Very close to the centre of Franz Josef but in a quiet location off the road. Very private cottage and beautifully clean. Spacious rooms and a lovely verandah to see the mountains.

No breakfast was offered. We were totally on our own - one of two cottages at property.
No clearly visible sign of the property - difficult to find in the dark.
Most upset at lack of accessibility to owner - tried to phone and sent email to him - and to Expedia - REQUESTING THE PASSWORD FOR WIFI. NEVER RECEIVED AND NOT ABLE TO USE IMPORTANT INTERNET DURING THE STAY.
Same situation for the couple in the other cottage - they requested password 3 times like us with no response.
There ws a private home near our cottages, not sure if owner was there, but NO ATTEMPT WHATSOEVER TO ASK IF EVERYTHING ALRIGHT DURING THE STAY.

Spacious cottage for a couple, very clean and tidy. The Wi-Fi connection is great. Only a short drive to shops. We love the view!
This is our oversight. We didn't notice some of the windows did not have fly screens so by the night there were bugs everywhere, would be nice to have insects spray at the house, no big deal.

Clean simple and modern cottage with separate bedroom, kitchenette, comfortable lounge area and outdoor deck with views of the mountains. Had everything we needed for a great overnight stay.
It’s close to the road so some traffic noise (but hardly any passing cars overnight)

Would have been nice to have some milk in the fridge for a cup of tea. Some other bits and pieces would have just enhanced a good stay like some paper towel, oil and adequate dishwashing liquid.

Comfortable, spotlessly clean, spacious accommodation with beautiful mountain views from the seating area out side the chalet.
We knew the accommodation was outside Franz Josef but it was quite hard to locate as the road sign was so small and there were only two cottages on the site. There were quite a few do's and dont's from the owners who live on a working farm. Together with a self check-in, it sadly made the accommodation feel a bit soulless. But totally understand this may suit lots of other guests.

loved the location and the snow capped mountains as the backdrop. a pity that the wifi wasn’t working when we were there, otherwise it’s great! near to most of the places to visit in the area.

The rural location was superb with views to the Franz Josef Glacier. We were so glad we stayed out of town. Although it's an excellent town with supermarket, cafes and facilities we enjoyed the rural surrounds of Te Awa Cottages. They felt homey, warm and comfortable with everything we needed to explore the region including maps. We enjoyed sitting on the the wide veranda, watching the sun set over the mountains and the night sky. It was one of our favourite places we stayed and we'd love to come back one day.

No iron or ironing board. Only 4 coat hangers so had to use clothes drying rack. Toilet brush very yucky.

Comfy bedroom and living room. Location not central but only 2 mins drive so very easy given we had a car. the views would have been nice but the weather was quite rainy - c'est la vie!
The bathroom was a bit small for the quality of accommodation. No sign of the hosts at all over the 2 days.

Two adjoining rooms with a nice ensuite bathroom and comfortable bedroom in a cottage which was in a good condition. Nice veranda and view.
Not suitable for more than two people because the bathroom is accessible only from the bedroom and the sofa bed in the living room squeaky and uncomfortable. No Netflix on TV. The owners discouraged any contact because of their work and family responsibilities.

Great view. Well set up for a couple with a car. Communicative and helpful owners.
Not really suitable for a family of 4. The only bathroom is ensuite, and the other beds are a fold out couch or fold out bed.

Love it to the max. The view from the room is magnificient. One of the best place I have visited , if theee be any chances to come back to Fran Josef, will definitely choose to stay here
