Quiet and clean with friendly staff- good value in Balgue and less mosquitoes than other accommodation
1.0 / 5.0
Friendly and helpful staff
Room smelled bad all the time, and extremely hot even with a fan. Bugs everywhere and not clean in room. Dated decor setting but I guess that's the vibe. Shower was annoying with only the few streams of water pointing all wrong way

The atmosphere was exceptional. The stuff was great and very helpful. The location is perfect. There are many options for restaurants. No matter where you're on this island, you need a scooter to get to the beach & sightseeing. But Lazy Crab has a good distance to the most attractions.
They have a kitchen with room for your own purchase.
The breakfast is really good too and they have free coffee for breakfast.

I’ve been 5 months on the road and The Lazy Crab has to be one of the best places I’ve stayed. Such a chilled vibe and the staff are out of this world. Lots of areas where you get your own space or be with with other people.
The Wi-Fi would occasionally drop out in my room.

The staff was great and very helpful! Breakfast was delicious!
No hot water or water pressure in the shower (private room).

Location was great. Most of the stuff on the island is around here. Cute spot, lots of room for hangout and working if you need. They have cute bunnies.
We left early because of the bugs. I understand your on an island and theres no AC and what not. We ended up getting literally bitten by a huge cockroach. The beds have no mosquito nets and the doors and windows are not sealed so things get in pretty easy. We also picked this place cuz they had an electric shower, when we got there it was broken though..

It was cheap
The mouse falling on you from the ceiling

wasn’t aware that in Ometepe you can’t get anywhere without bikes so make sure you factor that into the cost of your stay if your on a budget. £8 ish for a bed but then an extra $15 /20 dollars to rent a bike each day.

didn’t see much but looked like a nice hostel in a good location

Bathrooms don't get clean very often

The chill area's in the hostel.
The 8 persons dorm is very war. There are not enough vans, space for your backpack and good ventilation.

Sunsets two minutes away from hostel.
Friendly staff especially Eric who really went out of his way to help us.
Nice areas outside our room to relax.
Rooms a little small.

Very helpful staff, nicely decorated place
Kitchen ist not very well equiped; dorm gets very hot at night as no air is moving through (there are 2 fans at the ceiling which help a little)

Lazy Crab home from home! Love the vibe here and how it’s just a little family. Lovely big open plan hostel with loads of chilling areas. Cooked breakfast is very good and very cheap. Ryder is such a friendly lovely owner and will always help you with whatever question you have :)
Water sometimes can not work, or the pressure is a bit off but apart from that nada!!

Balgue is a great location, staff was friendly and room seemed clean.
Room was dark and super hot, also the wifi was not really working in the room. Value for money a bit less than the rest of Nicaragua.

Great place with lots of hammocks and a good pool table, social vibe and nice people
Bikes to rent was really helpful
Lovely staff but volunteers usually don't have the end answer. Questions go through a few people but you do get the answer in the end.

The hostel was not a great experience. When I went to bed there was already someone laying in my bed as it turns out they double booked the bed. This was only around 10pm so I went to reception but there was no one around. I ended up sleeping outside on one of the mattresses on the 2nd level terrace. This wasn’t a big deal because I had earplugs and an eye mask to block the light but I was bothered by the disorganization of the hostel. Upon arrival I asked about the advertised daily breakfast (for $3). The next morning they were not serving breakfast due to a big party on the island the night before (too many hungover guests = not enough demand for breakfast). Had they told me this prior I would have bought some food to make in the kitchen. I rented a motorbike through the hostel for 3 days. After 2 days I realized I needed to leave the island early in order to get a covid test. The hostal reception would not give me a refund. The Lazy Crab Instagram posts a lot of stories which gives the impression of planned hostel activities however there was nothing planned while I was there. Lastly, the property is listed as “beachfront” on booking.com but the truth is it’s about a 150 meter walk down the road to the rocky shoreline. Aside from an average hostel, the island is stunning and worth going to for at least a few nights!
