We loved the 144 winding stairs through tunnels leading to this great place. View was fantastic! Host was friendly, kind, and helpful

Gianfranco was an amazing host, and the views from the property were out of this world. Although there are a lot of stairs you have to take to get to the property. It was stated breakfast was included but it was just a coffee and some cakes. The view from the terrace made up for it.

Lovely property hidden away but close to everything. Short walk from bus stop or ferry. The video sent on how to get to Casa Mao was extremely helpful as sometime it is hard to find any location in Amalfi, especially if you have never been here before. Our host Gianfranco was extremely helpful and informative. Our room was clean and comfortable. Sitting on the terrace in the evening with a breathtaking view overlooking the city was wonderful way to end the day and breakfast there was a beautiful way to start it. Highly recommend a stay here.

Love our time here at Casa Mao. Spacious & very clean room in the perfect location in Amalfi. The view from the Terrace is one of the most beautiful views we have ever seen, especially at sunset. Loved the history of the place & the decor/meaning behind it all. Keep in mind, it is A LOT of steps to get to this property. So pack light and be prepared. Totally worth it though!

Gianfranco, the owner/caretaker of the property was highly responsive and accommodating with good local recommendations and personal connections around town to help get us into beach clubs/restaurants that online said were at capacity. He met us at the ferry and walked us to the location, which is a little tricky to find and up many stairs. The view from the roof was very pretty. The room was clean, comfortable and larger than most.

Our room at Casa Mao was beautiful and extremely clean! Great views just outside of the building and terrace that we unfortunately didn’t check out. The only con is the amount of stairs to get to the building, but after walking them you deserve the pizza you’ll be eating!

Being as objective as possible, I would rate our experience a 3.5 out 5; The owner/manager does his best to service our needs but overall the location of the property and his desire to save on expenses made our short stay less enjoyable. He welcomes his guests at the port but for a reason...There is absolutely no way you would find your room if he was not there to guide you. The ascent to his guesthouse is by far not for the weak of heart. Especially when carrying your bags. It is 150 steps to climb and when you arrive through a myriad of passages you are completely drenched in sweat (especially in hot weather) by the time you get to your room. The rooms are clean and spacious, and the owner tires to make the most to make your stay as enjoyable. However, there was one big problem with his setup...the air conditioning was centrally controlled and those 2 nights we stayed, we could barely feel the cold air in our apartment. I understand the need to control expenses but you could sense his desire to make sure we did not consume unnecessary energy. Open a window, and the energy shuts off to the AC. The recent heat wave in Italy made our nights not too pleasant in Amalfi. The big question is whether we would return and the answer is no. Unfortunately its location and amenities are not recommended for an older couple or traveler. But, if you are a younger traveler with limited budget, it may be considered.

Casa Mao staff and manager was very helpful. He met us at the port to guide to his hotel. Also, very well managed facilities with nice rooftop. You should be aware of 150steps to get to the Casa Mao but its pretty normal for Amalfi hotels. I highly recommend Casa Mao in Amalfi.

Gianfranco was incredible and kind. The house is outstanding!! There aren’t enough words to express how awesome our stay was! Now. Regarding the stairs. If you have a problem with the 150ish steps to get to the property, let’s be honest, you’re gonna have a hard time in Italy. It’s not that intense. Suck it up, take a break, admire the beauty of the town and keep trekking!!

Area is beautiful, building has an incredible and unique history to it and the facilities are in wonderful condition. The manager, Gianfranco provided excellent service and went out of his way to make sure our stay was as comfortable and convenient as possible.

Casa Mao is a beautiful property with great views from the roof terrace. Very kind owner who helped us with our bags up the many stairs. Rooms are big, comfortable beds and clean. Definitely recommend Casa Mao.

The owner, Gianfranco, was very accommodating and went the extra mile to make our stay at Casa Mao a wonderful time. The guest house itself was lovely - clean, spacious and very well maintained - and the large roof terrace had the most beautiful views of Amalfi. Casa Mao was hard to find initially, but Gianfranco was very helpful getting us and our luggage up the many steps - it is quite a climb but worth it! We would highly recommend Casa Mao if you need somewhere to stay in Amalfi.

Great location. Clean. Breakfast average. Too many steps but great view.

Booked Room 1,bi-level, large bed folding bed,1 small balcony 1 large terrace; smoking permitted in the areas. Sweeping view of Amalfi town, sea and dramatic cliffs/ mountains. 2 smart TVs. All in Italian. Flashdrive for movies in the evening? Note room 1 is right next to the foyer/ reception desk/ front door entrance to the hotel. This may be consideration for those seeking privacy! Casa Mao is not attended to 24/7 but it is unproblematic to contact owner via WhatsApp. Cooked breakfast (without license) is not allowed, hence the packaged food. Housekeeping daily but NB., any small stain will be charged to the card details you handover at check-in. And I do mean small! Also pretty sure could be washed in a regular washing machine, however was informed this beige sheet would be taken to the laundrette. I was notified of this only once we had arrived at NAP airport. Left a bad taste after what would have otherwise been a lovely end to a short getaway. What a shame

Casa mao was a perfect place for us. We were close to the town Center, yet it was very quiet and the host was exceptional, he even met us at the car park to allow easy navigation to the property.

Beautiful property! Clean, spacious, and great decoration. Gianfranco, property owner is very attentive. He picked up us from the parking station, gave us recommendations of where to eat. Super nice!* If you don’t like stairs, this property is not for you! BUT otherwise it’s a great space! Worth the stairs! My husband and 6 year old really enjoyed our stay!

GiaFronco was a lovely and very accommodating host. Please make sure to have your correct number with your country’s area code. Do not attempt to use google maps to get to this place or you will be walking up the incorrect flights of stairs. Gia will meet you when you arrive and he will then guide you to this beautiful peaceful casa of his. There is not a car that can access directly to the front door and you will indeed have to walk up a lot of stairs. The view from this place is AMAZING. You will not regret. Really really close to the main square. I recommend using “ mydaytrip” service if you want a private driver. Taxi drivers here will rip you off

Great service and whilst the steps are a challenge they are worth it. One criticism...the breakfast was poor and every day bar one we ate out ....which was expensive. Think this is a big black mark against a lovely property. We stayed in Suite 1

My stay at Casa Mao was incredible and I loved every second of it! The view from my private balcony was amazing; I could see most of Amalfi Citta and the water! There’s also a rooftop balcony that’s available to everyone for free, which has the same view. The host, Gianfranco, was friendly, nice, and helpful the entire stay. The room was extremely clean, and wonderfully decorated. Unfortunately, the hotel isn’t handicap accessible, as you must climb a series of stairs to get to the hotel. From what I could tell, there are no roads leading to it. Also, be sure to provide a WORKING telephone number when you place your reservation because Gianfranco will contact you using it so he can Meet you upon arrival in Amalfi!!! Overall, I’m 100% happy with my stay and if I ever find myself in Amalfi again, I’ll be sure to spend the night at Casa Mao!

My husband and I recently stayed here on our honeymoon. The owner/caretaker, Gianfranco, was more than accommodating and was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were perfectly adequate and clean. We loved having breakfast each morning overlooking the beautiful view from the terrace!

The hotel has an extraordinary view of Amalfi from the roof top. The service was personal and attentive. The room was modern, comfortable and clean.

Gianfranco is a great host. He is extremely polite and puts the visitors first. He did a great job of recommending restaurants and taking making everything as easy as possible. The room was spacious and spotless. The breakfast was delicious and had the best view in Amalfi. There are many stairs to climb, but the higher you climb the better the view. I wish we could've stayed for more nights.
