The guest lounge was nice to use. The bedroom was clean and the bed was comfortable. Use of the locked car park was a big help.

The decoration is a little tired and in need of some updating. The gate to the underground car park was so heavy that I could not open it !

The room was spacious and nicely decorated, but the bathroom was quite drab. Nice balcony area with table & chairs. Huge bed which was comfy. Great tea & coffee facilities + bottle of water. Ideal location for The Cheese & Grain venue.

FOOD!! My meal was awful! I chose the meal from it's beautiful description on the menu but was served a disgrace! A very bog standard and disappointing chicken & chips dish, which had clearly been under the hot plate for some time. Extremely dry and completely tasteless.. the "dressed leaves" were a handful of wilted warm salad greens with NO dressing. I could not eat it and at £15.75 felt I had to complain! After an initial, and completely unnecessary exchange of words between the waiter and my friend, who was merely asking if the "leaves looked dressed " ... the waiter asked me "do you want some dressing!?" to which I replied "yes please" He took my plate and returned it with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar on said leaves. Then, when I tasted the chicken, I decided that this was not at all acceptable or indeed edible. My husband asked for a refund which we were promptly given. The waiter then offered me something on the house, which I very much appreciated and asked for a ham & tomato sandwich... which was very nice. Overall I didn't find the staff to be very pleasant, and didn't see any of them smile! I did get an explanation of it being very busy and presumably short staffed, and whilst I can appreciate these circumstances in many work places, especially hospitality, it should not be my concern or made apparent to me as a guest!

Great secure car parking, the Breakfast was excellent with a good choice, the town centre location was ideal for our needs.

Staff behind the bar in the evening were quite rude, practically the male who seemed to be in charge, this was when informing us the kitchen was closed, which was before taking our plates away from the main course which its self took an age, how you can sit down for a booked meal at 7.30 and not have time for a desert before the kitchen closing says a lot about the service.

Slowness of serving staff

We have stayed at the George a few times now and the rooms are comfortable and the staff very keen to help. The breakfast is great and the hotel provides good food in the evening so no need to go searching for anything.

I like the hotel, they keep good beer, the rooms are good, the food is good, the staff are helpful and polite and the location is good.

Bathroom in need of decorating, unpainted shelf below sink, sink plug and shower trap dirty, mould spots on ceiling. Breakfast host seemed very miserable, also cold baked beans, bacon and sausage not cooked enough (personal choice) , sour tasting hollandaise sauce on eggs benedict.

shower head slot in room 3 is broken, also shower took ages to drain, needs a plug clean. the brekkjie was a bit small. also none of the non-terrestrial channels on the tv worked - dont show netflix, now, amazon etc on the tv home page if you cant actually watch any of them

The room was at the front with 3 windows and we had a lot of traffic noise. Also the en suite was rather cramped. Lots of stairs up and down to get to the room with NO lift!
