Our family group of 8 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 toddlers had a lovely holiday at Les Volets Bleus. This characterful property is situated in a quiet rural area in the beautiful Dordogne region. The house and barn are well equipped for catering, the beds and pillows are comfortable and the pool is a good size with plenty of loungers and inflatables. The table tennis table was an added bonus as were the welcome bottles of wine. Janice is an attentive, helpful host able to offer plenty of advice on the local attractions. A car is a must, you will need it to get to the supermarket and to explore this stunning region.

Our family group of 8 adults, 2 teenagers and two toddlers thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 'Les Volets bleus'.
The house is well equipped with comfortable beds a lovely pool and plenty of space for all of us. The owner, Janice, was very helpful and knowledgeable, she sent us detailed local information before we traveled which was useful for planning ahead.
A car is a must to explore this stunning area fully and to get to the big supermarkets, night markets etc.

We stayed in the house for 2 weeks, with 11 of us in total - 4 adults and 7 children! We were welcomed by the most wonderful host, Janice. Janice made sure we were comfortable and prepared for every activity, weather and event. Whenever, there was anything we weren't sure of or wanted to know about, Janice was able to help and point us in the right direction.
The house itself is beautiful, in a lovely private area but not far from Tremolat itself. Would highly recommend the Night Market for a great evening out, the day market in Le Bugues and the river beach at Limueil.
This holiday is a mix of a wonderful laziness to easy exploring, either on foot, car or canoe down the river!
You will not be disappointed if you go ahead and book this house, it really will give you a holiday to remember.

Wonderful House with good Equipment in wonderful nature. We really enjoyed it and Janice the host was so welcoming and helpful with every question we had. And even it is located on beautiful nature there‘s a lot to do from sports, pool to dinner in tremolat (just a short way to town) we loved it - thank you so much!

A beautiful rural property. The houses are extremely well equipped. The grounds are gorgeous with walnut trees and a lovely large pool. There was plenty of space inside and out for our family of 10. Janice is a helpful and knowledgeable host. Lovely village of Tremolat about a mile away. Excellent shopping in Le Bugue about 8 miles away. Fun to be had canoeing the Dordogne river close by. We found a car to be essential.

From the moment we booked, Janice the owner, made contact and the service and hospitality we received was like no other I've ever received before. Her attention to detail and commitment to making your stay perfect cannot be faulted!
The house is exactly as described. Tranquil, excellently equipped and an idyll for a week in the sun with family.
The location is excellent for peace and quiet but there are towns and activities within a half hour drive for adventures should you get the bored of the pool.
Hosts of future holiday homes we stay in will have a lot to live up to after this trip!

You could find a nicer, more spacious, more charming, better equipped house than this. Plus the owner, Janice, is a dream to work with. She knows all the local environs - markets, points of interest, restaurants, etc. and provides a ton of information on the locale. Plus she is attentive, solicitous, and a lot of fun.
If you want the perfect holiday, in the perfect place, this is the spot for you!

A picturesque farmhouse which worked extremely well for our family group of 11. The location is very good being readily accessible to the village of Tremolat yet only a shortish drive from Bergerac airport. The nearby towns of Lalinde and Le Buget are also both well worth visiting and have good supermarkets.
Even though the accommodation is split between two adjoining buildings this did not cause us any issues whatsoever. The table in the main farmhouse was more than adequate for us all to eat indoors but most of the time we used one or other of the two large outdoor tables. Kitchens are very well provided with appliances and utensils etc
The large swimming pool was a big plus for all the family and was well used as was the table tennis table.
Whenever we had any issues Janice was very responsive in resolving these and overall was a superb host who has a wealth of knowledge of the area.
Finally, Yannick’s restaurant “next door” is an absolute must - we all had a memorable evening there with no driving involved!

Fabulous house beautifully done with everything you need for a relaxing stay. We all enjoyed staying here and being able to walk next door for a delicious dinner was a huge bonus and we went twice during the week, it is highly recommended. Great pool with lots of recliners. We all walked or some even ran in the mornings and it’s a stunning area. The village is a fair walk away for dinner so whilst we walked in for bread etc we drove down for dinner. Again lovely places to eat there too. Would definitely stay here again and Janice was very helpful with recommendations and letting us know what was happening in the area/ village so we could join in if we wanted to.

Les Volets Bleus had pretty much everything we needed, and provided an excellent base for our family of 11. Janice was an attentive and very helpful host. She has an excellent knowledge of local wines! Anything we asked for simply appeared the next day! Rooms were lovely and thoughtfully furnished. The pool was enjoyed every day. Wonderful French Farm house im La Dordogne
From our first communication with Janice everything ran smoothly. Les Volets Bleus is a authentic French Farm house, maintaining its aesthetics whilst having everything you could wish for a perfect family holiday or holiday with friends. Janice has thought of all the little details that make holidaying with friends and family enjoyable and easy!
We loved the location. Up in the hills where you feel you are surrounded by nature but only a delightful 20 min walk/5 min car drive and you are in beautiful Trémolat Pick up your bread in the morning at the boulangerie or eat at one of the 4 delightful restaurants. We were lucky enough to be there when the night market (picnic) was on. Amazing. With towns and sightseeing opportunities under 40 mins away, we enjoyed a weekly market in La Bugue, canoeing down La Dordogne and lunch in neighbouring villages. But the highlight was hanging with family and friends at the house. We had 3 children (4-10) 3 adults and 2 grandparents. We all had our own space but loved cooking in the kitchen and doing kebabs on the bbq. Eating al fresco outside, playing in the pool, having ping pong competitions and even watching the odd movie.
Janice was a delight. Getting us groceries we’d forgotten when shops were shut. Recommending and arranging us local wines that were super after an impromptu wine tasting held by Janice. Fantastic experience!!! She arranged our arrival dinner reservation as well as ensuring our booking at the next door Auberge which we highly recommend. Another unique and delicious experience. Our kids loved feeding his donkey and geese. If we needed anything Janice was there to help. I highly recommend this property and properties run by Janice. Our whole group had an amazing time. It will be a holiday we will always remember.
I only wish we could have stayed 2 weeks instead of one!

Everything that we dreamed of.
It's hard to add much to all the great reviews this property has already received and has well deserved. At the risk of repetition, it met all our needs in every way and helped make a three-generation family trip into an unforgettable experience for all of us,
Location. Location, Location. Tremolat is one of the Dordogne area's prettiest small towns. One of us made the five minute drive in every morning to pick up bread and croissants from the Boulangerie. We had dinner in the town square one evening, and on Tuesday mornings, there's a market in the square. The house itself is on an extremely quiet country road, but within relatively short drives in one direction or another to Les Ezies, Sarlat, Beynac, Domme, Monpazier, Roque de Gageac, and dozens of other wonderful places worth exploring, And don’t forget the night markets where you bring your own silverware and beverages (or buy the local wine), choose from a variety of food at the different stands ranging from oysters to foie gras to Asian summer roles, then sit at community picnic tables, and sit back and enjoy the local scene and music…..we liked the low key and mellow Audrix and the happening Beaumont markets the best.
The house is as described in the listing but better in every way. A large family, or group of families or couples can divide up in a variety of ways. We ended up with three couples and a nine-year-old child in the main house, and with four twenty-somethings in the attached “barn” where they could party as late as they wanted without bothering us, and party they did helped by lots of inexpensive local wine. The thick stone walls keep the house cool and comfortable even when it is sweltering outside. Note: even when the temperature was in the high eighties during the day, it fell into the low sixties at night.
And Janice, the owner? What can I say? She was responsive and helpful from our first inquiries to the day we left. She answered every question. She gave us some great recommendations for things to do and places to eat. She had the house prepared and ready for us in perfect order. She brought over some wine, cheese, bread, and coffee, to give us a start. She arranged for Yanick to cook an unforgettable meal for us in his next-door garden with his donkey, and cat, his geese, and Nineve, his dog, for company. Somehow, we were instant friends with her, and will no doubt see her again.
From the moment we came upon the listing we knew that all would be wonderful.

A three generation family of four children (15 to 8 years) and six adults
The Dordogne can be very hot, this summer whilst we were there it reached 40 degrees C but the combination of air-con and fans enabled everyone to sleep untroubled and eat in comfort. The pool is a generous size and the many aquatic toys and other games (darts, table tennis and boule) occupied the children when they were not on line. Three large tables (two outside on different sides of the house) enabled us to eat our meals in the most suitable location. The house is in a very quiet position surrounded by deciduous woodland, within easy walking distance of Tremolat and a short car journey from supermarkets. We have no negative points about the house, contents, location and the owners attention to making our stay enjoyable. A neighbour and friend of the owner cooked us a meal on our final night; it was excellent value and both the adults and the children some of whom make an art form out of being choosy, all agreed this to be the highlight of this or any other of our many summer stays.

Beautiful house and gardens with fabulous pool
We had a wonderful two week family holiday at Le Volets Bleu. We had a very warm welcome from Janice and she went out of her way to make sure all our needs were met. Couldn’t ask for a more caring host. The pool was a god send in the hot weather, as was the air conditioning in the bedrooms! The three generations all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we loved exploring the beautiful Dordogne.

Beautiful home, lovely setting and a magical holiday
We (a group of 10, spanning three generations) spent a magical week at this beautiful farmhouse.
The house is split into two units (house and barn) and with four teens in our party, this worked really well. We thoroughly enjoyed the large pool, and the large garden allowed us to eat together in the sunshine or shade throughout the day/evening.
The bedrooms are all nicely appointed and we were all comfortable, and the main kitchen was big enough to accommodate all of us.
We enjoyed many homemade meals as the cooking facilities, including two BBQs, are truly excellent. The gas BBQ was the best I've used and we took full advantage.
The farmhouse is in a beautiful setting with no light pollution. As a result, the stars at night are simply breathtaking. Most nights we ended up lying on the sun loungers with a glass of Montbazillac, taking in the Milky Way. Unforgettable!
Another special memory was our next door neighbour, Yanick, cooking a typical Perigourdine dinner for us. The meal was amazing, the cost reasonable and the evening was great fun.
Finally, my definition of a perfect host(ess) is someone who is welcoming, friendly, very knowledgeable of the area, who is there to help without being intrusive. Janice was exactly this...her recommendations were all perfect, from the hot air balloon ride (truly worth every Euro) to the local restaurants and, of course, Yanick. She helped make our holiday one of our very best.
Our only regret was that we didn't stay for longer!

Lovely secluded property with walks all around.
It was a year ago but still we remember it as a great family holiday for 11 of us. Plenty going on locally which meant we didn't have to travel too far to find activities. Great swimming pool, albeit a bit small. Very attentive owner who lived next door and was able to help us with planning our daily activities. A few loose connections in some of the fixtures and fittings but these were quickly repaired with little fuss!

Wonderful three generation family holiday
Les Volets bleus is just as described on the website, a dream country farmhouse with lovely grounds and a great swimming pool. Our family group of 12, covering three generations, had a wonderful week here in August 2017. The accommodation is very comfortable, attractive and the beds all luxurious. Everything was very clean, there is a very good range of kitchen equipment for cooking for 12, and a delightful choice of outside tables for eating on the different terraces during the day and in the evening. The location is quiet and scenic: it is a lovely 20 minute walk in the morning down to Tremolat to the boulangerie and a short walk past the oak plantations (this is land of truffles!) to look down on the Dordogne. Tremolat is very pretty and its restaurants widely well known- with justification.Kayaking on the Dordogne is to be recommended. Janice, the owner, was really helpful and welcoming before and during our visit and all in all this was a wonderful holiday in a lovely, comfortable farmhouse.

Beautiful, Charming, Comfortable, and Convenient
We (5 couples from the Washington, DC area) spent a fine week in this house in mid-September and had a splendid time. The accommodations were spacious and comfortable and with all the modern conveniences (including a good Wi-Fi signal throughout the house). The setting was charming with quiet rural roads past homes and farms including a walking trail into the nearby town of Tremolat (which has, among other things, a Michelin star restaurant, Le Vieux Logis, where we shared an excellent meal) and a delightful "ferme auberge", Les Truffieres, right next door (where we also shared an excellent meal). We spent our days visiting nearby towns, cities, and caves. I would be utterly remiss if I did not also credit Janice who operates the property attentively and who is an infinitely valuable resource for all knowledge of the area (and possibly for all knowledge of everything).

Outstanding month at Les Volets Bleus
Our month at Les Volets Bleus exceeded our expectations! Janice and her assistants (especially Anita and Tony who went above and beyond for us) could not have been any kinder or more accommodating. They all truly made us feel at home from day #1. The experience fit well with our quest to spend time on this earth surrounded by nice people and the goodness they bring to all.
We loved the layout which includes the separate barn. It was ideal for families as well as for those just wanting a little more privacy. The kitchen (huge) and outdoor dining was wondeful for both small and large numbers. And the pool was a big hit not only for swimmers but for a relaxing reading spot as well as for evening cocktails.
Our friends and family (all 17 of them!) who joined over the course of the 4 weeks are still gushing with praise for the home, the lovely countryside and the peacefulness of the region. We know that many of them hope to return as do we.

Les Volets Bleus is a great location, rural and quiet, but conveniently located
Les Volets Bleus is a great location, rural and quiet, but conveniently located near many of the historical and scenic sites in the Dordogne, as well as the daily markets. The house was charming and very comfortable and well-appointed for our group of eight (four couples, which at one point became10 people, five couples), with enough spaces for all to spread out and rest, read, chat. And, we enjoyed the restaurant next door and those in nearby towns, but also loved "dining in" at the farmhouse with all the fresh market goods and wine we purchased daily - it was like a party every night! An almost daily event was a walk along the farm road and over the hill to Tremalot for morning pastries and back. Usually the pastries were eaten long before we reached the house. Since we were there in October the area was quieting down from the summer rush of tourists, which we found most pleasant since most of the group lives in Hawaii, which is a year around destination for visitors. It also turned out to be the warmest October world-wide and we had the most glorious early autumn weather. We had decided to stay at Les Volets Bleus on the recommendation of friends and it did not disappoint in any way. Most of the people in the group are retired or semi-retired, but quite active, and it suited us all. For the member of the group still working who could not put her job on hold the communications provided, internet and phone, allowed her to come with us and enjoy and at the same time keep her business going. Janice, the owner and hostess extraordinaire, was nearby and when she could she joined us in market adventures and touring, and was a wealth of information and suggestions. All in all a splendid vacation spent at an outstanding property, which we have recommended to friends and which we hope to visit again ourselves.

A rare find: luxurious yet authentic, completely rural yet walkable to a delightful historic village
We have had a few holidays in the lovely Perigord Noir region and know that properties like this are to be treasured!
Utterly peaceful, well-managed, a generously equipped kitchen, luxurious bedding, perfect pool (all presented perfectly clean).. and only a 20 minute, enjoyable walk along a rural hillside path to the small but perfectly formed Tremolat. The picturesque village is home to 2 friendly boulangeries, a michelin starred restaurant & its sister bistro, another restaurant as well as small weekly fruit and meat market. If this was not enough, the farmhouse has a neighbouring Ferme Auberge which allowed to literally walk next door for a laid back feast of local produce. What happy memories of platers of food and carafes of wine being carried out to us, whilst we sat dreamily in the garden of our host!
Janice and Bill have made it their mission to create to a welcoming haven for their guests, and have succeeded.

Hidden gem close to Tremolat
We had a blissfully peaceful fortnight here. For my part, I loved walking into Tremolat to pickup amaaazing almond croissants & pain au raisin (from the new boulangerie - there are two!) most mornings before breakfast. Great way to start the day - about 20 mins each way, or 30 mins if you're stopping to look at things - and along a footpath so no traffic!
Janice (and Bill), the owners, couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful, plugging us into local knowledge and contacts, so much so that by the time we left we almost felt we lived there. We had a couple of fantastic lunches at Les Truffieres - next door, a hundred yards away - and staggered home to snooze it off in the garden. Plenty other great restaurants in the area. We liked the laid backness of the Bistrot d'en Face in Tremolat.
The beds are superb - best sleep I've had for years. The location is genuinely quiet - well well away from the main road yet doesn't feel isolated. There's another nice amble you can do from the house, along a minor road through a farm and up to a viewpoint from which you get a superb view of the Bassin Nautique and Tremolat below. One of the farm dogs insisting on 'taking us for a walk' whenever we did this, even returning to our house with us to 'drop us off'.
Wonderful house and garden. Very responsive owner. Great location - we particularly enjoyed not having to get into the car for several days at a time. We'll be back!

Lived up to its name and MUCH more!!
What an incredible find! This is true French country living with all its magic, simplicity and beauty. The setting is ideal - peaceful and tranquil, yet close enough to a fab little town with great restaurants & boulangerie for morning croissants. The house is cosy and spacious all at the same time. The outside area is perfect for lazy breakfasts and the pool is large enough to work off the additional calories :-) There is the most wonderful restaurant within walking distance - tucked away behind trees and one that you'd never ordinarily find, but guaranteed to fall in love with instantly. The 2 weeks spent here were truly magnificent! I loved it & am certain to return.

Movie Picture Perfect
You know those French arthouse movies? The ones with a lovely farmhouse and an equally charming storyline? With night markets in small towns, spontaneous folk dancing with the locals, warm balmy evenings with friends (old and new) and breakfast outside in the shade in the garden?
Those movies where we are reminded that life is best enjoyed in a simple and sincere way.....with good friends, food, wine and happy moments?
Now add to that the perfect hostess .....and you have "even-better-than-the-movie" magic!
Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!

Wonderful family time
We just enjoyed a wonderful vacation in "Les Volets Bleu" with three generations of family. The location and setup was ideal for meeting everybody's needs. The multiple bathrooms were very helpful so each family had their own space and privacy. The house is divided so one family can have their own house with complete kitchen two bedrooms and family room. The other part has 4 bedrooms, a big kitchen, and a living area. This is also convenient for kids play area while the adults have the other part of the house in the evenings. The plush linens and comfortable beds were wonderful. The kitchen is well stocked and set up for large family meals. However, we mostly ate on the patio. The whole setting is picturesque and perfect for family photo shoots. Janice the owner/hostess was delightful and entertaining. Her stories, and advice made our trip even more interesting by personalizing the whole experience and making sure we took in all the Dordogne has to offer. We had wonderful days out wine tasting, had a delicious meal at the restaurant down the driveway, and took many beautiful walks straight from our front door. Staying at "Les Volet Bleu" with Janice looking after us made for a wonderful, memorable vacation for all. Each of us hope to return soon.

Great Property
This house is ina wonderful corner of France. Theere is a Relais and Chateau hotel nearby for a Michelin blowout meal and a decent bistro. Many small towns within easy dricing distance and the owners have a comprehensive guide to whats what and where in the area. The house is very comfortable with high speed, free phone service, maps and guidebooks, English channel TV, comfortable beds and bathrooms. A notch below luxurious but should exceedd most users needs. If the owner Janice is in France she is a fountain of information and will make your stay memorable.

OUR THREE-GENERATION FAMILY LOVED LES VOLETS BLEUS
Our three-generation American family of ten from Illinois, Wisconsin, and Colorado spent the first week of July at Les Volets Bleus. All of us, including grandchildren ages 9, 7, 7, and 5, have memories that will be with us forever. Besides wanting to spend a fun week together in a great house with plenty of outdoor space and a pool, we wanted our grandchildren to become familiar with France where their parents lived when they were young. We thought the Perigord would give them a good introduction to French history and rural France. Les Volets Bleus and its location were more than we dreamed of.
The house is impeccably clean, comfortable, tastefully furnished, and beautifully restored in a manner that respects its rusticity. It is very easy to live in with the bedrooms in three separate areas in the house and barn, two kitchens with every convenience and a large table, and the salon where the two who had to work from time to time found a place to concentrate. Outside on the terrace near the grill there was enough table space for the whole family. The pool is as pristine as the photo and the grounds are spacious enough for four energetic kids to run, hide, play ball, and create new games.
The location is ideal. Tremolat is a good example of a friendly French town with the added advantage of really good restaurants. We drove through beautiful farmland and old villages to get to most of the sites that interested us. And when we finished with caves, castles, bastides, and canoes on the Dordogne we drove home to the top of the hill and peace and quiet and a great pool surrounded by nature.
You feel at home there because Janice and Bill seem to want you to feel that way in their home. The packet Janice sends is filled with information and suggestions anticipating all questions. Like others, we thoroughly enjoyed our time and unique Perigordian meal with Yannick at Les Truffieres. We thought the Bistro d’en Face on the square in Tremolat was great and appreciated being able to have four happy children when we ate at the pizza restaurant. We rented bikes from Robert Owensmith for everyone for the week, and that worked well with routes he recommended.
Thank you, Janice and Bill, for restoring beautifully and renting such an appealing French farmhouse and for making us feel so much at home.
