Honest review: we stayed april 22-24, check in was easy but even though it said pets allowed, upon reservation the house manager stated they don’t allow puppies..which is why we specifically looked for pet friendly. The upstairs which is the main house is nice but the deck definitely is the selling point. Unfortunately downstairs is unlivable and we had to spend an extra money for a hotel room because no one could sleep in the bottom level. There were rat droppings on the bedding, the satellite never acquired signal, despite the multiple fans in the bedrooms only 1 worked and when someone showered upstairs it would leak through the ceiling down stairs which explain the mildewy smell. The manger mentions the house is older which was fine but mold and leaking ceiling fans are a bit of a hazard. Once you pay for the reservation they send you a list of do’s and don’ts which include not lowering the ac below 70 because it could freeze up and to not lower the fridge because it could also freeze up and they give you a heads up it will take about 24+ hours for beverages to get cold. The private beach access ( full of sticker bushes that my husband had to trim back for us) and the deck with ocean view is definitely the best part of the rental but to be honest it would be better to just rent a room for the price you pay.

We stayed here for 2 reasons. The walkable direct access to the beach and a home we could all be in directly together. Horrible experience. Would never stay there again especially for the price during off season. The bottom section shouldn't even be available to rent. No clear walkway to the beach from the back deck. Stairs were blocked off due to high plants. Grass was so high you couldn't walk to beach. Stickers all along path to access beach. Old rusted chairs , two broke after my elderly mother and cousin sat on it. Such a hazardous and dangerous situation. Gladly nobody was hurt. Downstairs was disgusting. Whole section reaked of mold. AC vent was only in hall way , no circulation or vents in either rooms. Room closest to back porch was so hot. Thankfully it was a breezy and cool weekend. Portable fans were in room but didn't work only one that was small. Restroom was gross. Black gunk on baseboards. Shower rods rusted. Black markings all along shower. Bed in one of the rooms was lopsided. The top and bottom sections are separated, not together. You have to walk outside and up the stairs to gain access to upstairs section. Had I known this we would've just stayed in 2/3 separate condos or hotel rooms. Top section was nice , could've used a few touch ups but was the best section of the whole place. If it hadn't been for the top section being nice we probably would've left. Fridge didn't get cold at all. They did have pots pans and silverware for us to cook with. TV upstairs worked. Not sure about downstairs, couldn't get it too work. Washer nor dryer worked properly. We had to ring out clothes because they were soaked. Had to dry clothes about 3 times. Unannounced maintenance man came in during our stay to changed our AC filters The vents and filters were so filthy , after he changed it looked like it had been there for months. Not sure exactly what caused this but after leaving and returning home , multiple family members found bites on them possibly from bed bugs , either from upstairs couch or beds. Horrible experience if it hadn't been for the top section and it taking us 6 hours driving to get there would've just left.

Only plus was access to beach and view, but not enough to pay the rental price. The property should be demolished and rebuilt. I would never recommend and I believe we should be given a partial refund. STAY AWAY!!

This property was what it said it was, Beach Chic. Our family loved the view from the balcony as well as the short walk to the beach. Plenty of room for the family and many great memories were made.

This place was clean. It sleeps a lot of people! It does need a lot of updating, but the price was right. The beach access was our very own. There were not many people in on the beach in that area. It was a wonderful stay away from others. There is a charcoal grill in the garage that we pulled out and used. At night we loved sitting outside on the deck and enjoying the view and the company. The staff at Rent On Padre were fabulous! We will be back!

You just can't beat this location. The house is functional, and you can walk to the beach and numerous island shops, and the house has in-lot parking, so you don't have to worry about street parking. As noted by others, the downstairs is musty, and would not be good for those with mold allergies, and the accommodations are tight, but it's a great getaway location for those who can put up with those things.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This is at least a 60YO+ house with all original paneling. Upstairs the house smells like the inside of a rotten humidor, and the section downstairs smells so strongly of mold it is basically uninhabitable. Forget about a good night's rest here. The AC freezes up and stops if you like 72 Degrees inside. There were broken blinds covering the seaside view, could not raise for the view. The Satellite dish had blown off the roof (it was so rusted)and there was a broken window on the seaside view. There was also water rot under one of the seaside windows and they had removed the rotten paneling there, exposing insulation to guests the height of a toddler. Unsafe.

The house is in a great location....it is right on the beach! Fabulous newer deck, although, it could use some new chairs. We just used our beach chairs. Lots of parking, you know how teens are, they want to drive their own car. The house was clean. That is the most important thing to us. It does look like it needs a bit of updating, but you can tell they keep it clean. We liked that there was space for everyone in our group. But that view from the porch, that was everything to us. Plus our own beach access. Thank you Rent On Padre for taking good care of us!

This beach cottage is one of the last right on the beach and is a unique experience. The view from the deck of the Gulf is unsurpassed.

We had a great time. It is a quirky older house as described in the online listing. Everything worked dishwasher, washer drier ect. The lower level was a bit musty smelling. We only used the upper level bedrooms because I was not comfortable having either of my youngish children sleeping so separated from us. You have to go outside to get to the lower bedrooms and the washer/ dryer. We were fine only using the 2 upstairs bedrooms but it could be an issue for other familys. We have a small RV that we drove to South Padre. The driveway is very very long and would have been fine for even a much longer RV or several cars.
