This was the worst VRBO experience that we have had since we started using this site over 15 years ago. I booked this property in December. This trip was our first trip to Costa Rica and we were celebrating my son's graduation from highschool and my other son's graduation from college. A month before we left, I began messasging the property owner through the VRBO website, letting him know how excited we were to come and wondering if there were better instructions to get to the property. I messaged several times and I never received a reply and began to get worried. When we got to Costa Rica, we began the long drive to the area. I attempted to call and no one answered. Once we got to the location, we began driving around narrow dirt roads looking for the property. After over an hour of hunting, we stopped at a small Sushi resturant in the area and asked for directions. The manager knew english and helped us..even getting in the car with my husband and driving around. Eventually they found the property but it was clearly not ready for guests. The person working on the property barely knew English so it was good that the restaurant manager was there to interpret. The worker gave us the number to the property manager. She told us that she did not have renters for the next 3 months as they were renovating the property. And told us we never paid. We texted her proof of payment. She apologized and said a lot of things happened to the owner throughout the year and they canceled all of the reservations for the year...except ours! So now we are stuck in a foreign country, no place to stay for 3 days, and it was getting dark! My husband was able to go on Google Maps and call around and found someone else that we could stay with for a few days. Thank goodness! We were all so disappointed we couldn't stay here. If we had known the property was unavailable in advance, we could have changed our vacation before we arrived. It really put a huge kink in our overall plans.

This is a well built property high on a hill up a dirt road outside of Montezuma. It really is not reasonably walkable into town as the road is very steep, dusty with significant traffic. The house is beautiful with wood and stucco architecture with a great open feel. It is a lovely place to relax with the pool, view, monkeys, fabulous plants, butterflies and birds. The on-site caretaker is wonderful. The place is in need of a little TLC with some evidence of dry rot, aging cushions and towels, ants infesting the dining room table and kitchen supplies that suggest the owner does not live there or doesn’t cook. A word of warning… many nights in February the howler monkeys are very loud starting about 5 am. Overall we had a great stay.

If your looking to be with one in nature then this property is for you. The property is serene and inviting. The outside of this house is the best part. Your own tropical oasis. However it does lack kitchen necessitiies. Either eat out or buy all your necessities after you arrive. It didn't bother us but i know there are people who would rather be catered to then this is not the property for you.
There is a caretaker that lives on the property Mario. He is very welcoming and is here for anything you might want within reason. We were so excited to see the monkeys come right outside in back. The pool and the flora are wonderful. Would def rent this property again.

Wonderful house with a fabulous view in a setting of fruit trees filled with howler monkeys. We thoroughly enjoyed the groundskeeper who has transformed to property into something magical. The road to the house is steep but we managed it without difficulty. We were within walking distance to the falls which was an added bonus. The only negative was that we had to leave.

We enjoyed the walk to town every morning and the view was amazing. Even the monkeys howling was a wonderful treat to the trip. The house was super clean .

One with nature
Beautiful property with nice view. It was quiet and private so good for relaxing. The house is bare bones, bring everything you need to get by. Only 2 pool chairs, so thankful our party of 4 turned out to be just the 2 of us. Mislead with description of property, but noticed its been recently changed.

Wonderful Experience
The best decision I have ever made. The house the is simply perfect. The 360 views are breathtaking. We spent a week relaxing , shopping in Montezuma , and connecting with nature. The birds and wildlife in the yard changed my kids life! There is pretty good WiFi but we went screen free and reconnected with ourselves and nature. This house is the most amazingly open and beautiful location we have ever stayed. Thanks so much for sharing your villa!

Montezuma Vacation
Great stay, house and grounds were great. One problem- the kitchen faucet leaked and the pipe which drains the sink was backed up causing the sink to fill up. I finally got a plunger and was able to get the line to drain enough so that I could wash dishes. The house could use some maintenance issues.

Paradise!
We absolutely loved our stay at Villa Prana! The property is beautiful, the beds comfortable, and the pool was the perfect temperature for daily swims. Our mornings were spent sipping coffee outside while bird watching and listening to the howler monkeys who often visited twice a day. The view from the gazebo was so special that we got to watch the howler and capuchin monkeys daily. The property keeper was also so friendly and being there you get a sense of how well he takes care of the entire grounds.
Although the kitchen was quite modest, we knew this from previous reviews and it was everything we needed without the extras. There was also no need for AC being higher up the hill and having the bedroom fans. Such a magical place!

Home away from home
We absolutely adored our time at Villa Prana and cannot wait to return! It felt like we were on our own private Mountain top with amazing views, a beautiful pool and a spacious open floor plan that flowed seamlessly. We loved the privacy and yet it was so close to town. Mario was fabulous and gave us our space yet was there with a kind smile if we needed anything. This is a one of a kind a vacation rental and we cannot wait to return and stay for a longer time next time.

Great location, amazing view and nice property.
The onsite property manager was so helpful and nice. He was available at all times and was thoughtful and really terrific. The property is lovely, but a bit rustic. The wifi is not appropriate for most work conditions but good enough to send emails and get the essentials done. I wouldn't plan on having video meetings though. This is a great place to unplug, enjoy the beautiful pool and the scenery. Very close to the waterfall, you can walk to the upper entrance easily. The road conditions at this time are in need of a 4x4, though we didn't need 4WD to get up the hill you will need the clearance of a taller vehicle going up and down into the town. I suggest bringing paper towels, there were none available, nor a broom that we could find. Either would have helped clean up some spilled coffee grinds! And of course, be aware there is no AC on the property, this was fine for sleeping in November for us, but not everyone may feel the same!

Amazing private oasis
From the giant doors opening to the huge luscious patio and pool with an ocean view, to the monkeys and birds and lizards in the beautifully curated garden surrounding the Villa, we were in awe every day and night and have never felt more relaxed. Mario the groundskeeper is an amazing and gracious host. The outdoor bathrooms are just fabulous. The beds we comfortable and you are just a short walk down a steep road to Butterfly Brewing and the Upper Falls. Was hard to leave and we hope to return someday!

Tropical Paradise
We drove into Montezuma at night in a torrential downpour. Mario was there to meet us when we arrived and helped us carry in our luggage. We had a comfortable night in cozy Villa Prana with no idea of the tropical paradise we would wake up to. The next morning when we opened the accordion doors we were blinded by the most beautiful tropical paradise I could have imagined. The layered view of mountains, ocean, beach, and rain forest was breathtaking! We were immediately immersed in the sounds of the jungle with howler monkeys, frogs and geckos serenading us and butterflies lazily flying by. The pool and patio was surrounded by gorgeous flowers with the sweetest scents gently wafting on the breeze. Bananas, mangos, papayas, and coconuts were highlights in the most beautiful tropical garden that Mario maintains. The cascading water from the jacuzzi to the pool gave the feel of luxury and relaxation. The interior of the house fit our family of 4 spaciously. It is about a 3 minute drive to the beach as the road is too steep to walk comfortably with beach gear. The beaches are gorgeous, pristine, and mostly empty. We saw wildlife every day including a troupe of howler monkeys with babies, coatis, scarlet macaws, green parrots, iguanas, geckos, and butterflies. There is so much to do in this area including great restaurants and a laid back and local vibe to the town, surfing in Mal Pais, snorkeling at Isla Tortuga, visiting Isla Cabuya (aka cemetery island), multiple wildlife preserves, and zip line tours. A highlight for us was the hike to the waterfall and swimming in the cool pools. We've enjoyed many wonderful family trips but this one stands out as truly special and Villa Prana was the best part.

Paradise
What an incredible place! We truly did not want to leave. It is such a beautiful home - we loved the open air living area, the driftwood art, the detailing of the windows, and lovely furniture. The views of the ocean are breathtaking and the landscaping around the pool is just beautiful. We were thrilled to see monkeys every day at the house. Definitely recommend having a car if you stay here - very narrow and steep road to town.

All around great stay
I can't say enough about how great this house is. It is located next to one of the main waterfalls in the area. The property has beautiful gardens surrounding the house. And the layout of the house is open,, extremely comfortable and spacious. The kitchen is modest and can be a bit challening if you cook a lot but it has everything you need to make basic meals. The bathrooms are interesting. I wasn't sure how it would feel to have them open to the outdoors. But you have plenty of privacy and they are very spacious. It turns out that it was one of my favorite parts if the house. The caretaker, Mario, is so kind and helpful. We were all very grateful to have met him. I highly recommend staying here and we hope to return soon.

Our Montezuma Paradise
This property is magnificent. The house, the landscaping and the pool were the reason for the title. Mario, the caretaker was always available to chat and ensure our needs were met. Everything was as promised in the listing and Boyan was always prompt in answering any questions before our arrival. Highly recommend this place. It is high up from the ocean which is its’ charm but a long walk down and further up. We didn’t have a car and often took a cab (c3000) up from Montezuma. Would definitely return.

Loved our stay at Villa Prana! Lots of big nature literally at your doorstep! The house and grounds are lovely and Mario does a great job maintaining all of it.

Lots of great things... some small things
Great property but had an issue with getting into the property. Apparently the owner and the caretaker where not on the same page. Showed and had to jump the fence to find Mario doing some yard work. He thought we weren't coming so the house was not completely ready. I had communicated to the owner a delay in flights so that was a disappointing start. Mario is a very pleasant guy and quickly attempted to remedy the issue but only confirmed we were the correct tenants about an hour into us being on site. It was a long travel day so this was not a great check in.
When we did get the quick rundown from Mario he informed us the pool lights and outside gazebo lights were not working and the dryer had gone out. Both of those were pretty rough for the 5 days we were there, when its dark its dark. The pool is useless without light. We ended up taking our clothes to the next Vrbo and doing them there. There is a sound system on the house but I could not get it to work, tried a few times. The welcome instructions are way out of date, a good deal of the info is wrong and the papers are pretty badly stained and used. Dishes are lacking if you plan to cook a good deal. Refrigerator has ice maker but you won't get any ice.
Other than the above the place is a gem. The outside in feel in the home is amazing. The pool is great and the landscaping is amazingly done. The wildlife is right on top of you, bring earplugs if you have issues with this. Its glamping at its best. If the small issues were resolved this place would be 5 star. We are not disappointed, the location is great and Mario is a very nice man. The small things did add up and we were somewhat disappointed but not upset.

Glamorous Glamping
What a fabulous country Costa Rica is and if you want to enjoy the privacy of your own place and let the wildlife come to you, then you can't better this villa. We awoke to the call of the howler monkeys who regularly visited the surrounding trees but kept their distance (unlike the cheeky white faced monkeys we saw in the restaurants in Montezuma). It's heavenly for any birdwatchers. Fabulous views which the photos don't do justice and lovely Mario was on hand to help with any issues. It's not what you'd call luxurious. The showers and toilets are attached to the bedrooms but outside (which I'm not keen on for those night time trips!) and there are no wine glasses (except there are now because we bought two and left them) or teaspoons or hair driers. We enjoy cooking at home and it's not equipped for anyone who wants to cook. It's very basic. I'm thinking it needs a woman's touch and a bit of maintenance and updating. Having said that, all that is unimportant (but worth being aware of before you book to avoid disappointment) when you listen to the sounds of the jungle, swim in the pool at night looking up at the stars and enjoy the pura vida that is Costa Rica. We felt very privileged to have spent time in the amazing location and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who wanted a clean and comfortable private base in a truly magical location.

Pura Vida in Villa Prana
My family of 5 had a fantastic time staying 4 nights at Villa Prana. The views were spectacular and the Villa was wonderful. The design of the home merges indoors with the outdoors. We cooked all of our breakfast meals and two of our dinners in the homes kitchen and enjoyed the beautiful and cool mornings and evenings at the outdoor dining table (there is a table inside as well). I highly recommend Villa Prana especially for those who love the outdoor.

Had a great week at Villa Prana! This is really being at one with nature.!!The villa is in a great location just out of Montezuma. The views are fantastic as is the pool. Mario who looks after the place was great too.
Be prepared to wake up with the monkeys!! Would also recommend eating at the ‘wonderland Farm Restaurant heading back out towards Cobano.

Great house, top views, friendly keeper.
The house is accurately described in the ad. Great spaces, indoor and out. Views are magnificient. House-keeper Mario super friendly.
Some things didn't work. Washdryer, some outdoor lighting (not a real problem) and some new pots and pans would be a welcome improvement. But overall the price quality was excellent! We highly recommend the place, and the Montezuma area@

Already Missing Villa Prana
We drove from San Jose into Montezuma and happy we chose Montezuma for our stay. We prefer more of a natural setting and that's what this offers. Love how secure and secluded Villa Prana was. The house is very cool architecturally and artistically . It is all open air with no AC, so adds an adventurous feel that we enjoyed. Loved all the amenities; kitchen, pool, patio, jacuzzi, seating, shower, washer/dryer etc. Really enjoyed having Mario on the property. He was super nice and helpful. Had the place looking like a park. Altogether a great stay and we hope to be back!

Amazing property in Montezuma
We loved our week's stay at this property in Montezuma. We hiked all the national parks in the region to see the wildlife but saw way more monkeys, parrots, macaws, and coati's right from our patio. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again and Mario the caretaker was always available and greeted us with a smile every day! Thank you for sharing your property!

Our Little Secret
I would like to give a bad review so we can keep this place as it is which is small and not to crowded but that would be wrong for the very good host at Villa Prana. We loved staying here at Prana was a true Costa Rican experience the grounds keeper Mario was very friendly and took good care of us. There is no AC but that was not a problem with a fan that we bought at the Market in Montazuma the night we arrived. The house comes with ceiling fans but was not quite enough to sleep under for use coming from dry west Texas. The gardens were imaculent with much wild LIFE! The monkeys were amazing this was a true jungle experience. This casa prana a wonderful adventure ,not to mention the pool with views of ocean. We spent 10 days here and still were not ready to leave .Already planning to come back in August..

Wonderful location
We had a great stay at Villa Prana. We have visited Montezuma before, but definitely plan to come back again and stay at Villa Prana. It was an ideal location with incredible views. Mario, the groundskeeper was super friendly and helpful.

Amazing place highly recommend
This property really is a gem. Beautiful all round with amazing wildlife and views. Lie in bed during the morning and watch the monkeys swinging in the trees! I would say this was the best villa we stayed during our Costa Rica tour. Mario the caretaker was brilliant and made sure our we had everything we needed. I would totally recommend this property.

Lovely open air casa in the hills
The house is even lovelier than in the photos. We had tried to stay at a nearby beach resort which was fully booked, so we booked here instead and couldn’t have been more pleased. Our stay was wonderful, the grounds are stunning, and the ocean breezes make it very comfortable even with no A/C. The property managers and groundskeeper were friendly, helpful, and readily available. We loved being so close to the monkeys in the trees around the house. The pool was also fantastic. We had a car but were able to easily walk to several activities and great restaurants. We highly recommend a stay at Villa Prana next time you visit Montezuma.

Lush open-air paradise
This property is breathtaking! We would open the large wooden doors each morning to take in the lush gardens, tranquil pool and waterfall, and breathtaking view of the coast and ocean. The beds are large and comfortable as are the sofas inside and outdoors. The kitchen was well equipped. The two open air bathrooms with gardens feel decadent. There is a washer and drier as well as a clothes line. Mario is a lovely man who tends to the security and upkeep of the property. You are a close walk to a great restaurant called Clandestina that brews their own (really good) beer- we loved their IPA. Each day we watched the monkeys play in the trees next to the patio. We would move in in a heartbeat! When we are back in Montezuma we would definitely stay here again.

Perfect place
This is an awesome house in the middle of the jungle. We saw many wild animals. It is beautifully decorated. Do not hesitate to rent it. There is a very helpful concierge living on the premises. We stayed there with 4 adults, a 4year old and a baby. We did miss a couple of things, e.g. we were stuck in a storm for 36h and did not have electricity. There was no generator and we could not cook. There were just a few candles. So no light and food. A generator or camping gas cooker would be an asset. Kitchen tools such as plated, glasses, knifes, etc were pretty scarce for us and our company. So we would advise to foresee more of this as well.

Amazing Place!
My husband and I stayed here for our 25th wedding anniversary. The views and house are incredible, the gardner was so friendly and kind, and the owners were great. It was our own private paradise.
