My husband and I spent the weekend here with our pups and had the best time exploring Spearfish. Loved the recommendations the hosts shared for hiking and for places to go eat. The space was incredibly well kept and decorated. We felt very comfortable.
The private fenced-in area was a HUGE win with our pups who loved to watch the chickens and other wildlife roam the yard. We felt confident in letting them sniff and explore from their safe fenced-in area without having to keep them on leash.
As mentioned by other reviewers, the composting toilet is not a big deal at all - no smell, nothing weird other than having to step up to get to it.

Great little spot for the weekend. Close to trails and the river. Cold plunge pool right on the property. Deer visited the yard everyday we were there. Close to restaurants and breweries. Quiet!

My wife and our dogs enjoyed a complete experience for staying at a turn of the century home. If you want to enjoy life without any distractions we highly recommend this place. The people were engaging and very personable. The location is close to a running/walking trail and dog park. We will visit again.

It was interesting when we found out the house was the oldest home in Spearfish to have people live in it. Unless I missed it in the website description, the outhouse was a bit of a surprise... Now that was VERY interesting! My husband was disappointed when he learned there was no TV, but ended up kind of enjoying that for one evening.

Not only was everything just as described we had a nice surprise at finding the owner is very creative . We so enjoyed his craftsmanship on things he built on the property and future ideas on places to stay.. we would definitely stay again.!!

This is the second time we’ve stayed and won’t be the last. The Swisher House is so peaceful yet close to everything in Spearfish. The property is beautiful, the host friendly, and communication is fantastic. I made an error in my travel dates and they graciously accommodated us with no fuss! Thank you!

Thank you for providing a pretty, quiet place to stay with a large area to walk and relax in. It might be good to mention that a person with mobility issues will not be able to use the toilet.

Perfect; magical
Beautiful, simple and clean. This was a highlight from our vacation. The watering hole on the creek was perfect for relaxing and the property is in Spearfish for things to do. For what we were looking for it was perfect! Done relaxation on our way home from driving across the country.

Older couple headed west
The rental was as expected but the property surrounding it was much more interesting than expected. There is an emphasis on recycling, reuse, and careful management of natural resources. There are lovely, creative steel structures on the property and it felt a bit like a park. The chickens are well contained so it wasn’t a problem with our dog. Host was responsive to communication and got us a can opener when we discovered we needed one. The composting toilet is a thing. A step is needed to sit on it because it’s high but we 60+ folks managed it fine. Hand bars in the wall would be good for stability especially when using the toilet at night. The little yard had no outdoor furniture but the host let us use some nearby lawn chairs and we went to Walmart and got a little side table for happy hour😊. It was a fun experience and we would stay there again. Nice accommodations for pups too with hooks for leashes and poo bags. Plenty of room to play fetch, on a long leash of course.

Great place to unwind
My family (dog, 10 year old, and husband) and I stayed here for 5 nights. It was wonderful. The house was very clean and well taken care of. Outside was great, my child said this was her favorite part of the trip. Trampoline, tree house, tree swings, creek…she had a blast. The dog loved the space to play fetch and loved the stream too. Lots of shade to sit and enjoy. We ended up spending more time here than we planned as it was so relaxing. We would certainly stay here again. It was great to find a place which was dog friendly and so convenient!

Amazing stay at the farmhouse
Such a great place to stay in Spearfish. The farmhouse has so many unique pieces used in it's construction it all adds to it's charm. The communication with the host was quick and easy. If you are traveling with dogs this is a great place to stay as it has a safe and escape proof fenced yard which our dogs really enjoyed. Make sure you read the details of the house, there is a composting toilet which may take a bit to get used to, but the charm of the house and yard makes it worth the stay!

What a hidden gem in the heart of Spearfish…so quaint and relaxing! We had a fantastic stay and the hosts were great with communication. We already have our next trip booked and are looking forward to coming back in a few months.

We needed a place close to Whitewood where our son lives. We needed a place that would let us have our dogs. I mainly chose this site for their fenced yard. The details of the house I didn’t pay attention to. So to our surprise was a composting toilet! Hmm. First for us!! After a week we can truly say don’t let this stop you! We never had any odors and the owners serviced it! It was so quiet and peaceful there , we slept better then we do at home! We had a problem with our car on departure and the owner was there in minutes to help us! We loved it there! Can’t wait to come visit again!!

Amazing!
Very cute place to stay. The house itself was great with a lot of history. Our favorite part was the HUGE yard with the stream running through it. There’s a swing next to the stream and a dipping pool. There’s a treehouse and a they even had chickens!! It was a great place for us and our dog, lots of room to play and a smaller fenced in yard right outside the door. 10/10 would recommend!

This is a perfect little farm house tucked into the town. It has access to everyone you need at the house, there were snacks waiting for us when we walked through the door, and it is in a great location. There is plenty of space if you have a pup that loves to run (we do) and perfect for a romantic getaway with a sauna right on the property. So many cool features about this place!

Charming and perfect location.
A lovely little suite of rooms with a super comfortable bed, in beautiful surroundings. Easy checkin, good communication and so nice to have a secured yard for pups, too! I only wish it had been mid-summer so we could have really used all the outdoor amenities!! Alas- we were traveling midwinter. Would love to repeat stay when all is green and blooming! Thanks Emily!

A fantastic stay. The setting is fabulous with the creek in the backyard, garden, trees, swing, and patio all while in a quiet residential area minutes from the freeway. . The house is clean, spacious, adorable. This is a rare and unique property.
