Cannot beat the location for a night or two in San Jose, and super affordable. Less than a block from Jade museum and National Museum, easy walk to Gold museum and Central Market. Charming boutique hotel, accommodating kind staff, room was a great size, bathroom was nice, view was of the city on one window and out to the mountains past the city on the other.
The only con anyone mentions in reviews is it is literally right next to a commuter train track, so go in with the expectation that you'll hear train horns at 6am. But they stop during the night between main sleeping hours, and if you know yourself you'll know if that will bother you or not. Nice breakfast, fresh fruit, gallo pinto, eggs, bread. Discounted gated 24/7 parking right around the corner.
Just a very charming place to stay right in the heart of the city that feels calm and serene inside.

While the building is historic (0ld), the bathroom was updated and functioned well. The room had tile floors and was clean. The staff were very available and helpful to this English-speaking client.
The beds are not very comfortable, somewhat on the hard side. But, for the price of the hotel, it was acceptable to me.
The hotel is only about 1/2 block from Avenue 2, which makes it convenient for restaurants and shopping. Close to their national museum, and within walking distance of Central Market.

A beautiful hotel! The rooms aren’t anything fancy, but are comfortable and great for a short stay. There are plenty of communal areas to sit I. The rest of the hotel outside the room, and it is quite lovely out there. Nice breakfast with indoor and outdoor seating. I showed up a day early and they quickly changed the reservation and got us into a room. I would absolutely stay here again.

Very walkable location. Lovely buffet breakfast. Staff are nice but I had to ask for a map and tour info. Rooms come with a safe, which is nice. Great shower with soap. Clean rooms. Rooms are small but there are Lovely common areas where you can sit. The front porch is especially inviting. The hotel can be noisy about once an hour when the train passes behind it and blows its horn. But it’s quiet at night. Location is within walking distance to National Museum, Jade Museum, Gold Museum, National Theater, Artisans’ Market, Central Market, grocery stores and restaurants.

From the minute we got picked up from the airport I knew it was going to be wonderful. The hotel itself, a refurbished Victorian mansion, is absolutely stunning and beautifully decorated. The amenities are excellent and the rooms are modern and spacious.

We learned from reviews that most rooms have no AC at this hotel except suites. When I called to upgrade, Kailene upgraded it for free! Thank you so much! It was a nice room with jacuzzi, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very simple Costa Rican style. The only issue is the train passing, it starts by 5am and stops before 9pm. Just go to bed early and rise early. Healthy living!!

A fantastic, characterful hotel. Immaculate cleanliness, ceiling fan keeping room cool and comfortable. Friendly staff. Centrally located to explore central San Jose on foot. Breakfast: limited selection but fresh, tasty and plenty of it. Airey, spacious room with 2 double beds for a family of 4. New bathroom with a great shower. Cannot fault the place. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely property, centrally located, only a few minutes walk from the Plaza de la Cultura.

Right by the train tracks & the trains started at 5am then frequently thereafter, so be aware of this if you are a light sleeper.

By far, one of my favorite places to stay while in San Jose. Old Victorian mansion that’s well maintained and a treat to visually admire. Location is awesome, staff is welcoming, free yummy breakfast & the best part of all…….THE PRICE! Will always be back.

They treat you like a criminal at check in. By the train tracks. Old dilapidated property. Do not stay here. I stayed here because of the LP recommendation. Extremely disappointed. At least they did accommodate my room needs. At least I survived one night.

Overall our stay was about what we expected it to be from the reviews we had read. Since we were arriving late, the property sent us an email with the code to the locked hotel door, and instructions on our room locations, keys, etc. What they did NOT give us was any information on where to park our rental car, which wouldn't have been a big deal, except for the fact we were in an unfamiliar foreign country in which we did not speak the country's language--two things which make what normally would be a pretty simple problem one that was stressful and full of uncertainty. No one was on site at the property to assist, nor did anyone answer the phone when we called. Once I was able to find a pay lot and Google Translate my way through talking to the attendant, we were able to settle into our rooms, which were serviceable and clean.

Very nice staff, the hotel is cozy and quiet. Near the Jade and National Museums, within walking distance of several other places of interest. Limited number of places to eat, but can find more places and a within walking. distance. If checking in after 8pm, make sure to get before traveling instructions on how to get into the hotel.

We stayed three nights at this charming well-decorated boutique hotel with a French flair. The hotel is actually an original Victorian mansion that was converted. The hotel is located in the heart of San Jose near most major attractions (museums, market, restaurants, etc). The room we stayed in, the “Poma”, was spacious, clean, and had comfortable beds. By the way, all the rooms are named after flowers native to Costa Rica. We also enjoyed the breakfast which was included. But what made this hotel memorable was the staff. They were helpful, professional and friendly. They went out their way to make sure that we had everything that we needed. They even assisted us in making appointments at the hospital Clinica Biblica for our required COVID-19 tests. I would highly recommend this hotel. Value 5/5

I was a little worried about the neighborhood when the uber pulled up but we didnt encounter any problems. Overall I was really pleased. The hotel is a 100 year old house and the rooms, while small, are charming and super clean. The bed was comfortable and plenty of pillows and towels. It really had more of the feel of Costa Rica as opposed to the big hotel chains. I would definitely stay there again
