We had a wonderful time at The Sea Urchin! You can’t beat the location - it is right on the beach which we truly enjoyed.
We were there with four adults and a baby. We had plenty of space for everyone. It was nice they had a high chair and a gate to block the stairway for the baby.
We had a wonderful time and would love to stay there again. Thank you!

We loved the location of the house and the owners were responsive to our concerns: we bought a hose to hose down the dogs and help with filling a water bucket as the outdoor shower requires a walk through the sand. The owners reimbursed us. We also bought some door hooks and hangers for the closets which they reimbursed us for. There were a number of other items that we provided direct feedback about to the owners that they said they would work on, most notably the safety concerns of the old deck, which had loose railings, protruding nails and some missing pieces that could lead to a serious accident. Less imperative items we let them know about include discomfort of the mattresses, needing to have light bulbs in the lamps, having lamps near outlets, having more outdoor furniture to actually enjoy the view and installing some sort of gate on the porch so dogs don't run off and away (my husband made one with rope that worked for our stay). With a little bit more love and care, this house has the potential for a five star review and I hope to see a review imminently that states the aforementioned concerns have been remedied, as promised by the owners.

Didn't find the home to be very clean. Much evidence of dogs having stayed there previously. Owner was very responsive to needed repairs. Found kitchen to be very well equipped. Overall our family enjoyed the home and had a great time.

Overall the stay was decent. The location was amazing and right on the beach which was really convenient, but as for the whole experience at the house as a whole, I truly feel we were given the bare minimum for the visit.
I was still amazed that it was up to us to figure out the linens (all beach and bathroom towels, bath mat, and all our sheets). It ended up taking up a whole suitcase for us to bring or else we would have had to pay a couple extra hundred for all the necessary things from a rental agency. Also one of the pillows my nephew was using smelled of pee which makes me think the cleaning is a very shallow clean job and it was missed. Lastly there was only like one pillow per person on springy beds, no toilet paper , not even just 1 role even after a long day of traveling, so we had to make a second trip for a sponge, toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags etc. I understand maybe some of this was in the listing but it was my first time experiencing these types of things.
The second half of our trip in NC at a different location (also on a beach) was a night and day difference with what was provided for the cost. We had a little goodie bag with a starter soap, sponge, etc with at least 2 toilet rolls, paper towels, paper plates and garbage bags with tons of extra things including extra blankets, pillows, and comfortable beds
In the end I think the location was worth it but the bare minimum was given because they know people will still rent it regardless.

House is definitely on the beach which was the only accurate description.
With much disappointment we ended up cutting our vacation short. We had planned on staying Friday to Wednesday but instead left Sunday morning.
The pictures and description of the home are misleading. The only thing that isn’t misleading- is how close to the beach you are.
The pictures of the home itself and inside of the home are not what you see on VRBO.
Inside the home, it is arranged differently. The coffee table spot doesn’t exist, there are not any chairs in the balcony that allow you to look over the railing. The railing itself is not sturdy. I would not let anyone lean on the railing for fear of it falling. The home is outdated, TV’s, master bathroom shower and shower head.
TV in upstairs master bedroom worked on and off.
The house itself was moderately clean. Considering it’s the renters responsibility to clean the house before departure, it doesn’t look like they do much else.
On top of all this, we are responsible for providing linens, paper products and trash bags.
All this with the understanding that there are absolutely no refunds. I emailed Elizabeth Sunday that we were leaving early and have not received any communication since.
In summary, if you want a house that’s literally “ in the sand on the beach” this is your place. But don’t expect much of anything else.

We did not get to enjoy the beach as high winds made it impossible/painful to be on the beach. Blowing sand buried the first few steps to the house (and caused damage to our car). But once we got unpacked the panoramic views of the crashing waves, the pelicans navigating the winds and the constantly changing clouds awed and entertained us!

Our stay at the Sea Urchin Inn was incredibly relaxing! The sound of waves crashing against the shore, the salty breeze, and the stunning ocean views made for the perfect family getaway. The house itself was spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed a few lazy days on the beach, reading from the upper and lower decks, watching three amazing sunrises, and hunting for shells. Overall, it was a wonderful and rejuvenating experience!!

we rented the property for the week of my son's wedding. Other than Tropical Storm Ian and the wind gusts is was a fantastic stay.
It was very hard with the wind and sand to enter and exit to our vehicles. But otherwise it was very good.

Right on the Beach
We really enjoyed our week at the Sea Urchin. The house is literally on the beach. The kitchen was sufficiently equipped with pots and pans and we cooked in most nights, and rarely left the beach!! Thank you so much!

INCREDIBLE ocean front location and EXCELLENT customer care!
The ocean front location of this property and the care provided to us by Lucas and Elizabeth Munn (owners and rental agents) were fantastic! The property is older and is showing signs of the wear and tear: we had several major maintenance related issues but Lucas was easily accessible by phone (and email) and responsive to every need. A priority was placed on the repairs and ultimately they were done to our complete satisfaction. The views and access to the beach are unmatched: the neighbors (owners and renters both) were lovely to meet and share the (almost private!) beach with. It is challenging to keep the sandy environment outside of the home. It is also a pet friendly home.

Birthdays celebrations at the OBX.
The property was the perfect setting for our annual OBX stay to celebrate our birthdays. The location of the beach house was ideal for observing wonderful sunrises while watching dolphins play in the surf. The house was very well appointed with necessary utensils and appliances. We will certainly visit this property again next year.

Nice but missing a few essential items
Beautiful views and foot steps away from ocean. The house was sandy when we arrived (which may be hard to avoid given the house is located right next to a dune). All of the remotes were missing batteries and we had to make an extra grocery trip for essentials (toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, etc). There are also no chairs for the decks so make sure to bring your own.

I have rarely written a review but I was so disappointed I felt compelled to do so. First the place was not clean. The floors were sandy a fly strip with dead bugs hung from the ceiling. One shower drain was clogged with hair which needed to be removed by a maintenance person the next day. Shower rods were rusty, paint was peeling from the bannister, the deck had rotten areas and even the door knob of the entrance didn’t work properly plus the TV remotes didn’t work. The place was poorly maintained. Overall, it was apparent that the house looked as if it’s owner just didn’t care. One positive, I loved the location right on the beach.

Amazing Location
This is an older home, so don’t expect luxury, but the location is amazing. The house is right on the beach, as pictured. The home is not luxurious, but it has everything necessary for a great beach stay. The entertainment systems are very up to date, and include lots of streaming services for rainy days. We appreciated the ice in the door refrigerator, but the microwave was a bit underwhelming. The kitchen had everything you’d need, although it could be organized better, and duplicates deleted. We had a great vacation. Checking in and out was easy and communication with the owner was great. We would go back, and I recommend it.

Right on the Beach
The location was great! The house is right on the beach. The house and deck do need some updating. There were issues with the remotes , lights working in the bathrooms, lose boards on the deck and other small issues. I was in contact with the owner but the handyman was unable to get there during our stay. I did send a follow up email to the owners and they did respond with a voicemail saying they would address the needs. Overall my family had a great week it was just a lot of little things for the overall price.

As close as you can get
This home was amazing. We showed up and the house was spotless. The views were amazing. You could sit on back porch and feel like you are sitting on the beach. The weather was great this week. The owners were amazing to deal with. I would recommend anyone to stay here. It was one of our family's best vacation yet. We will be back.

While the location / view was amazing, all the little things wrong with the property added up.
The property Mgr had no customer service skills what so ever! The outside railing / steps we're loose, none of the windows/ sliding door's had screens, house was dirty, we had to clean it when we got there. After talking to neighbors that live there, confirmed I'm not the only one that had issues with them, and the house is for sale which explains the lack of care.

Location, location location!
Nice property and enjoyed our stay! If it’s beach you’re looking for, this property is right on the beach!! I rated it 4 stars rather than five only because for the price, they should at the very least provide some deck chairs. The picnic table had clearly seen it’s better days! I would add that several of the spindles on the deck rails were loose / could be a danger for kids! Also, several light bulbs were dead and no spare bulbs were provided, towel racks in bathrooms were flimsy and finally, the cut wires (like barbed wire) wrapped around the building support pillars under the building are a serious safety hazard, again especially for kids.

Beautiful beach stay!
What a delightful beach house! I took my kids and family for spring break and, while too cold to enjoy the water and occasionally too windy to even go outside, we enjoyed the sight and sound of the ocean from every window!!
There is a lot of sand and you have to walk through it after using the outdoor shower (which has hot water - nice surprise!!!), so I recommend keeping a bucket of water near the door to rinse your feet after a walk on the beach.
Overall a really amazing experience. Thank you for sharing your house with us!

Beautiful Views
The house overall was incredible. For a winter get away during these strange times it was just what the doctor ordered. You can not get any closer to the ocean. Every angle/room has a view of the ocean which is incredible. As it was in the winter it was hard to utilize the decks as it was freezing outside. The house needs some updating and a furniture upgrade but would recommend.

The view from this house are fantastic. You can sit anywhere in the common living space with your morning coffee and have a view of the ocean and beach. The location is great for families as well. We stayed in January, and it was perfect for an off season weekend. The hosts communicate well.

Beautiful views by the Ocean
Despite it being November, we got out almost every day and enjoyed the stellar views from the main floor and balcony. We even saw some dolphins, which was unexpected. Our multi-generational family enjoyed the coziness of the family and living spaces and each room had a TV with roku for all of our different viewing preferences. The Wifi was also consistent and easily connected to, which was a must for those of us who needed to log on for work and school. The kitchen appliances withstood the needs of feeding a group of eleven breakfast, lunch and dinner. The lighting could be improved, especially as it gets dark so early and there could be a few more floor mats. Bringing your own linens and towels is a bit of a chore, but it is also good to feel like you are sleeping on your own sheets. Overall, we really enjoyed our time together and found the home met or exceeded all of our expectations. We would definitely return to this property in the future and would recommend it to others hoping for a peaceful stay with beautiful views and direct beach access.

Location was perfect! While a bit tight in the kitchen all 6 adults were able to have the space we needed including our dog. Would've been great if there were high chairs on the top deck vs sitting on the picnic table. All in all - GREAT vacation, place to stay and no complaints!

A true beach house
Great location. Oceanfront with unobstructed views. Far away from things to be quiet but not too far to make a quick run to the store. Refrigerator and freezer were the only issues. They need a new seal. Some of the light bulbs were dead too which was annoying. All and all a good house.

Needs TLC - we left a day early
The location is nice - easy access to lots of OBX sights and activities and right on the beach. Unfortunately, the place is very run down. Every lamp was broken in some way. The slip covers on the sofas don't fit and looked very "used". Painting doesn't seem to have been done in a long time - giant chips off of the woodwork. Fireplace didn't work. Dirty windows. Rusted metal accessories. Towel bars falling out of the wall. No wifi. The kitchen seems to have been updated somewhat, but overall the place was just not good. We left a day early.

Excellent location amazing views
The house is a little older so it didn’t feel really clean and could use some updates for the price. The step out rugs need replacing and the furniture is not really comfortable and the deck chairs are old and fragile. The grill outside is old and pretty much unusable and no water near the decks to clean your feet before entering. The owners were very easy to deal with but the property just needs some work to make it as nice as it’s location !
