Very well equipped home with plenty of kitchen items. I remember staying at this place before it was renovated! So happy it was renovated. My family members like to be in town, but this was a nice change.

This local decoy maker's cottage has been beautifully restored and is equipped with everything you need to make your stay a happy one. I especially appreciated the well-functioning kitchen with everything to hand to cook a complete meal, not always the case in holiday rentals! Chincoteague and surrounds have a lot to offer nature lovers and your stay is sure to be a relaxing one.

Reviewer Comments: Hancock House is a lovely historic Chincoteague home that has been lovingly restored to honor the memory of famous decoy carver Miles Hancock (1887-1974). His workshop, formerly on site, now awaits the visitor at the Museum of Chincoteague, where it helps explain the heyday of “market hunting.” Appalling to us today, killing ducks and geese in huge numbers was one way that the local watermen could survive in hard times. For two old friends, this was the perfect place to stay on Chincoteague, with two spacious bedrooms (beds had excellent mattresses), a large outside screened porch(there had been a mosquito explosion in the wake of Hurricane Dorian’s passing), comfortable living room and wonderful well-equipped kitchen and dining room. The half bath upstairs, where the bedrooms are, was a real boon. Nothing is far from anything else on Chincoteague, but this was the first time we had stayed north of the town center, and we liked it very much, would definitely return.

My family had a great time. The home is so cozy! Lots of little historic facts and artifacts from Mr. Hancock. We loved playing board games on the porch. The redone kitchen has everything you need to cook in and save money. Be mindful when walking up and down the staircase. It’s an old house, so the steps are skinnier. Just like anywhere in Chincoteague, come with gallons of big spray! Overall, would stay here again!

This is a beautifully restored traditional Chincoteague home in the Deep Hole area of the island, down a short unpaved lane very close to Little Oyster Bay. Formerly the home of famous decoy-maker Miles Hancock (on Hancock Lane), there are many historic photos and country antiques that contribute to the tasteful decoration of the house. We loved the large screened porch with comfortable furniture for morning tea or coffee and a good read, and the kitchen was incredibly well-equipped. We lacked for nothing. The two upstairs bedrooms had very comfortable beds and the half bath upstairs (complementing the full bath and laundry room downstairs) was a great convenience. The living room has very comfortable furniture and lots of literature to help structure a meaningful visit. Overall, there was a sense of peace and tranquility here that we treasured. Only a very short drive/walk/cycle ride from Maddox and downtown, I will definitely return to this special place.

We had a really wonderful week at the Hancock House. The house itself is a charming older home, was perfectly clean and stocked with everything we needed. The property owners live nearby and were friendly too. The house is on a side street very close to Maddox and near everything we needed. Plenty of room for our family of 4 (two adults, two kids).
