Excellent service & staff. All staff found to be very friendly. Breakfast menu good. Property about half a mile from centre of south shields with metro & bus stations. Pleasant walks through local parks & along coast nearby. Parking - widely available as free spaces outside along whole length of road & nearby side roads. Our car left entire duration of our stay as we made use of very good public transport. Excellent base for staying near Newcastle or travelling nearby. Would definitely recommend as a suitable destination.

the Clifton is like a home from home, comfortable with quality beds, pillows and linen. best of all, the service is second to none. I already have an other booking made for my next trip for business in town during June.

It is obvious that this family has had 5-star hotel experience. The room was beautiful, clean, and well-appointed. The food choices were myriad for breakfast, and I could see why the people of the city go there for breakfast, brunch, coffee, and lunch. The staff were friendly, and expeditious.

Probably the best hotel in the area. Wonderful staff. Prepared a vegan breakfast for us. Rooms a little noisy but normal for most hotels and I’m a light sleeper. Would definitely stay again if return to the area

The owners & the staff here were all excellent. However I think I was unlucky with the room I got… right at the very top of the building , sloping ceiling , i felt very claustrophobic .

Our 4th stay here and, once again, couldn't fault it. Clean and comfortable room, friendly staff and quiet location. Breakfast is brilliant, freshly cooked. Will definitely stay again when in South Shields.

Staff very helpful and friendly, free on street parking, loads of places to eat in the area (Ocean Road), handy for the seafront. The hotel itself was top notch and the breakfast room/coffee shop were lovely. Will definitely be back.

We had a happy experience staying at The Clifton and would recommend if you are staying in South sheilds. Nice breakfast, clean rooms, and helpful staff. Brilliant! Just what you need to relax and enjoy your holiday.

Great stay , lovely place and great food.

This is very attractive clean and well decorated hotel and the all the staff are very friendly and attentive. Calum met us on arrival and kindly carried our case to our room on the top floor. The room was small but comfortable. The bathroom shower worked well but the cold water from the sink tap had a very limited flow and the extractor fan was not very efficient. The weather that weekend was hot and sunny which made the room very hot and with only a small top window to open not much fresh air. Although there is a fan in the room it did not make any difference. The continental breakfast was nice and the afternoon teas that we saw looked lovely. The hotel is in a great location with plenty of restaurants accross the road and the beach just a few minutes away at the end of the road. I would recommend the hotel and definitely book again.

Asked for downstairs room. As no lift got tiny stuffy room on first floor aaked for bigger room was moved to attic and cj Charged another 40 pounds for Squeeky bed every time you turn over and bathroom light and room ceiling light not working faulty towers stairs narrow and slippy .did not enjoy this b and b at all breakfast over at 9 oclock i would stay well away fro faulty towers spend your money else where

Very nice hotel on busy road .The decor is amazing .Stayed in room 2 front room on main road .The bed was comfy , only downside was wooden surround on bed , must have banged our legs numerous times . The sliding door on bathroom /toilet was rather noisy and could hear upstairs sliding doors too. On arrival was met by owner I think ? And was greeted by him saying 'Youre bank card was declined ' after him trying to put the card through once again it worked .He never asked where we were from or how was youre journey ? We stayed for 2 nights and wasnt sure who the owners were .Plenty of staff at breakfast and the breakfast choice was lovely .The coffee was very poor and luke warm .Not enough milk in room either .On departure nobody asked how our stay was ?? The cleaner i spoke to was very friendly though .

Booked superior en suite room our driver was given basic room shared toilet in another building no explanation. Driver has health issues had to leave and try find accommodation elsewhere and eventually did at more cost still waiting on hotel refunding us

Second stay here and really enjoyed it once again. Bed a little uncomfortable but room spotless and well maintained. Continental breakfast on Christmas and Boxing Day was great and lots of choice. Staff friendly, welcoming and attentive. Although the hotel is on a busy road, very quiet.

Well what can you say about the clifton as everything was perfect all the staff are very friendly and we had warm welcome.breakfast was super and nothing was too demanding fot the chef .only down side we had to come home we will reccomend the clifton and will be going back.

Overall happy with the stay. Only thing I would change was hotel guests had a different breakfast menu from the coffee shop customers. The difference between options was nominal and in my opinion could have been absorbed into the price of the hotel stay.

Amazing boutique hotel! Very fashionable and confortable! Beautiful building. Staff was perfect. In an area with lots of restaurants. Top breakfast! I will give high review for the stylish decor! From the bed to the shower, everything was fantastic!
