We enjoyed our stay at El Septimo! I think we were in one their bigger room (stand alone) and it was very roomy and comfortable. The property had great walking paths to spot birds and wildlife. They have rubber boots to borrow and they were very welcome on the walks. The staff was very friendly and the food was decent.
The pools were great, especially the heated one. We also really enjoyed our night walks with Darwin! Darwin is very nice and really good at spotting nocturnal creatures!
We were happy with the location of the property but it is out of town. It was easy to get to town from the property, but at times we wished we could have stayed closer to town. However, the staff was very helpful with calling a taxi for us. It was just as easy to get one back to the property from town.
The road to the property is pretty bad and could use some work.

You could hear noises from other rooms and social areas so it was difficult to sleep.

The best part of our stay was the friendly and capable staff. Andrea in particular went above and beyond to make us comfortable and take care of any requests we had. She even made sure to welcome us with a very special 36th anniversary gift in our room!
Food was excellent. We had a great room. We would return in a heartbeat.
I really want to emphasize how much we liked our stay and not what we didn't like. If I had to say anything, it was that it was a bit more remote than I expected, but that also added to its charm. The guided birding tour we took was very expensive and probably could have been arranged for less with a local guide. (Even so, it was an amazing tour!)

El Septimo Paraiso is a really unique hotel. Set in lush forest, you are surrounded by wildlife, hummingbirds, toucans and more. Walking into the hotel, you realise you've discovered a forgotten, vintage gem - there's a bar, a reading room, balconies, games room (with card table of course), swimming pools, fountains, trails. It's a little bit jaded in places but that just adds to the charm. The staff couldn't be more welcoming or more helpful. Do come here if you want a breath of fresh air in nature and you're looking to slow down, chill out and watch hummingbirds from your hammock. If you're looking for a 24 hour party - nah stay in the middle of town. Would we stay here again? We'd love to. Really special.
You do need a taxi to get into town ($6 I think), but that is quick and easy to organise both ways, and our taxi driver became our local guide with those local insights and recommendations that you don't get from the tourist agencies. So a bonus really. And its worth being out of the town centre in order to stay in the middle of the forest!

Awesome place. Dining facilities for not just breakfast and very accommodating to our schedule of activities; all meals were excellent. Hot tub, warm swimming pool and cold water pool!! Hummingbirds galore. Large grounds for walks, bird-watching, sitting and relaxing or talking. Recommended by a friend who leads wildlife tours in the area and it did not disappoint. Appreciated the small portable heater in our room in mid-March.
The road (their long private lane) could use some repairs/leveling but partly gives the place its atmosphere. Not their fault but dampness was a constant problem in Ecuador - be prepared.

Breakfast was great. many options. We are birders and the property had a great hummingbird feeder set up. To go sack lunches were excellent and waiting for as at dawn b4 we set out. The property itself yielded many birds and had a developed trail system for birding. Beautiful grounds,

The staff was very friendly and helpful, food was good, jacuzzi was perfect, very abundant and luxuriant vegetation, jungle walk in the night, but most of all the tons of hummingbirds flying around everywhere.
The whole facility looks old and the rooms have an unpleasant smell, it probably needs some refurbishing. Nature and the staff made up for this though.

The location and the staff. They were really friendly and helpful.
The light at our bathroom was faulty.

The location and outdoors facilities are great
Our rooms were super dark because ceiling, walls, and floor are all dark brown. You feel a bit claustrophobic after a bit. We could also hear everything from neighbors because the wooden walls don't filter noises out. Finally, we thought some of the food items were overpriced.

Everyone was very nice. There are no manmade sounds at the facility. Lots of hummingbirds, flowers and trees.

Everything exceed expectation with this property: Cabin comfort, temperate was perfect especially at night (cool, with very warm blankets & comfortable bed), Clean, ideal Location (far enough from the main village of Mindo, which gives it a sense of privacy while and feeling of being surrounded by the jungle), Friendly staff, very good Food the cook even tailored things a bit to our liking).
Everything was on point. No complaints at all. Will visit again.

Septimo Paraiso is was a great place to escape from Quito city for 1 night. Located a way outside of Mindo, the site is very quiet and relaxing, surrounded by forest. The staff service was attentive, the new cabins made from recycled material are original and comfortable, the Xocolat tour was a novel and fun experience, but best of all this is a great spot for birdwatching with hummingbird feeders and Tanagers. The social areas were delightfully decorated and well-thought out. Disinfection, cleaning and anti-covid protocols were excellent - we felt very safe at all times.
The food was good but could have been better. Also the pricing of the food is a little steep for what it is ... $4,50+ for a capucchino, almost $10 for a brownie, and $23 for a simple lunch of soup and smallish plate of fish are very expensive compared to other lodges / accommodations in this area. The rooms were not ready at 1pm check-in time, but this was not a big problem as we appreciate that the staff need extra time to disinfect rooms.

One of the best features in my opinion is the huge window in the room overlooking the Mindo forest. They also have a heated pool, two other swimming pools and a hot tub.
Mindo is a very popular little town. There are many lodges. I think at one time Septimo Paraiso was one of the best. Now I see it as slighlty above average and therefore it is now also slightly overpriced too. Especially with Covid restrictions. We were given a 7-8am pool time. This is riduculois with two young children. Not to mention the pool.area boosts 4 different swimming areas. Big enough for various groups to interact and easily maintaining a physical distance.
