Great

It was after 9 pm when we checked in and check in was easy. Place was really nice and clean. Everything was well stocked. Bed was comfortable. The air wasn't on when we got there so it was pretty warm. The portable air conditioner didn't do anything for bedroom or bathroom area, only kitchen and living room. She said there'd be a ceiling fan when I asked before coming and they had not hadcomplaints on it being too hot in there before so I was praying that the portable air conditioner cooled down the bedroom too but it did not. there was a ceiling fan in the bedroom but it wouldn't turn on. We tried messaging and texting but they were out late and said they didn't have service. My husband had to go to Walmart to get some fans for us before we could go to bed and they did end up reimbursing us for those and we just left them there. They said that they hadn't been told that the ceiling fan didn't work so they had no idea. They never could get the ceiling fan to work while we were there. Even with the fans and I'm sure if the ceiling fan was working, for me it wasn't cool enough to sleep comfortable. It felt stuffy and warm. The fan would make it to where I had to cover up sometimes but then I would just get really hot again. My husband slept okay but he's a hard sleeper. I woke up several times during the night both nights and didn't get much sleep. There was also a little broken part on one of the blinds that let quite a bit of light in in the morning. It wasn't too bad but enough to wake a light sleeper up. If you like it cold when you sleep I would not recommend this place but if that doesn't bother you then everything else was great. The place would be amazing if they had central heat and air.

It was a nice apartment. The only thing was pretty steep stairs to enter.

Easy access to primary routes with convenient location for basics shopping. Quiet location. Nice kitchen setup with broad selection of food/ spice items available for the next guest.

This place was fantastic! Spacious and so comfortable .. Excellent location and the owners are very kind and accommodating. I will definitely stay here again !

Nearby La Mesa is a known jewel for locals- for all-around value and live-ability within San Diego proper and central location. It's not at the ocean but it's not hot the way it can be if you continue eastward with respect to the coast. For this location near Mount Helix you get the best of all worlds if you are planning to spend a few days in town and want to do a few things. I chose this place for my 6-year old son and myself - because I knew it had a kitchenette plus one separate bedroom which it does, and a nice TV which works nicely and is well mounted on the wall. My PS4 fit nicely in the small entertainment stand. There's a handy small-table there which slides easily and there are decent pillows there and also a body pillow. It looks like they have cable/direcTV but we didn't use it because we just watch Netflix. We had our own sheet which we threw on top of the couch but truly there was no need for that plus they do have a lot of towels and stuff there in the unit including a sheet on the bed. As instructed, when we left we peeled every sheet that we touched. It's always handy when a shower unit has shampoo, conditioner and body gel fixed to the wall. We did not use the washer or dryer though the over/under front loaders look quite sturdy. It's a long walk on a driveway with a steep decline so if mobility or a flight of stairs - is in any way a cautionary part of your vacation - I do not recommend this place. Otherwise, it's fabulous what you can get. It is nice of them to stock a nice array of condiments and frozen staples for you in the fridge and freezer. It's a nice mini-set of kitchen tools, find them on the left of the stove, they are minimalistic in culinary world but I did use and wash a few plates, pan and oven pans as well as silverware- I made tacos on the one night and broiled steak on the next. This picture truly does the property no justice as it appears to be a picture "THE VIEWPOINT FROM" the property and not "OF" the property., This place is a beautiful three-level structure whereby you are in the middle level. Fantastic outside table with sunshade.The driveway has room for several different cars, the spot for this unit is at the top of the hill. My son and I loved this driveway, but again as a sports coach I'm aware that the grade of that driveway could be prohibitive for older, sick/weak/tired/heavy/wounded, or otherwise walking-recuperative individuals. Our stay was good the flat was nice and cozy. Location was great, close to everything we needed! Thank you for all the extras you provided, very much appreciated. Central A/C did not work and the portable unit only cooled the front part of the flat but was not efficient enough to cool the back bedroom area, during the hottest part of the day, at night we were comfortable. If it had not been so hot & humid it would have been perfect. Communication was not very good. Would have been nice to meet you! Just an FYI...if more than 2 people stay at one time, a television in the bedroom would be nice as the 2 kids (12 & 13 year olds) who slept in the front room monopolized that during our stay. Our stay was so comfortable! The apartment is darling with thoughtful hosts who made our visit a pleasure! We were less than 15 minutes to anything so it was amazingly convenient! We will highly recommend this rental!

The flat has an open floor plan with nice living room type seating area, dining area and full kitchen, then a couple steps up to a separate bedroom and bathroom that includes a clothes washer and dryer. Having a kitchen and washer is idea for a longer stay when you want to cook "at home" and be able to wash clothes. A couple of caveats for some travelers: the flat is a daylight basement with a long, narrow exterior stairway and the flat inside has two or three steps between "living room" and kitchen/bedroom level, so it is not suitable for wheelchair access nor anyone with difficulty navigating stairs. Otherwise, both John and Kathy were great hosts, responsive to a couple of issues that arose. The central location in Spring Valley gives good access to the many freeways that crisscross San Diego, and so was it was easy to get around in any direction.
