A little cold! But quite ok

A country retreat, within 25 min driving time of Santa Cruz and 15 min to several secluded beaches. This is a good base for exploring that northern half of the island and Roque de los Muchachos. Very quiet, the loudest noises were cock-a-doodle-doos by nearby farm roosters. The facilities are basic but in order, all the necessities provided. The host has been very nice and quick to bring a few extra things we have asked for. The place is a little bit uphill from the beaches, and air can be slightly chilly (an electric heater in bedroom is provided). Hot water is made by an automatic gas heater, which is good but you need to know how to operate the taps: 1. Open the hot tap to full flow. In 10 s water turns scalding hot. That is good, the heater is now burning. 2. Use cold water tap to add cold water to obtain desired shower temperature. Do not reduce the hot water flow, as that will stop the heater. 3. Should the hot water at full flow turn back to cold (and the kitchen stove no longer burns), give the host a phone call so he replaces the spent gas tank. This happens infrequently.

The host doesn't speak a word of English. The two bedrooms are not separate rooms - you walk through one to enter another. The description should have made this aspect clear! There is no wifi, just as the description says. In addition, the place has poor mobile phone reception (possibly because the house walls are very thick). We have been struggling to get internet using our phones. At night, little millipedes from the garden enter the house under the entrance door. They do not bite, but my spouse found their crawling around the place disturbing. (We have contemplated baiting them with a leaf of salad outside the door. Next guest, please try that!)
