Joel, the host was delightful , so were the staff. The rooms were charming, the food was good, the pools gorgeous, yoga was fabulous , massages excellent, and they arranged some wonderful outings for us. it was a beautiful stay

None of the rooms had kettles or tea/ coffee making facilities or fridges. That was really disappointing and for the price I would have expected that . There were no complimentary international adapters, only one set of towels , and the bed heads were pulled almost a meter away from the wall , no where to lean against and your pillows fell over. The furniture was awkwardly positioned , side tables not beside the bed and ceiling fan didn’t work. Just odd details that dragged down the overall experience of this gorgeous place .

Breakfast was good and staff amenable to variations of offerings.

Could not understand why some days when the room was straightened up/cleaned we were not provided clean large towels. Sometimes the wet towels were left in the room, but no dry ones were provided. Other times the wet towels were removed bu no new dry ones were provided.

Lovely location, property has beautiful views. All the staff are very friendly and the place has a lovely ethos. We enjoyed our welcome foot massage and lots of nice little touches in the room such as fresh fruit and a petal welcome message. The food was also excellent and we did a rice field walk with one of the staff which we really enjoyed.

We weren’t keen on our room (Mt. Agung 4) which was on the ground floor. You can hear the noise from the room above and it’s also a little bit dark and damp, rather than light and airy. The wet weather probably didn’t help add to it. It would also be good to know what the daily activities are as well as for example yoga isn’t daily so we missed it. However overall we would still definitely recommend staying here, but ask for a different room next time!

Most everything. While some might not like being somewhat remote, we LOVED it. The facilities and staff were exceptional.

Our only complaint would be the cats in the restaurant begging while we were eating.

Stunning setting and wonderful balance between luxury, relaxation, balinese culture and great service. A very special place!

The Surya Shanti is one of the most beautiful retreats I’ve ever stayed at and even extended our stay 3 times as just didn’t want to leave!! The owners Joel and Sylvie really make you feel at home and the staff are simply exceptional. Everything about this place - the rooms, food, facilities (with an “amazing massage” by the river) is just top and highly recommended. Looking forward to our next stay and thanks again for a very special and welcoming stay.

Sylvie and Joel were very accommodating hosts. We were greeted warmly with a cool drink, fresh face towels and a foot massage was organised. Located in the rice plantations of Sideman, Surya Shanti is a beautiful resort boasting 2 beautiful pools with 10 villas. Each villa is named after a Hindu deity. Ours was Hanoman and overlooked the countryside of Sideman. Joel and staff were able to organise scooters, day trips and recommended many hidden local gems. Included in our stay was a yoga session which was a peaceful experience in the morning overlooking the beautiful view. As a Christmas gift, our hosts organised a beautiful wooden Buddha with our names engraved. Surya Shanti exceeded our expectations and will be missed!

Whilst the breakfast menu was fantastic with an option of either American, continental or Indonesian breakfast - the a la carte menu for lunch and dinner did not include too many options. We chose instead to dine in local restaurants that had many Balinese dishes to try.

if you come across this review absolutely do not skip! the property is absolutely stunning - pictures do not do it justice. it is set in such a beautiful non-touristic location the owners - Joel and Sylvie - are what really made the stay above and beyond. I was a solo traveler over Christmas and they made me feel very welcome and were extremely inclusive - from Christmas Eve dinner, to tour around sidemen, and so much more. The couple really makes the place special and it is unlikely that you will find this anywhere else. Absolutely do not skip staying at this property! it is a must do when traveling to Bali (as well as the area around sidemen)

Thoroughly enjoyed my rejuvenating stay in this gorgeous setting. The lovely hosts went out of their way to make me feel welcome and even organised an extra yoga class on request. Best banana pancakes in Bali with fantastic homemade jams! The sunset view....just spectacular.

This place is magical! We stayed here for a couple of nights with our two small kids and had the most amazing stay. The entire hotel is so beautifully decorated and set in the middle of the rice fields, it is a true authentic - but luxury - Bali experience. The owners and staff are super friendly and make sure all guests are happy and feel at home. They even looked after of our little baby while we were enjoying one of their yoga classes. We were told you can do some very nice hikes as well, but actually we didn't leave the property as everything there was so nice (the swimming pools, the restaurant, the massages, the yoga class...). A good reason to come back!

having stayed in a lot of places in Bali over the years I felt this was too pricey the way the deluxe villa was set up was not practical

Beautiful, well thought out, private and luxurious! such a relaxing stay and the staff and owners were so lovely and welcoming. Highly recommend and hope to come back again.

Loved the overall concept and design of the place. We traveled all over Bali, and this was THE place my husband and I felt the most calm and serene environment. Coupled with the lovely staff and wonderful owner, Mr Joel who was ever so kind and gracious - he made our honeymoon feel so special. What an amazing welcome and feeling of genuine warmth by everyone at Surya Shanti. Definitely come here if you're looking to escape...forget Ubud, come to Sidemen!

I didn't like the steps up during the night...not too bad, but we were quite unfit. Not the places' fault.

Gorgeous views, really tasteful furniture and styling. Great mosquito net. Food and cocktails at the restaurant were good. Staff quick on WhatsApp with organising transport. Lovely terrace area above the mountain-side pool.

Unfortunately, the photos look better than what you get — the place feels a little unloved (maybe partly because the hotel was very quiet during our stay, except for one French tour group). Cobwebs, water damage, cracked walls and seals, insect larvae, etc. Several bugs and large geckos inside the room (which is normal in Sidemen) but the fresh fruit and fresh flowers in guests rooms, however pretty, worsened the problem. The pebble floor of the shower was also very uncomfortable to stand on, and some modern shower products would have been a nice touch. Although it was a good experience overall, these drawbacks made me feel like we overpaid (priced for the quality of the views and the traditional aesthetic, not the quality/comfort of the hotel).

The atmosphere in this residency is very special. Leaded by amazing french owners the whole team of this resort is extremely hospitable and communicative. Every single person of the staff is trying to make your stay as pleasant as possible. We felt a positive energy like nowhere else. For a distressing getaway this place is perfect. Besides that it is a very interesting experience. The facilities are perfect to totally become relaxed and still amusing. The yoga classes, the trekking in the stunning nature in the region of Sidemen, the beautiful infinity pools, the spa, the delicious restaurant etc. are all at a very high level. This company is an oiled machine to create happiness for their guests.

Surya Shanti is a stunningly beautiful boutique resort in Sidemen. I’ve never felt more welcome at a hotel in my life. For me, this is the best hotel experience I’ve had in my life and I’ve been to many resorts i.e. Four Seaons. Their attention to detail, personal approach and lovely family like staff creates and warm atmosphere that makes you feel at home. Ketut & Dede were great tour guides and the massages were very relaxing as it was next to the river. Joel, owner, arranged a special Balinese dance and a visit to the ceremony at the temple for the guests to get a taste of Balinese culture. Thank you for an amazing stay and I’ll see you soon!

Amazing view, nice spacious room, very warm welcome by the team, good swimming pools, nice restaurant and good activities. We booked two extra nights because we didnt want to leave! I would definitely recommend to stay here
