Nice and clean room. Private porch in the back for the morning coffee or evening wine. 3 minutes walk to the beach to see the sunrise (weather permitting). Pizza trailer arrives at around 5 pm. We were pleased with everything except the heating that was blowing directly on the bed. A bit uncomfortable.

A well presented property which had privacy and good parking.
Only negative is the shower which should have a curtain to prevent water splashing all over the bathroom which is also used for dressing due to the only mirror being in the bathroom.

At least Ocean Beach motel are friendly and welcoming and arent still asking for Covd Vax Passes like their nearest competitor....
Clean tidy & friendly place. Bed comfort was a 6/10 and the walls are rather sound conductive. Wd stay again though :)

The property was under refurbishment or something as there was scaffolding all over the place, however the apartment we stayed in was lovely and clean and tidy. There was plenty of space for our family with a fully equipped kitchen and lounge area to relax. The beds however were uncomfortable and there weren’t enough pillows which was definitely a downside for us.

Not impressed, after a long trip we just wanted to take a nap. No aircon, there’s a ceiling fan that helps a little. Carpets smelled like wet dog. A lot of flies. Room was very outdated. Cups and glasses were dirty. Really did not enjoy this stay, quite expensive for Gisborne. Floors were sticky and very dangerous to shower as it’s very slippery. Price is - $60 more than other properties in the area and in my opinion not worth it, the property needs a lot of TLC.

Nice large unit but cold, only heating was a small oil heater and fan heater in one bedroom. We got up to a warmer main room. The blinds did not fully shut in the bedrooms. Other than that nicely set up.

The location outside of Gisborne on the way to the coast, next to the beach was idyllic. Okitu Store is in walking distance for everyday amenities. The Wifi was spotty. There was a lack of information regarding the power saving features attached to the key. Which made resting and low key touring ideal. Great for recuperation - not great if you want to do some online work.

Hicks Bay Motor Lodge: We arrived to a lovely welcoming greeting from the 2 owners of this well appointed Motor Lodge. Room 10 appeared to be great, all clean and well maintained etc. But we soon discovered it was extremely noisy at night, with light flashing as cars on the main road passed by. We were told in the morning by lovely owner that this is usually the last room they let out as it is the noisiest - I had booked months prior, but of course Expedia had only booked it the week before! Hence we ended up with the worst room in the best motel! The location is great with just a short walk down to the beach. Would recommend coming here, but definitely not to room 10!

Lovely airy room out onto seafront. Very nice people. Highly recommended.

Really peaceful place to stay, loved that it was just down the road from the beach and the staff were really friendly.

Very handy to beach. Nice patio outside our room. Enjoyed Wainui beach vibe

We had a one bedroom apartment. It was a really good size, clean, and very quiet. We had one decent sized cockroach per day and there was spray left in the room, so probably an ongoing problem. Otherwise it was great. Cleaning and check-in staff were conscientious and super friendly. Great location for Wainui Beach :)

The heater in the lounger kept turning itself off and you had to hit restart button, be nice if the thermostat could cut in and out like it would normally. Apart from this was a nice place to stay

We booked for one night and although the resort was very empty we were placed in an end room closest to the road. Trucks rumbled by all night and impossible to sleep. Our unit front door blew open in the night from the constant vibration. In the morning the shower went cold half way through my shower and I needed to rinse off with freezing water. My husband obviously couldn’t shower so I boiled the jug so he could at least have a shave. Impossible as the plug in the bathroom wouldn’t hold water. No bath mat or flannels. The heater wouldn’t work either so no hot water or heating - very unacceptable. No one could be raised at reception at 7.30 am so self checked out. On a positive note - the room was very clean and spacious.

Excellent location for visiting friends in Wainui. The beach is about 200m away and a handy store across the road.
Room was comfortable, larger than the average studio room with good storage for clothes. Small private patio, with table and chairs. Would be lovely to have had a small gas barbecue to use there.
This was our second stay here and we would happily come again.

Ocean Beach Motor Lodge delivered on every level. Located 2 mins walk to a beautiful sandy beach and 1 min from a great little general store/food takeaway. We were also delighted by our room. The name 'motor lodge' can sometimes suggest basic amenities, a little worn around the edges but Ocean Beach was a million miles from that. It was spotelssly clean, lovely linens and towels, a really comfortable bed which was enormous and fully fitted kitchette with every spoon, cup, plate, glass a couple could need during their stay. An ironing board and iron were also provided which was great. the bathroom sparkled it was so clean and was fully tiled with a stand alone shower and the fixtures and fitments were of good quality.
We had a warm welcome on arrival from the daughter of the owner and an equally warm farewell from the owner on our depature.
When I was researching our accommodation in the Gisborne area I was not finding quite the right place in the city but 5 mins out by car and Ocean Beach Motor Lodge seemed to be offering something which would be perfect during our 5 week tour of NZ. My instincts could not have been more accurate...... and that Beach..... a bonus.
