After reading the reviews of Colorful Cottonwood, we were so eager to escape the Phoenix heat and make this location our temporary home base for a short getaway. It was EVERYTHING that was described, and then some! We usually miss our own beds and cozy recliners from home when we travel, but this abode had beds and furniture pieces that were incredibly comfortable for us! We loved the lights, flooring, and decor. The bicycle prints were so fun and unique! As a family of faith, we also immensely appreciated the addition of the scripture art! It was a beautiful reminder that being together as a family is ultimately what makes a vacation unforgettable! We found ourselves walking around looking at the stunning, simple yet elegant design and the creative built-ins all over the home. We are a family of 4 humans and our dog, Coconut. We took three walks one day just to enjoy the cool mornings and evenings. There is an Agape Community Garden and park just steps away from the house, and the Verde Village Property Owners Association Preserve is within walking distance as well. We walked across the lane to look at the gurgling Verde River and took in all the beautiful neighborhood houses and foliage. The two decks look out to gorgeous scenery and the drive to the location is quite beautiful as well. The Walmart was so close that when we realized we needed dessert (Cannoli and Ding Dongs--we're not a fancy crew, ha!) to accompany our brisket and salad dinner, I made it to the market and back in under 30 minutes! We ate in town at The Krow and stopped at Gayle's Chocolates for consumable souvenirs. For our family, a venture north ALWAYS means stopping in at The Golden Goose Grill in Sedona, and we were elated that the temps in Red Rock country were ten degrees cooler during the day. The mornings in Cottonwood were in the 70's and absolutely invigorating. It should be noted that the water pressure was excellent, and the water got so hot so quickly even with all four of us showering within a short time frame! We all know how annoying it can be when you are last to get ready and the water basically turns into tap temperature! In the Arizona heat, that is rarely a major issue, I admit, but it is a wonderful thing to have hot water when you want it! With a rental home, you really don't ever know what you're gonna get! The AC worked great for the midday heat. There were spices, oil, foil, and disposable dinnerware, as well as nice dishes for sit-down family meals. Although we didn't use the hot tub, we did peek at it and it was clean and very well maintained. The whole home was so pristine, so uncluttered, and so welcoming! We planned to visit Jerome and perhaps take a Jeepin' trail, but these activities were scratched when we realized hanging out at Colorful Cottonwood was simultaneously relaxing and rejuvenating. Our ONLY less than perfect aspect of our stay was that it just wasn't long enough! Next time we will be sure to book more days. The owners left brochures, area guides and magazines, and a laminated booklet. Two teachers were on this trip, so we always get excited when we see laminated pages, ha! This is a bit goofy to admit, but we were all so excited when we saw there was already ice in the freezer for our initial Happy Hour! We had been delayed due to holiday traffic, of course, and arrived in separate vehicles, so we were desparate to unwind when we arrived at 3 pm to check in. The sounds of Cottonwood-owls, roosters, woodpeckers, leaves blowing in the breeze, and babbling river-made us forget the I-17 congestion right away. The modern-mixed-with-retro kitchen was all kinds of fun, and there is even a Keurig! We'll bring our K-Cups for the guys when we return. The grounds are just adorable. There's a garden, a trellis, walking pavers, and seating outdoors both upstairs and downstairs. If you have a member of your party who has trouble with stairs, there is a bedroom and bath (with a lovely sink) on the ground floor. For those of you who've ever booked due to amazing reviews of an Evolve/VRBO/Air B&B home, only to arrive to find a less-than-clean or ill-maintained place (sigh...), this is NOT the case with Colorful Cottonwood! It is everything that is described and photographed! A half hour drive will take you to countless landmarks in all directions. The property managers/owners were extremely prompt in responding before, during, and after our trip, and check in and check out was a breeze. We had no issues whatsoever. Google Maps will take you straight to the location. We hope to be back very soon!
