Upon arrival, the service was great, the staff were all friendly, helpful, and informative. When arriving they make sure to get you and your luggage checked in quickly, so you’re able to enjoy your stay as possible. Drinks, food, shows and service were wonderful. They also have a shuttle ($4/per person) to take you down to Playa Del Carmen, an endless streets of vendors, restaurants and shops. Beach access and a ton of activities + excursions (at an extra costs). Great choice for an all inclusive!

Pros
Lots of pools, chairs, and beach. Could be the time of year but not crowded.
Lots of bars and bar tenders. You generally must go to a bar for service but they were there to serve.
Lots of places to eat with a variety of resturants and buffets with long hours. Food was available from 6am to 11pm.
Swim up rooms are great.
Lots of places to sit and talk.
Cons
Super smart animals. Great for photos but they will get in you bags at the pool and beach and get in your room if you dont latch the door or while housekeeping is in your room.
Housekeeping can just walk in. Big place so they are cleaning on a rotating schedule and into the evening. Get a door block.
Food was hit or miss. I loved some of the preparations but the misses were big. Piles of warm sushi, grilled vegetables in oil water, sausages that were cooked into firewood.
TIPS
Lots of photo opportunities so be prepared. If ypu like taking pics or if you are an artist of any type.
Be prepared to walk. Big resort but worth it.
The room hallways connect so you can stay dry in the rain or stay out of the sun.
Learn the map so you dont miss out on all the things offered. For families there are lots of kid things, for couple lots of privacy.
The is not a lot of entertainment in the evening so plan accordingly. I was solo so I noticed more than others. There are entertainment events most nights.
I will back to this resort. I had photos but the software was glitching and i couldnt add them.

Everything went well except for one night where staff were on strike and closed a lot of amenities to the resort this issue took place for a day and was resolved the next day

Everything was amazing however the lunch and dinner at the buffet was not good at all

PROS:
Great dining options, exciting entertainment, amazing and welcoming staff!
===========
CONS:
Among diverse fauna here are plenty of coati, which are very cute animals but unfortunately most trashcans on the property and at the beach specifically are not protected against them properly, so could be accessed, which can spread trash and disease etc on the beach and surrounding territory. Trashcans need to be replaced with coati-proof type.
Also, hotel employees deserve a raise for their hard work! Last day of our vacation was negatively affected by employee strike due to poor pay conditions, and the hotel management should make appropriate changes and improvements in pay to avoid such strike in the future, which can certainly disrupt a hard-earned vacation.

We did get a room with pool access which you would think no one else would go inside your area because you paid for it. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Why even pay extra for it? Food was ok. very plain & repetitive . Customer service was ok as well. Lady upfront didn't even care to mention that the kayak and a mini boat were free to use & we had two closer buffets next to us. We did love the Theater & the shows they were very nice!. Also.. the cups they give you at any bar for drinks, they reuse them, which was kind of gross because we would see people leave the cups on top of the trash bin & these animals would start licking them .. so I really hope they don't reuse those. Thankfully, we had our own. Rooms were kept clean which was nice as well. Would I recommend.. no. Would I come back ..no sorry.

We came to the Grand Riviera Princess to celebrate a birthday with my family and unfortunately we had a really bad experience. The buffet selection wasn’t the greatest and to book a reservation with one of the restaurants was difficult all that was left was late night reservations. Lastly DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING AT THE SPA!!! We totally got scammed. This sales lady told us we would be getting 2 Princess’s packages for 2 hours and as a bonus she would throw in champagne with strawberries. All we would have to do is fill out some paperwork to confirm our package and appointment information. The day we arrive to our appointment and on time we were told unfortunately we couldn’t do the whole package in one day because they were closing soon even after booking the appointment days in advance from 4pm to 6pm no one said there was an issue until the day we arrived for the service. After informing them it was our last day at the resort because we would be leaving at 7:30 am the next day they still couldn’t accommodate us. When we tried to cancel because they weren’t able to give us the service we originally requested they said they would charge us 50 percent of the package which was 100 US dollars. No one ever told us there was a cancellation fee and also, I was cancelling because they were closing soon not my fault. After contacting the hotel manager Osvaldo he informed me there was nothing he could do because I sign the paperwork. Terrible service and experience would not recommend!!

We loved everything about the resort itself, very clean even with those stupid ciaots that got in my bag and left dirt on everything! the staff all were friendly and great! Want to thank Jose’ by the seafood restaurant pool swim up bar! Excellent service! Buffet could have been better, food not the warmest. We missed our reservation for dinner one night and were able to get into another one with the manager…thank you! Beach was smelly every day, but still beautiful! Liked that we were upgraded with our room that was a plus! Thanks for the great trip with my bestie for some girl time!

Very nice staff, buffets are yum, everything was very nice
2.0 / 10.0
Terrible experience at this resort, would not recommend or ever go back. Property completely run down! Beach not maintained daily, seaweed everywhere, and rocky beach.
Rooms are deplorable!! Mold everywhere and filthy!
Food- substandard and barely edible! Hard to get reservations at any of the restaurants we had to eat buffet daily. Upon check in we were harassed into buying a time share. If we asked the concierge a question they would also try to sell us a time share.
Lastly the spa…. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING!!! We got scammed at the spa by the saleswoman after filling out paperwork for our appointment She told us we would get 2 princesses packages with bonus champagne and strawberries. When we arrived to our appointment they informed us they couldn’t do the whole package in one day and we would have to return the next day unfortunately we were leaving at 7:30 am the following day and couldn’t return. When I said I was going to cancel because I couldn’t return the next day they charged me 100 US dollars for cancellation fee even though it was them that couldn’t give us the package we signed up for. When I spoke to the hotel manager Osvaldo he said he couldn’t do anything since I signed the paperwork. Just a total scam!! This place is a rip off not 5 star and overpriced. I wouldn't even recommend this place to my worst enemy!!
Do yourself a favor And go somewhere else!!

It wasn’t as nice as it was before. We went in 2014,2015,2016 and it was very nice. Stuff is not friendly, food is the same every day and not as much as it was before. Everything is dirty. Wat to much animals no animal control , if you go swimming they go inside your bag and eat your food, and steal from your bag. They looks like racuuns and they go through garbage make a mess and then go through people stuff and steal food and drink from your cup. This is very dis costing. I would never go back there.

Few things- there was no Do not disturb card outside the room door, which disrupts your sleep as they come in any time.
# The room had a weird smell which won’t go away (moisture and dampness), also water was leaking through the AC duct.
# Too many mosquitoes in the room
Good points: Hotel quite big, not too crowded, so many pools and food was good too. Shuttle services from the room to different destinations which was nice.
Beach was closer, amazing beach and lots of cabanas.
6.0 / 10.0
The property had no room service it was an additional cost. It took long for us to check in the shuttle comes every 5-10 minutes but sometimes we would just have to walk because it would be full. The internet was always on and off for our entire stay.

The installation is very good, sage, clean inside the room and outside also. The only issue my room 6051 had problem with the a/c and the small fridges
2.0 / 10.0
Concierge not very helpful when it comes to booking for restaurants only 2 at time intend of planing your whole week, offering chicken tacos ? I took someone telling them we will be eating tacos all week and to find out they don’t even have steak or pastor only Tuesday not cool, daughter got a food allergy took her to Patron store for eye drops and was sold ear drops which burn her eye, Cinthia from same store fighting with me instead of correcting the problem for selling me the wrong medication. Fridge not working on room. We had 2 rooms 6046 and 6051
Great place however don’t think I’ll ever be back not happy with service.

Pools were pretty dirty, dinning was limited especially for early birds like us. Who have a kid that naps at noon so getting her lunch was impossible. Never was offered room upgrade nor anything but was asked if we wanted to pay for more amenities but then told off looks like you have that, when we refused.

The atmosphere, cleanliness, pools, pool bars, beach bars, and beach were all excellent! All resort workers were friendly and professional. The shops, bars, and dining rooms were impressive. Our concierge, Mauricio was so helpful with restaurant reservations and reservations could also be made on the resort app (very easy)! Lots to do, lots of entertainment. Great resort!! Would definitely go back!!

It was a wonderful experience, you can enjoy observing wildlife in a safe environment, I highly suggest it to animal lovers. I highly recommend making the restaurant reservations upon arrival since they get booked fairly quick expecially the Steakhouse restaurant.

We absolutely loved this resort for our honeymoon! We got an amazing deal w/Expedia that included everything, flights, stay, & it's an all-inclusive resort so all food & drinks were included. There were 9 restaurants, 4 buffets & 5 a-la-carte ones (2 Mexican, 1 French, 1 Asian, 1 Italian)to choose from, all across the resort. Multiple bars, including beach bars & swim up pool bars. Taco & burger stands as well. There is a HUGE network of pools connecting to each other (& also separate pools with different vibes) & if you book a swim -up room (we did), you can literally walk out of your room off the patio right into the water. There are built in sun loungers & table as well in the water. That was by far our favorite aspect of this resort. There were plenty of cabanas & lounge chairs for everyone (just make sure to claim your cabana early am for a good spot). The beach was absolutely gorgeous & the water was very clear, & though there were spots of seaweed around here & there it was no issue. VIP/platinum sections were also available & were lovely, though I'm glad we didn't pay extra for it (it was a perk of booking with Expedia). There is a variety of roaming wildlife around the resort & we loved it. I still thought they were cute. There were daily sports & daily/nightly activities. Overall clean & well kept. We loved it & would return!

Here is my review of the Grand Riviera Princess and Grand Riviera Sunset. The 2 resorts are virtually the same on the same property, making the entire resort huge with plenty of walking, although a shuttle runs 5-10 minutes apart. Check-in can be slow and do not expect joining rooms as we did although they were notified of this request 1 year in advance.
Pros: There are plenty of pools to choose from with an average depth average 4-4.5ft.
The many reservation type restaurants are good through the app.
WIFI throughout the property is beneficial.
Free in in-room bar is a nice addition.
The resort is close to 5th avenue Shopping area. $4 per person trip through a taxi van service.
Cons: The AC throughout the resort isn't the greatest. We had 2 rooms, and both were humid and sticky.
There are Coati everywhere (think of a monkey, and raccoon mix). These animals are everywhere and will spill your drinks, go into your bags and if you are on the first floor and leave your terrace door open, they will enter your room all in search of food. If you feed them, you will be bombarded with a hoard. Deer, racoons, and cats are on the property as well.
The Buffets are mediocre. Restaurants are good. Drinks are watered down.
Resort allows a Timeshare company on the property called Royal Holiday, staff within the lobby area will be very disingenuous in convincing you to speak with them. DO NOT, DO IT no matter what they offer you to do so. Used Car Salesman Royal Pain
10.0 / 10.0
Very convenient you don't have to go out the resort, pretty much everything is inside the resort. The entertainment every nights is awesome! Buffet foods are very good. The reservation restaurant is good even though we did not get to try all the restaurant. One thing we did not like is the time share masquerading as Royal holiday. we thought we were going to sit for 90 minutes of presentation about holiday and cruise but turned out to be a 3 hours of high pressure sale to get us to sign for a contract membership. what a waste of 3 hours of our holiday time.

The only issue was the rocks in my the beach water.. I hurt my feet.. i also did not like the pastas. I really liked the habachi restaurant
8.0 / 10.0
Overall, our stay was quite enjoyable and the staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. We upgraded to the Platinum bracelet and appreciated the added conveniences, such as the more comfortable beach lounge chairs and closer access to the buffet near the beach. The additional fee was well worth it.
Our only critiques are that the food leaned more towards traditional North American cuisine and felt less authentic. Additionally, the beach and water had quite a bit of seaweed, which made swimming less appealing.

This property is amazing. It is truly a place for families. We had a great time and want to say thank you for all the staff. There were so many things to do with families, fun activities, buffets were good, there was something for everyone. Will defiantly come back again.

We had such a good time staying here! Special thanks to the photographer who took care of pictures for our engagement!
6.0 / 10.0
The staff, and upkeep of the property was great, the food wasn’t the greatest, and the distance between everything was just too far! Lastly the animals roaming the property was just too much.
6.0 / 10.0
The positives are the grounds are beautiful, the natural wildlife and the service was good. Beach area is nice.
Room service was great. Food was better than the buffets. If you like to walk this is a place to walk. The larger pools were nice.
Our suite was big but definitely dated. Beed upgrade. Bathrooms were nice and had plenty of space and were good. Sleeping area and decor is outdated. No drawers available so we stored our clothes in closets and shelving was minimal. The shelf in c was high so we felt disorganized. We were on second floor and the building had rooms in first floor which had direct access to pool. The pool needed cosmetic maintenance.
Outside the resort was not as nice as Cancun. Traffic was hectic and we had an experience with a local gas station (car rthey tricked us into paying an extra $20 for gas. Rather lose $20 than to put my family at risk. Its part fo being a tourist anywhere but was not fond of the area.
Buffet was hit and miss. Sometimes they had really good food and sometimes it was regular average food. The specialty restaurants were good! Especially the tepanyaki restaurant.
I would not go back simply because price vs value was not there. I have been in smaller properties in Cancun that offer same price and a bit smaller rooms but the feel and is much better.
like the location of the resort as we did three awesome excursions and all were close. I would rather spend a little more on another resort in the area.
4.0 / 10.0
I liked that there were animals around the hotel. Did not like when You arrive at gate hotel the building was peeling a cracked. The place is big and you have to walk everywhere and takes 10 to 15mins just to go eat something. The reservation restaurants were very poor in food and appearance. They turned a buffet into a restaurant. Instead they could of remodel it and make it something different. Didn't seem evaluated. Drinks were made well. Pool access was ok it had animal poop in it. And the cabanas for the pool were always taken couldn't get and even paid for platinum area and they let anyone over there so I didn't even have to pay extra since everyone goes there. Also was approached to become a member my husband and I sat over 90 mins presentation. We were told we would have breakfast in platinum Yucatan and go view the property. They didn't do any of that. They took us to our regular buffet and show us a not ketped villa. Gave us a 25 min message with hydro access which was just a pool coupon for the spa. Was not worth the time we wasted. I say we wont ever go back to this property ever again. We stayed at the royal sands and the hacendia and they were beautiful and well kept and update and you can also buy some things for yourself there or toothpaste that doesn't cost over $10
