This is a great place to stay. We loved the house (it's really as perfect as it sounds) and the location and the description is accurate. I will note that in our July stay there were a significant amount of jellyfish in the water, which prevented a lot of swimming, but that is par for the course for the Chesapeake I believe. We LOVED kayaking around the backwaters and there was a lot to explore. If you are looking for a quiet place to spend time as a family, this is your place. My only recommendation would be to have some sort of "book" with info about the house and posting wifi codes physically somewhere in the house. Would have made it easier to figure things out upon arrival and having all info in one place would be easier.

The Hideaway at Hayes beach is perfectly situated to enjoy the outdoor offerings. The backyard is lovely and has everything you need to relax and be outside. We saw all sorts of birds, a fox, skinks and little frogs. The kids loved it. What a wonderful, relaxing week.

This property was absolutely beautiful. It is located in a very remote area down a dirt road. There are just enough neighbors that you don’t feel alone but you basically have the beach to yourself. The landscaping is gorgeous. There’s a feeling of being outdoors while you are indoors. I could wake bathed in the sunlight coming into this home every single day for the rest of my life. You can see the bay from the front of the house and gorgeous marsh area in the rear of the yard.
The hosts thought of everything you could possibly need. There’s everything from a toddler potty seat to doggy poo bags! The game shed was so much fun and is air conditioned. There are more games in the house.
The beds were very cozy which was nice after a long drive.
Jocelyn was very kind and communicative. I traveled alone with my children to celebrate the memory of my late husband. I was nervous and overwhelmed but this property and Jocelyn made it so stress free and helped me create beautiful memories with my children.

We had a fantastic stay. The house is fully stocked with everything you may need and more. Quick stroll to the beach. I must dint want anyone to know about this as I don’t want this little slice of heaven overrun with guests.

This was our second stay at the Hideaway. We have come to love Hays Beach like a second home. The backyard is beautiful and feels like stepping into a private park. When the sun got a little hot, we spent time hanging out in the sunroom, which also became our bird-watching spot in the evening. We have already started planning for our next trip to this stunning property.

I booked the Hideaway last minute and was the best decision! The home is VERY clean and well stocked. The game room and beach toys/kayaks were perfect for our short stay! We had the best time hanging out at the firepit roasting marshmallows! We will definitely book again when we return!

A quiet get-away in a delightful bungalow with all the comforts of home, and more! It has a sunroom to enjoy morning coffee and nightly cocktails. The outdoor space, is by far, the best we've encountered so far with a stand-alone game room and lounge area, two fire pits (wood and gas), seating galore to bird watch or enjoy a night of stargazing. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the trimmings like spices, and foil, etc. Such an enjoyable stay and a fine respite from the daily grind. Hoping to be back soon!

This was the first trip we have taken our 6 month puppy on. He enjoyed every second of it, and so did we. The house has everything you could ever need, and more!
Jocelyn was a great help in providing us with recommendations and really help make the trip something special.

The house is perfect for family or a small group of friends. It’s very loving furnished and decorated. The kitchen has everything and beyond. The backyard is a true jewel. It has enough space to have a small sunset party (the vistas are stunning) or have some activities with kids. The sea shore is just a short walk away. We loved every bit of our stay.

Two words to describe the Hideaway at Hays Beach = magical and thoughtful. I love the Chesapeake Bay and have rented many homes on both sides of the Bay over the years. The Hideaway is my favorite. It is cozy and comfortable and very nicely decorated. The seasonal decor was adorable too. The location was incredible. I love a place where I can see the stars in that way that almost makes it seem like you can touch them. The beach was close and amazing and we did hunt some sea glass, which is my absolute favorite thing to do. The backyard is amazing. One of my friends called it an "oasis" and it truly is. But what I loved most about this rental was the thoughtful touches. Anything we could want was there and many things we didn't know we wanted until we saw it. The smore's station, the many throw blankets, the stocked kitchen, the fire pits, the incredibly comfortable beds, the access to Netflix -- just all of it. Simply perfect. And the communication with the owners was also amazing! They gave us great restaurant recommendations and answered any questions we had practically immediately. This was an amazing girls' weekend away to celebrate my birthday and we had the best time. Every single person on the trip wanted to stay longer and we've already decided this will be an annual event. Thank you for putting together such a truly special place.

Our dog, Rio, told us this was the best vacation of his life. It is the perfect beach house and beach for a family and dog who loves the water. We have never been to such a quiet and secluded beach. The house was spotless and we wanted to nothing. The hosts were in regular contact and made sure we had everything we needed. We will be back.

My family and I had the most amazing time at the Hideaway at Hayes Beach. This is by far one of the nicest vacation rentals we have ever stayed in. The setting is so picturesque and the private beach community is great. Jocelyn has taken care of every detail inside and outside the home going above and beyond to provide all the amenities to her guests. We could not have had a better time at the Hideaway at Hays Beach! It can be difficult to coordinate beach trips with little ones, especially with some of us coming from far away, but the Copelands had made sure the house was ready to go with everything we could need.
More than that, the house really did feel like a home for our week trip there. The small touches throughout made it easy to arrive, settle in, and relax. Jocelyn was kind and incredibly responsive through our trip, and she helped make our 4th of July celebrations all the more special! We can't wait to visit again.

We had a great stay here for the weekend despite iffy weather. The owners have thought of everything-s’mores station and fire pit, gameroom fun for kids and adults, lovely access to beach and walking. My sister and I brought our families for Easter weekend at the Hideaway and had a wonderful time! House is cute, cozy, and clean. We really appreciated how well-stocked it was with everything we needed - and we made use of the supplies for eating crabs and making s'mores. We had several chilly, windy days so the sunroom, game room and fire pit really made it a nice place to be. Once the sun came out, the beach and kayaking were great. Teens & little kids all loved it. Jocelyn was a great host - very kind and immediately responsive.

Warning, Long Post: From the pictures, to their detailed website, the location and the communications, I sensed we were in for a nice getaway. What we got was an amazingly WONDERFUL time. Always opting for hotels, this was my 1st VRBO experience in the states and 2nd overall. If this type of property and the owners were guaranteed for every getaway, I would hesitate return to hotel lodgings.
The location was perfect for our (mother, sister niece, nephew, pup & myself) week long holiday retreat from the city. The sunset AND sunrise views were spectacular. No need to leave the cottage to view them. But if /when you did...WOW.
The cottage is a home not just a property. You felt the love throughout. No need to leave the property unless you want to stroll along the private beach to enjoy the tranquility.
The staging was perfect with cozy seating and multiple seating areas for activities, resting or working. The sunroom was equipped with an electric "fireplace" heater, fully stocked game chest and table for dining. Even though we did not visit during crab season, it was stocked with paper to crack and eat crabs on the table. (No detail missed)
The livingroom/dining room areas had comfortable seating for conversations, reading, tv watching or just enjoying the space.
The kitchen was fully equipped. We were welcomed with delicious cookies made just for the Hideaway. There was a coffee/tea/cocoa bar that is also equipped with items to make adult beverages.
The bathrooms were perfect and everything you would possible need. The bedrooms were staged beautifully and were extremely comfortable. If you chose to stay in the room the entire time, you could. The beds were like a hug with bedding that was soft, warm and cozy.
We got very lucky with the weather during our post Christmas/Pre New Year getaway so we made smores in the large backyard at sunset by using one of the 2 fire pits and the cottage's "Smores Caddy".
Jocelyn the owner, was the epitome of a gracious host. She had to ability to make us feel welcomed and comfortable while being attuned to our needs without actually being there. From creating the perfect space to the communications regarding things to do in the area, she has definitely set the bar on VRBO lodging.
My sister and I hope to return with our husbands & families this summer to experience kayaking, crabbing, being lazy on the private beach or making more smores at sunset.

I have stayed at many VRBO properties but this one was exceptional in every way. There was not one thing I at the home that was not top of the line and no amenity was missed. The home was immaculate inside and out and the location with beach access was fantastic . Great property in every way , did not want to leave.

My husband and I stayed at the Hideaway for 5 weeks and had multiple friends come and visit for a few days at a time. It was better than we could have ever imagined…..comfortable, beautiful, and soooo relaxing! The cottage, both inside and out, has everything you would need and more. Owner Jocelyn will give you so many things to see and do I the area! We are returning next year to relax and enjoy the Chesapeake Bay!

This is our 3rd time visiting this area but the first time staying in this house. It has everything you would need for a short beach getaway (beach supplies, firepit, grill, crabbing supplies, kayaks, and SUP board, etc.). Communication with the property owner was great and she provided us with a lot of tips and suggestions. The landscaping around the house was beautiful and was the perfect amount of space for our dog to play in. We would definitely reserve again!

Such a lovely property, close to the bay. The owners have created a really special getaway, and took great care to create an experience at this home. Introduced our friends to the local crabbing experience, woke up with the sunrise over the water, enjoyed family dinners and s’mores for breakfast:), brought back a fantastic spread from Courtney’s (worth the quick travel and detour from the house), and found the kayaks to be the perfect remedy to the jellies. We had a hiccup with the Internet being down because of a storm and the owner put much care and time into fixing for our stay. Hope to return!

Fantastic vacation home!

Great Vacation
We had a very memorable vacation at the Hideaway in Hays Beach. This is a little gem that exceeds expectations. You can't run out of things to do. Less than a 5 minute walk from this home, is a lovely beach on the Bay. There are kayaks, crabbing and fishing opportunities. The owner is generous with advice and eager to help make your vacation perfect. The house is beautifully decorated in classic beach style. The kitchen is fully stocked with equipment for any cooking project. There is plenty of reading material for adults and a beautiful selection of books for kids.

Beautiful & Serene; Problems w/rental rate
The Hideaway was the loveliest rental we've stayed in. Jocelyn and her husband decorated the house beautifully, the kitchen features everything a cook could want (and more ) and the beds were really comfortable. The house is tucked away on the St Mary's Peninsula and is so peaceful. I fell asleep to frog song. There were even cute & scrumptious little cookies to welcome us--and stuff to make smores! The only issue, unfortunately, is a discrepancy over the cost. We booked and were confirmed at one rate, only to receive an unexpected email from VRBO the next day saying that the online price was incorrect and please pay them additional $$$. The hosts state that the problem is w/the VRBO platform; VRBO, unsurprisingly, responded that the hosts set the rate and it's not their fault. Sooooo....an irritating, time-consuming blemish on an otherwise perfect stay. My bet is that VRBO screwed up, but their customer service is impossible to get through to and online is frustrating.

Sophisticated Chesapeake Beach Cottage
My husband and I stayed for five days and had a wonderful time! The cottage was extremely attractive and comfortable. In fact, we took a lot of inspiration from the interior for our own home. Being steps away from a lovely beach on the bay, and a beautiful wetland creek gave us great opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. The hosts were very available for any questions. Can’t wait to book again!

Serenity Now
I searched for a tranquil place to regenerate and found it at Hays Beach. The house is lovely and fully appointed (I would have packed a lot less had I known). My grandchildren were excited about the trip and when we arrived they were not disappointed; they loved the house, the game room, bicycles, fire pit, and exploring everywhere. The solitude was much welcomed.
The host is amazing, thoughtful, responsive, and kind. I am particular when spending money and the Hideaway is as close to earthly perfection as possible. Looking for dates to return asap.

Simply, the best
Everything from start to finish was perfection. Our hosts were incredible. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect throughout our entire stay. Their home and amenities were a dream. The property has everything one would need for a getaway. Steps away from the beach, huge backyard, game room, etc. We wish we had more time. We will return ASAP! I highly suggest to book this property if you are reading my review. I cannot send enough praise. It felt like home. They even sent a very thoughtful delivery gift in the middle of our stay. We cannot thank them enough for being the best hosts ever!

Christmas Vacation
We’re from Florida and decided to make the drive up with our kids to spend Christmas with our husbands. The drive was well worth it to be able to relax in such a homey setting. We have young children so having the house already decorated for Christmas made the experience much more magical for them, as well as the fireplace for Santa. Jocelyn was so thoughtful and left Santa cookies for us to put out with a really cute story book which makes for a great momento from our trip! The house was extremely clean and accommodated us perfectly. If I could give 10 stars I would, and would love to book this again in the future!
