Hotel Kvarner is one of these old, turn-of-the-century hotels that put you in a time machine. Yet make no mistake, this hotel is remodeled and clean. It is somewhat luxurious, but not stuffy. And the people who work there are nice and helpful. I have to say, for the money probably a really, really good deal.

I’m the heart of lots of shops and restaurants. Right on the water and close to the boardwalk. Only one thing parking is 25 euro a night

The hotel is located in a beautiful historic building from the 1880's and the architecture is really perfect for relaxing and well-being. We had one of the higher room categories and it was really amazing. Also the selection and quality of food during breakfeast was one of the best we have ever seen. We really enjoyed our stay very much

I was amazed that there were no USB ports in the rooms and no adapters available. The bed was great however, as was breakfast.

The hotel has a wonderful history and is located ideally in Opatjia. On the water, near shops and restaurants, the hotel was clean and nice. Food was good and the staff very nice.

Lovely service, very comfortable bed and a good breakfast. The waterfront and pool area are also fantastic. The hotel is going through an upgrade, hopefully that will also include the room decor.

We only stayed one night as we were travelling but wished it were more. The hotel is top quality with excellent facilities plus being in a waterside location. We cant comment on dinner but the breakfast offering was the best we have ever experienced which can be taken indoors or outside on the terrace. Fantastic, will return.

It was a great stay and experience. Staff is friendly and willing to help. Complementary breakfast is amazing. Rooms are big and clean. Hotel has its own beach

We were planning to stay three nights in Rabac, but it was fully booked so I tried Opatija instead and found this hotel on hotels.com It was the last room, and we got the room 101. A big room with a huge bathroom (perfect for handicapped), and we were thrilled. Except for the fact that there was a lamp on the fire alarm in the ceiling that lit up the whole room, and the rock-hard beds, we liked the room very much. The AC miracles and worked even if the keycard wasn’t in. The hotel is old, but was renovated in 2004. So some stuffs are a bit worn out, but the interior is beautiful. The hotel also has a huge breakfast, both with a la cart dishes and buffet, and also had sparkling wine(!). The only thing I missed was some bacon and a good scramble egg, the scramble eggs on the buffet wasn’t much to talk about. Besides this, there is a great pool area and also private beach. Warning! The sunbeds are booked up suuuuper early! It says on the sign that the beach opens at 8 AM, but trust me- you have to go down by at least 07 to get a spot. It’s easier by the pool, we got a spot by 08:30. But yeah, set the alarm early. Also! The pool has salt water. Tip: Try the lamb in the restaurant, and the lemon meringue pie. If the beds were more comfy we would definitely go back year after year.

Our experience at the hotel was jaded by the rudeness we experienced at checkin. This followed with being lied to by the staff. Coincidently we were not alone. Each time I went to reception there was another guest there complaining.To their credit they eventually apologised (after I asked if they planned to apologise) and offered a modest discount. However money can not replace days of holiday spoilt. The location is ok. Beautiful out look. Great walking track in either direction along the coast. Ease access to swim in the sea. Downside is the night club next door with thumping music until the early hours. The property is run down and in need of refurbishment. The floor in our room was lifting due to water damage. There were large patches in plaster. Mould in the bathroom. The shower leaked and we had to use the towels to mop water all over the floor.Breakfast was below average. Poor quality produce. The staff at breakfast were poor, every morning after waiting 15 minutes I would have to get up, find someone and ask for coffee, this would be met with a blank stare. The hours for breakfast were limited an inconvenient 8-10am.In our room there was a kettle and tea bags and cheap coffee sachets. At check out we were amused that we were charged for the tea bags (despite them not being able to provide black tea after numerous requests we resorted to fruit tea) and Nescafé sachets. There was no notice to say that we would be charged. Do not recommend.
