listening to the waves was very relaxing and we saw some beautiful sunrises from the balcony. Clean and easy, would definitely stay again!
