Fantastic hostel. We booked a private room. The whole hostel is well maintained and spotlessly clean. We contacted staff when we were running late and they kindly accomodated our late checkin. Bathrooms are spotless. Room spotless. Very clean. Would stay here again!

The staff was absolutely wonderful and took the time to show us around everything. They even provided us with a list of transport options and restaurants nearby. They offer a free shuttle service in the morning to the train station, too. The building itself was in great condition too, and the rooms were really nice. The only issue we had was the beds were very, very firm, so it was difficult to sleep on. That being said, if you’re okay with harder mattresses, this is the perfect place for you!

Great place in every way. Not a single issue, and everything is labeled in several languages which made using the bidet a bit easier. The biggest thing is how incredible the manager (I think) is: besides being friendly and helpful, when he saw the bags we were gonna carry all the way to the bus station, he just went and drove us there himself. By far the best experience staying anywhere, and if I'm ever back in Japan, I know where I'll be staying.
Thank you for serving us during our stay, and I look forward to coming back again some day.

The staff is very warm and kind. They provide shuttle to the train station 3 times in the morning which is a huge bonus. It is possible to walk into town but it is a little far.

Great hostel to stay at. Close to an old Japanese village and within walking distance to the center of Takayama. Everything you need for your stay is here including a free morning shuttle ride to the train station.

Sakura Guest House is run by a family and they are really sweet. They let you check in early as well, compared to other hostels who just allow you to drop your bag. The rules are very relaxed and shoes are allowed inside (which for me was not a big plus as it compromised with the cleanliness). The bed is comfortable, the room is warm. The location is quite nice, in a residential neighbourhood. It is very close to Hida folk village.

It was lovely to stay almost in the country with beautiful walks nearby but not too far from restaurants and convenience stores.
It has a big communal kitchen.

We loved the staying here, it felt like home from home within a short space of time. We arrived in the rain to a lovely roaring fire in wood burning stove in the communal kitchen & dining area. The shared bathroom & shower areas were immaculately clean. Everyone was very friendly with us oldies.
The kitchen area is very well equipped & easy to use. Free tea & coffee available at all times.
It's about a 15-20 minute into town for shops & restaurants. There is a lovely bakery just down the road too.

The twin room I booked was far better than I expected. There were heating mats on the beds with a heating fan in the room. It was so warm inside the room. The room was in a traditional Japanese style.
在共用空間的廚房裏有充足的廚具和飯桌,要自行煮食或聚會也十分適合,那裏還有一個用柴燒的火爐作取暖用,令整個旅舍大堂都十分温暖。
另外浴室是男女共用的,有點美中不足。
There are sufficient tools for cooking and big tables for meals and gatherings in the common area, with a fire at the corner for warming the area. However the shower room is for both genders, which is a bit embarrassing.

I had a great time in Takayama staying at Sakura guest house, I wish I could have stayed longer!!! The house was beautiful and the views from the window of the mountains was lovely. The room was cozy and the kitchen was very nice, I enjoyed sitting by the fire and chatting with other guest. The staff gave many great recommendations for food, places to go and things to see near by. There was a free shuttle bus twice in the morning to the train station which was nice otherwise its not too far of a walk from the train station. Takayama is a great place and I would stay at Sakura guest house again if I have a chance

The guesthouse is located at the opposite of Hida Takayama Museum of Art. It takes about 20 minutes walk from Takayama JR station or 6 stops by Nohi (Sarubobo) bus. The room and the share bathroom and toilet are very clean. The environment around here is quiet, calm and comfortable. The guesthouse also provide bike for rent and free shuttle bus to the JR station although just twice in the morning only.

The close to the hida open air museum and they rent cheap bikes if you want to go to Takayama downtown (15 min walk to the train station otherwise). I loved the environment, our room was with great view to the rice fields behind the hotel.

We just stayed one night driving from Nikko to Kyoto. Higly recommend this guesthouse, easy for western tourists too. All very clean. Practical room with efficient AC, fan and screened windows. Quiet and pleasant neigbourhood. Well equipped kitchen to share with other guests. Would stay there anytime again, for longer stays too.
