We were in room 312. Excited for a couple’s oceanview night to only learn our room was located directly outside the elevator, with large noisy AC units obstructing our balcony view and loud music til 3am from the bar downstairs. We didn’t even wait til 11am to check out. So disappointed when we call to see if we could be moved, but no other rooms were available. I was told I booked an ocean view room, not oceanfront. So just know if you choose overview, there’s no guarantee you won’t have obstructions like us with the large AC units.

Not enough parking on the premises for guests. At my arrival, the room had a smell like it was closed for a long time. No hot water to bath. The 2 elevators broke at the same time. However, the elevators were fixed quickly, the rooms, beds and pillows were comfortable. The location was fantastic. The building looked in a good state of repair. It was raining and the restaurant, Calypso, was almost flooded with the water leaks everywhere. The food was not bad, but not great for the price... too expensive.

overall condition of hotel and exterior grounds are poor. building renovation required. pool and exterior walkways in poor condition and dirty.

The pictures that are shown online are totally different from the actual hotel.The hotel is dated and the carpet was not clean-looking.

Beautiful views, doesnt have onsite parking so you have to park a block away but lit parking lot

Surf Break is the best. The staff is very friendly, attentive and they go above and beyond to make your stay worthwhile. This was our third summer in a row staying at this hotel and we will be back again! We love you Surf Break and we miss you.

It’s my favorite mid priced hotel. It needs so minor renovations like carpet and ac units but the staff is always friendly and helpful

The hotel is in need of an upgrade. Carpets in the halls were filthy. The rooms on the second floor were non-smoking but the hall, stairwell between first and second floor stunk of marijuana. I was made to sign that there would be no smoking in my room but the room next door continually smoke marijuana to the point that it stunk up the hallway and stairwell right outside our rooms. Also, for some reason I was checked out on Sunday even though we were staying until Monday. This caused our room keys to not work. I had to make 2 trips to the desk to get keys reactivated. The staff argued with me that I checked out before she realized the mistake was on their end. She seemed annoyed with me. I will have to say that the 2 gentleman that helped us to our room with our belongings were amazing. Also, the gentleman keeping the pool clean was very friendly.

Waking up to blaring music due the 5K and 10 miler at 6:15am was extremely inconvenient.

Great service. Housekeeping brought us clean linen the next day without us having to ask.

It was not bad, a little priced for what we got

I was so disappointed by this hotel. It’s not fair that hotels such as these can charge an average of $400 a night and we are left to fix the toilet every time we used the bathroom, dirty carpets, furniture and water bugs/roaches The staff was really nice and I hope the higher up management takes the lead and fixes these issues so they may excel alongside a property that cares about the guest. Front desk can only do so much. Front desk sent maintenance multiple times during our 3 day stay but nobody was able to replace the part in the toilet tank that kept causing us issues. We gave and literally had to open the toilet tank and fill up the tank ourselves by pushing the fill valve down, wait for it to fill and then flush. We left the top off the tank for the remainder of our trip. Just very inconvenient and at 3 nights for $1160 is a scam. On arrival we also had carpet that was not vacuumed, there were peanuts and chocolate bits on the floor and crumbs all over. No attention to detail. Stained furniture uncomfortable beds although the sheets were very soft and those were clean as well as towels. Front desk said they would send someone up to vacuum & check the toilet while we were at dinner our night of arrival and never did. We saw multiple roaches/water bugs in the elevator as well. It was just an unfortunate situation and hotel stay. We won’t be returning. The smell of marijuana also perforated the halls, elevator and outdoor area, just not a good vacation stay.

Me and my wife enjoyed our stay at the Surfbreak Virginia Beach Oceanfront, Ascend Hotel it was a wonderful three days well spent.

The staff is excellent, the hotel is clean and the view is fabulous. The hotel can have an update but other than that perfect.

Friendly staff. Room was dated and needs new furniture, but clean. TV cable did not work. A/C unit was extremely loud. No hot water. Parking is inconvenient and not on property. I was able to valet at check in, but had to pick up my keys at front desk and retrieve my car at check out. Valet was complimentary. Convenient location to beach and Fun Park.

Everything in the hotel was good except for the restaurant in the same place downstair, horrible service and the food wasn’t good, the carrots and celery seemed expired and it was expensive.

Some of the staff was great. The room was NOT clean upon arrival. I had to clean. We had three towels for one adult and three kids. That on the second day I had to ask not once but twice for extras and I got asked how many guests I had. I felt like I was lieing? I had to ask more towels the next day as well. Because when I asked for more I still only got 3 for 4 guests. Beds were never made. Rooms never vacuumed. Swept. Bathroom never wiped down. Drawers were broken. The people next to us screamed the whole day at each other and night. Was an awful stay.

It was right on the beach but the carpet in the room was old and gross, no AC in the hallways and not much onsite parking and you have to walk a block. Also as a con the hot water didn’t last long and the tub had a slow drain. Staff was incredibly friendly. No breakfast option but there is a connected restaurant. The beds were actually pretty comfy and it had a beautiful view! The room was spacious.

Restaurant downstairs was excellent. Rooms were clean - just could use some repairs/replacement for old furniture. Staff was great - very nice and accommodating.

The staff was fantastic. Very kind and helpful. The hotel its self is very rundown and dirty. We had to request extras sheets to cover the couch before you could set on it. The bathroom was very clean. The restaurant was excellent.

First time going to Virginia Beach so I wanted the convenience of being ocean front. The trip was planned a little last minute so I didn’t have much time to research. But at the end of the day I personally feel $1400 for a (4) night stay was very over priced. The bed was a king sized bed on a queen frame, the bed it’s self was worn out and not comfortable and to top it all off the hot water in the shower would last about 10 minutes. Also the AC unit was noisy and didn’t really cool the room down all that much. I feel like this hotel needs a whole remodel / Update. Personally I don’t think I would use this hotel again.
