We had the most wonderful stay at Carmel by the Sea! The property is gorgeous and the pictures don't do it justice. The view, the wrap-around decks, the pool, the abundance of plants, the ocean breeze, everything made for a magical week. It was very tough leaving to come home. The house is beautifully decorated and furnished, and very well-appointed with whatever you need for a vacation in St John - beach towels, beach chairs, waterproof bags, snorkeling gear, sunblock, coolers. (As big music fans, we especially appreciated having both an Amazon Echo in the main living area as well as a battery-powered bluetooth speaker for listening by the pool or elsewhere.) We loved the kitchen, which was very well-stocked and had everything you could need or want (great hot sauce selection!), including a very impressive bar area. The welcome basket was a lovely touch and had a wide variety of snacks, and the fridge had a thoughtful selection of beers, sodas, seltzers, and water bottles. Our only issue (and we're likely the ones to blame) was we had a miscommunication with Chef Ted about having him cook dinner for us one night, so we were sad to miss that opportunity. This place is a hidden gem. The house, porch and pool are heavenly. The kitchen is amazing as all the reviews state.... The shower is fantastic! It's a hidden getaway close to everything. Fantastic going to bed listening to crickets and creatures and waking up to birds and nature. Property is amazingly lush with plant life. Ted is fantastic... self described as "plant crazy".... And takes pride in his work as he should! First time on St John and we will be back.... And will stay at Carmel be the Sea again!

The house and view were beautiful. Clean. Great kitchen. Stocked with everything we needed and more. Ted was a great host and very helpful. I would definitely stay again.

Perfect getaway villa for my wife and I after a hectic wedding week. Outstanding amenities, nothing extra needed to bring except your clothes. Ted is a super friendly and gracious host.

Second time staying, we like the place, just needs some repairs, chair in the living room is broken so it tips backwards and is a hazard. Garbage disposal doesn’t work. It would be helpful to have more cleaning tools for a long stay like we book. Nice place though

This home is an amazing place...true island architecture with sweeping veranda and wonderful view of Fish Bay. The kitchen is gourmet and the shower opens to an indoor enclosed garden. There were many complementary snacks, cold drinks, and a bottle of Prosecco. The owner could be a botanical garden curator...hundreds of potted indoor and outdoor tropical plants. The home is on the south shore of the island over some typical St John roads which can be challenging.

Lovely high up views. Lots of lovely outdoor space. Beautiful plants , flowers Extremely well stocked with everything needed for a beach holiday and for cooking and entertaining. Generously stocked Be prepared to drive a winding hill to go back and forth to beaches and town. We rented a jeep for the days but hired a taxi for nights

When we arrived at the property the pool was broken. We were both disappointed this was not communicated to us. One of the main reasons we rented the place was for the pool. The other major issue we had was the mattress on the bed is in desperate need of replacement, quite possibly the most uncomfortable mattress for 2 people we have ever slept on. Just be aware that this rental is in an area that is filled with bugs so you need to act accordingly. The owner did a great job stocking the unit with snacks and coffee and even a full bar. We love St. John so we made the best of it.

Ted’s beautiful home was a great escape from the freezing cold weather in Atlanta Georgia. We were met by his team at the car ferry greeted with a great welcome basket on our arrival and provided everything we needed for our getaway to enjoy beautiful St. John! Ted is a kind, warm host and we enjoyed our stay.!

Ted is a chef and as a result has the best stocked kitchen of any house we have ever rented. (My husband is also a chef). The house is much nicer than the pics convey. Linen sheets. Very quiet and relaxing

This rental was absolutely perfect for our 5 night stay on St. John. My husband and I loved the location - it was far enough away from the business of Cruz Bay but also easy enough to get to grocery stores and restaurants. The property was better than expected - so clean, so spacious, so relaxing. We actually ended up cooking 3 nights because it was so well stocked with great cooking equipment, oils, and spices (a rarity with rentals!). Check in was a breeze and there was even a wonderful welcome basket with snacks for us. We will absolutely stay here any time we return to St. John!

From the minute we pulled up we fell in love with the property. The lush gardens made it feel like your own private sanctuary. The outside balcony and pool area had great seating options and a beautiful view. The kitchen came well stocked with supplies and unexpected treats to make you feel at home. Ted also had everything at the house for your outdoor beach excursions which was so helpful. Our one complaint was that the mosquitos in the outdoor shower & bathroom were very bad. You needed to apply bug spray each time you entered the bathroom and we tried to keep the door shut at all times since there was not a screen to prevent them from coming into the bedroom. Overall, we had a wonderful much needed escape from our busy lives on the mainland.

We recently stayed in Ted's spacious and comfortable apartment/home for five nights. We winkle every morning to bird song and the sounds of frogs and crickets. The apartment has a large well stocked kitchen and enjoyed preparing some of our own meals. The bathroom is indoor/outdoor and the out of town location provides privacy and quiet!

Ted the host was gracious and friendly and has made the home a tropical oasis with numerous potted plants both inside and out that make it feel inviting. He has an excellent welcoming basket with food and wine which was much appreciated after a long travel day. The owner is a chef and his kitchen has everything that could be needed for those interested in creating their own Caribbean meals. He has numerous spices, oils, coffee, tea, etc... that again make your transition easy and also your grocery time and expense reduced. The view from the house and patio are relaxing looking over the surf in Fish Bay and the surrounding tropical mountain sides. The house is easy to get to and the roads are all paved and in good condition which often isn't the case at some rentals on St. John. We wouldn't hesitate to stay our next time in St. John.

Carmel by the Sea is just gorgeous. We loved the huge profusion of potted tropical plants everywhere - especially in the lovely bathroom courtyard, but also around the front door, on the deck, etc. The views are fantastic - with plenty of spots to sit and enjoy it. And the house is charmingly decorated and feels cozy and homey. The location is great too - not too far from Cruz Bay, but enough off the beaten path to feel peaceful and secluded.

Ted's a wonderful host and his place is simply amazing. The setting is peaceful, the view is beautiful, and the home is modern and furnished with absolutely everything you could ever need for your stay. By far the best appointed rental we've ever stayed in. Ted was even nice enough to personally pick us up from the ferry, walk us through the house, and drive us back into town the next morning to collect our rental car. We only wish we would have planned ahead and been able to book him for one of his private dinners. Next time...

Wonderful location on the island if you are looking for a secluded spot. House is more than expected with a well equipped kitchen and gear for a day at the beach. Thanks for meeting us at the dock to guide us to the location. The roads were challenging for folks like us who live in the flatlands of Oklahoma.

We were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and never really had a real honeymoon. Ted’s home was the perfect Oasis and far exceeded our expectations. The views are spectacular from every room and outside. The house is very well appointed, comfortable clean, and had everything g we needed. The pool deck area is like a separate little oasis too and has the best view. There was alway a gentle breeze and even in late June we were perfectly comfortable. Loved watching the bananakeets and geckos roam the property and coexist with us. Outdoor lanterns come on magically at night and add to the ambiance. Hanna was amazing all around and especially in helping us get to the house and rescuing us after an issue with our car. While you didn’t know Ted was there, when we did meet him, he was lovely, and very helpful. Wish we could have done the supper club. The driveway is an issue but we just parked at the top. We will definitely be back!

I usually don’t write reviews for anything so it says a lot I’m writing this.. The views are absolutely amazing and Ted is very friendly! I loved how they walked us through the house and showed us everything. It is hard to get up to the house but that’s the only issue. Just have to get used to island driving because it is much different if you’re from the States. Overall though great stay! Just make sure you keep the screen doors shut because of mosquitoes!

I was pretty happy with our stay overall. We got lucky and managed to get a last minute trip in and Ted’s home was a great place to stay. Really loved the tropical feel of the home and all the plants and flowers around. The pool and deck area were nice after a long day as well. Just a heads up, the driveway is a little steep and I didn’t feel comfortable parking in it with the rental car we ended up with but if you have a 4x4 jeep it would be no problem. Overall, would stay here again and Ted seemed like a really nice guy as well. I wish we’d have taken advantage of his cooking one night!

WOW! I don't even know where to start. My husband and I had the absolute best time on St. John, and a lot of that can be accredited to our stay at Ted's villa. From the second we walked in, we were instantly at ease - hearing nothing but birds and windchimes. The details of the home were beautiful and unique. You can tell that Ted goes above and beyond for his guests. He left us a large (unexpected!) variety of snacks, fresh fruit, water, beer, and a bottle of prosecco. Not to mention the fully stocked bar and coffee ready for our use! This was such a special touch and allowed us to settle right into honeymoon-mode, instead of rushing off to the grocery store to gather some essentials. We loved that there were also plenty of towels and beach gear for our use. Based off of past reviews, I reached out to Ted to see if he'd be available to cook a private dinner for us one night. If you have the chance - DO IT! My husband and I are still obsessing over this and it was definitely a highlight of our trip. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. By far the best rental experience we've ever had!

We had a wonderful week! The house is beautiful and well-appointed with a full-service kitchen. It is situated in quiet Fish Bay and has beautiful views from the living room and patio.

Beautiful one of a kind home on the edge of the National Park. Lots of room for two people. The clean, perfect temperature pool is a plus with a view of the bay and the ocean. Very quiet and relaxing. All you hear are birds and windchimes. Complete privacy. The owner is very friendly and offers extra unexpected fruit and snacks, bottle of Prosecco, flowers upon arrival. You will not even realize he lives below you as the house is made of stone and he never interrupts your stay. Kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. It’s a bit of a challenge to drive here but that’s true of all of St John . So don't let that stop you. The property contact person, Hannah, will answer all your questions. I highly recommend this comfortable, clean, spacious home. I wish I could stay longer. It is top, top, top!

Luscious plants all around, tastefully furnished, chef's kitchen, abundantly stocked bar, a splendid view and complete privacy made our ten days a perfect vacation at Carmel by the Sea. Ted, who lives downstairs, was always available when needed but otherwise, completely invisible. We enjoyed our deck and its refreshing small pool many an afternoon. Just two minor quibbles: the driveway can be daunting at first (very steep and rutted) and the mosquito netting over the four poster bed was the wrong size (too small). We would come back in a heartbeat!

We loved our stay in St. John at Ted’s home. We spent a lot of time at the house just hanging out, enjoying the scenery and taking advantage of the great kitchen ! Ted was very accommodating for our arrival on Xmas day taking care of dinner and driving us into town when all the rental car locations were closed. Thanks for everything!
