The people were amazing, the service was amazing….the only issue is that the location is very far from the station. Google maps says you can walk but it’s straight up a mountain and buses only run 1-2 per hour. Uber and Go-taxi don’t work

Although the nightly rate I paid was not exorbitant, it was still relatively high. Unfortunately, the buffet meals included with the room were extremely unpleasant. The dishes were overly salty, and the raw shrimp tasted stale, rendering it inedible. The excessive saltiness made all the food nearly unbearable, with only the fresh tomatoes proving to be somewhat palatable. Consuming fresh tomatoes as the sole acceptable option for two consecutive days was not what I expected after paying for a Ryokan experience. Furthermore, I observed mold in the room, and the onsen bathtub emitted a musty odor from the ceiling, greatly disappointing me.

This traditional hotel is showing its age, the staff are very helpful and friendly. The area is a ~20 min from the station and 10 from the nearest convi. It is located top of a hill so expect a climb when you walk back with groceries.

Excellent staff service.
Need to improve on breakfast - it was cold, should provide better scrambled eggs and ham - again, cold.
The room was great in size and felt very comfortable.

The baths are fantastic. The room was beautiful. I wish the outdoor pool had been open.
The maid did not clean my room even though I left a sign on the door to clean it.
Aftert I reported it to the front desk, someone came in and folded the edge of the toilet paper but he or she did not clean the bathroom.

We had a 2 night stay at this hotel. First, this hotel is on a hill, which is not obvious when booking. Taking a cab or the bus is helpful. We arrived to find that the bathroom had a dead bug and grime. We went to the front desk to request a cleaning, and were told this was going to be done. We came back after dinner to find it was not done. Nor was there any cleaning done the day after.
We also asked if we could change rooms, but were told first that the hotel is fully booked, and the next day that "someone in charge" will be there in the afternoon to see about a room change. We never heard back. We asked hotels.com if we could get a refund and book a different hotel for the second night, but hotels.com could not get a hold of the hotel by phone.
We looked back and noticed that for the room we booked, only one picture of the bathroom was available, and it was of the tub. The premium rooms were renovated, and the new bathroom does feature prominently, which is a misrepresentation because it made us think all rooms were renovated. The rest of the room was quite dated as well including very old mini fridge and safe.
The breakfast is quite good. However, they do charge JPY 6600 for the buffet dinner, and we did not have it as we thought there were many cheaper options in town.

Amazing stay!

The hotel is located in the mountain top at the middle of the highway. The building was old and not very well managed. Most importantly, the outside onsen is closed so that I could not do a hot spring bath outside of the building, which was a bumber because I wouldn't have booked if I knew I cannot do a hot spring bath outside. It's dangerous to walk the highway afte the sunset (i.e. can get hit by a random car) so I had to take a taxi from Hakone Yumoto Station to the hotel. Staffs were friendly, but the property appears very old.

Outdoor onsen open during 1 day of our weekend. Indoor onsen open all days.
Beautiful and walkable to downtown Hokane.
They have table tennis as well.

I imagine that this hot springs resort in its early years was incredible. It has the typical Japanese ambiance but things are very worn and some floors seemed even abandoned. Yet, the staff was great and very helpful. I feel I paid twice or more for the value I received in exchange.

I was disappointed to find out that the swimming pool was out of order. On Hotels.com it say under “key facts” 24 hour check in but the facts to the matter is it’s 2pm.

It was a present surprise that the hotel has its own onsen which is convenient as we did not have to leave the hotel as originally planned to enjoy what we came for.

The food selection and quality were excellent.
Our room and en-suite bathroom showed signs of age, wear, and tear. Fortunately the showers and onset baths were fantastic and that is where we showered rather than in our private shower/bath. The service was excellent. It was a bit of an up hill hike fro the train station and town center but bus service is excellent.

While I say everything was good at this hotel, I was much impressed by its Onsen. I loved it especially the outside one.

The hotel is not exactly near Hakone Yumoto station and the facility is a bit worn out, but the staff was really helpful and friendly, plus the breakfast was amazing, so overall speaking,we did quite enjoy our stay there.

There are only 3 disable car park at the hotel. The hotel car park is located 50 metres away and to walk there is dangerous and very dark at night.

Definitely going back, loved the open air onsen (there is also a large indoors onsen). Dinner and breakfast excellent. Definitely got our money's worth. The room was spacious and the hotel manager Abe was super accommodating and welcoming. Highly recommend this place if you want a relaxing place. And do yourself a favor and spend more than one night. :0)

There is no WiFi in the rooms, only in lobby which is undesirable.

My wife and I stayed for here for our honeymoon. Hot springs were wonderful. Room was traditional and comfortable. We really appreciated the tea room where we were able to sip matcha while overlooking the nearby forests in the morning. There are not very many food options nearby and the ones that are available are down the hill and not open late. The breakfast buffet was well worth the pay as there are many options including western and Japanese style foods. Staff spoke English and were very accommodating. There was also a shuttle that cost 100 yen that drives you down to the nearby town. Would stay here again in the future.

Not clean enough. A Big fly inside the room. The location is a little far from the station.

Unless one is travel savvy and smart enough to ask the assistance of the many English speaking tourist information easily available services...location can be a tad difficult to locate. The local was most helpful too. The initial receptionist was not proficient in English but nothing communicative gestures cannot solve. Best to stay with full lodging as the convenient stores are not nearby unless you either use the Hakone pass for the bus ride into town center or the ¥100 shuttle services...possibly going in both direction & pending direction. The hotel onsen are decent but Hakone in a whole have a lot of places to visit and can be exhausting. It’s a mid size Ryokan and westerner not use to low placing furnitures or (if not full board) self made futon beds. We paid surcharge for breakfast and it was somewhat delicious, especially the Japanese menu items. Overall satisfy, but we did opt for the cheapest option? Special thank you to Aiyu-san for indulging us with communicating well with us in English. Arigato gozaimasu.

Hakone Hotel is up on the mountain, need to take about 10-15 minutes bus to arrive. Hotel is a little bit old but comfortable. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner have not much choice but overall is good. Have a pleasant stay.

Comfy stay at a modern ryokan with a great breakfast. The hotel sits above the main city street, so be prepared to hike a steep hill (or rely on a ¥100 shuttle). I was disappointed that the ryokan’s onsen didn’t allow tattoos, but I snuck in anyway.

The staff there do not speak English at all so I cannot express my request and concern to them.
No WIFI in the room! Expedia advertises as Free-Wifi Internet, is this a lie?
No Towel for the shower - this is absolutely not okay.
No Towel for the hot spring but they still charge you for resort fee (aka hot spa) at checkout, what a bargain to them, good strategy to fool customers.
I pay so much for such horrible experience.

It was typhoon season and due to road closures, we had a long drive to the hotel.
We arrived at the hotel slightly wet and cold- thankfully checked in was seamless as our bookings were already printed out beforehand- we were in our room within 10 mins.
Although the place looks old and quiet, but as we began to notice, there are many locals here for a short getaways.
The onsen were also clean enough for us to dip in.
