Staff was competent and friendly
Junk fees! It is time to get rid of junk fees like the surprise resort/service fee that was charged at check in. Perhaps there was notice of this fee buried in the fine print somewhere, but I didn't see it. The practice of charging junk fees like the one charged by The Middletown Inn is deceptive and anti-competitive.

The front is a very charming entrance
Walking to and from the hotel you encounter what appear to be homeless bums and junkies. They ask you for money and cigarettes. I wouldn’t feel comfortable alone or certainly not with my wife out by herself. Shame, it’s gone down hill in the past 5 years since I visited last.

The beds were very comfortable. The room was lovely. The location was great.
The TV was glitchy. The bathroom sink had no warm water. The shower was hot one day and lukewarm the next.

what an Amazing place! clean, friendly, welcoming, beautiful, and centrally located in town. Many shops and restaurants close by.
The the most beautiful and amazing space. Very clean and friendly. I enjoyed my stay tremendously and the pool was never too busy and could be enjoyed in the most simple setting.

I have stayed here multiple times and it seems with new management a lot of things have changed. number 1 upon arriving they told me I had to be 21 to stay yet I have stayed here since I was 17. (The age requirement to stay was not listed on their website they should add that). After going back and forth with the receptionist that could only tell me she didn’t know and the policy just must have changed and eventually she let me and my family in. After arriving in the room we were met with dirty blankets/pillows and bugs in our bed. Also a dirty toilet. (I have pictures) This wasn’t even the worst part. The heater smelled awful, like burning plastic, the fumes were so bad we tried to open the window and it would not open so we decided to turn it off and remain cold. Overall the worst part of our stay was the FAULTY fire alarm. Me and my husband decided to take a hot shower with the door cracked open to hear our child in the bedroom and the fire alarm began going off inconsistently scaring not only me and my husband but our baby. And I mean it was so loud like horrible it would go off stop and continue going off and then stop again (I have a video). It was extremely loud. I ended up calling the front desk and the lady told me straight up she didn’t know what to do. I told her it was very loud and me and my family were scared. (As this phone call was going on I was soaking wet in my towel and my baby was crying). In the end she offered a new room. We gathered our stuff together went down to the lobby and then the woman told me and my family she had just gotten off the phone with her “boss” and she said “oh this has happened before you need to shut the bathroom door all the way”. WHAT? You’re telling me a smoke alarm is detecting the steam from my shower??? You’re telling me I am not able to have a hot shower and listen to my baby in the next room? Absolutely ridiculous. The woman then told us we could stay in the same room and to just shut the door.

Excellent, and accommodating staff. They went out of the way to make sure I had a quiet room, even with two wedding parties taking place that weekend. Lots of nearby restaurants that are walkable.

The Inn at MIddletown exceeded our expectations. It has been renovated and rooms are pretty big and well equipped. Location is perfect, close to Wesleyan University and restaurants and shops.
The tavern closed too early, at 9.00 pm on a Saturday. Food was ok but not great. However, staff were super helpful and very nice. I will give it another try on my next trip!
