The hotel is at a fantastic location with impressive view from the big windows of our well appointed room. The room was spacious, tastefully furnished and clean. The wellness area is beautiful with views of the winter wonderland. The hotel staff is attentive and very friendly. I received a birthday brownie as special surprise :-) There are many hiking trails in the vicinity, it’s very close to the mountain top, yet easily accessible by car.

I missed coffee & tea making option in the room, which would have been handy in view of the snow storm outside and only one available restaurant in the property. Wifi in the top floor room was a bit patchy.

please improve speed at check-in and check-out. If rooms aren´t available before 15:00 but customers arrive before, please proceed the check-in formalities and address the room and the keys when rooms are available - it would reduce long queeing after 15:00. Last but not least, we are recurring customers and always have to ask for our company details for invoicing - please save information. Wifi connection is also very slow.

That was an excellent short stay in Appenzeller mountains. The hotel's location is perfect - in the same building as Santis-Schwebebahn cable car valley station and with magnificent views of the mountain itself. Though the rooms are very functional, they are modern, fresh and quite spacious. Breakfast choice is not wide, but sufficient and features lots of local produce - cheeses, butter, apple juice etc. Lunch/ dinner menu is nice and the quality of food is reliably good whatever you order.

TV in our room was not working, but who needs it if you have such views through your window :-)

Fabulous Location right at the base of the gondola. The views at the top in all the snow were breathing. As a hotel guest, you get a cheaper ticket. Wonderful view of the Säntis from my room. Hiking areas next to the hotel, were all marked and groomed in the snow. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Lovely spa. Staff friendly and helpful.

End of March, my room was very hot, even with the windows open as it faced the mountain and the sun. The price you pay for a mountain facing view.

The mountains & hotel

The service in the restaurant at lunch was unfriendly. We were asked what we wanted when stepping in the restaurant?! For dinner it was instead lovely. The whole team was very friendly. The food was quite heavy though (cordon bleu).

The location and room were good.

The door key would lose it's magnetic identification after twenty minutes completely away from any electronics. After being stuck out of the room for an hour at 11pm in pajamas, the night clerk finally made his way to resolve the issue. I’m not sure if he didn’t speak any English or if he was just being intentionally difficult, but after attempting to explain to him with every conceivable charade gestures for ten minutes my partner used the same phrase from the beginning and immediately comprehended. He insisted that you couldn’t check out for another 12 hours, as if that is something people do in the middle of the night on a mountain 30 minutes from town. Maybe it’s also Swiss custom to walk up into 6 inches of your face and stare at you, but it didn’t happen at any other time in this country. This also goes for starring and sighing with impertinence for an additional 10 minutes. One of the two key cards only worked and he specifically gave me the one that didn’t. I say this because as I attempted to take the both that he handed me, he clamped down on the bottom key, smirked, then languidly handed the other to my partner. Both keys stopped working after 12:30 am. We attempted to get food while we were stuck out of the room, the restaurant closes at 12 but they said they were closing at 10 because their weren’t enough people. The two wait staff that did interact with us acted as though we were being outrageous for even attempting to get food. They charged us something like $30 for some deli meat and free bread. There are no stores anywhere close to this place and the ones in range close early. The staff in the morning without a manager offered us a drink ticket and two free $15 passes for the lift for our inconvenience. Mind you this visit took 2 hours to get to from Zürich and cost about $270 for one night. I would never return nor recommend this hotel to anyone, rich or poor. It was not worth the money, and the attitude of the staff was infuriating.
