We were so in love with the Sheldon House. It is beautiful, spacious, and has everything you might need. Cannot say enough about how beautiful and historic the home is.

Well kept, amazing property. Insane book selection. Good music. Excellent ambiance. Quiet even though it is in town. Feels secluded.

Wonderful property! Beautiful surroundings! Owner was very helpful when non-emergency issues arose and answered questions promptly. We will stay here again!

This older but grand house was a delight to inhabit for our annual sibling retreat. We're all about hanging out together, cooking and eating and playing, and this was spacious and well-equipped. The weather was rainy and cool, but we had so much space to play games, watch movies, and relax that we didn't mind!

The house was perfect for our group and communication with Edward was amazing! You can tell he is very passionate about the house and takes great care of the house! There is so much history in this house and he is so knowledgeable and willing to share everything he knows about the house! There was even a whole packet that he has been working on that we could read to learn more about the house! This house is huge and fit our group perfectly! Would definitely return again!

This house was built for a wealthy family and their staff, and it shows in the layout, with several very large bedrooms and a few smaller ones too. The kitchen is tucked away from the rest of the house, but has everything you need for cooking for a crowd. We baked bread, roasts, and at one point had at least 5 of the 10 burners going on the top.
When we arrived, the windchill was -30 and I think it may have been one of the coldest days on record. The lockbox froze but Ed was super supportive in helping us get into the house even though he was out of town himself.
Even with ~100 degree difference between the outside air and that inside, the house stayed warm. We were grateful for its size because the blizzard basically kept us inside for two days and there was still lots to explore.
If you’re looking for a sizeable property to gather a bunch of people, which has lots of character and space, this is an excellent find. And Ed couldn’t be more helpful, always ready to make sure we had all we needed.
The only deduction for cleanliness is that I think several of us had our dust allergies kick up a bit. There are so many nooks and crannies that I imagine the cleaners just hadn’t gotten around to a deep clean of our room in a while, but this is an issue easily fixed.

This was an amazing house to stay in, beautifully decorated, and has an awesome kitchen that was a delight to cook in! Edward was readily available by phone, and we enjoyed renting from him.

We were in town for a family wedding and needed a gathering place for family. This home met every single need and exceeded expectations. We are also a family of history geeks, so enjoyed a chance to stay at one of Jamestown’s historic grand old homes.
The kitchen and dining spaces were perfectly setup for feeding a crowd. The 10-burner stove was a dream to use! There was also plenty of dishes, etc. (all glass/china).
Edward was very responsive to my many questions. And spent a lot of time with us at checkin and giving a extensive tour. We would definitely rent here again.

Great Mansion
We were in town for family wedding. It was the perfect house with plenty of room for all 13 of us. The solarium was a great room for playing cards, games and relaxing after the days' events.

Short but sweet
Our group was in town for a funeral. We stayed just for the weekend. The home was the perfect place to gather as a group, with ample separate space to sleep and get ready for the various events. Ed was wonderful to work with and things could not have gone more smoothly. I highly recommend Sheldon House as a wo derful place to stay in Jamestown.

Beautiful Spacious Home
We enjoyed a week long family reunion at the Sheldon House. We had 13 people and we really appreciated the spacious living room, dining room and solarium. There was plenty of space for the children to play and for the adults to break off to talk or read. The bedrooms and bedding were very comfortable. While the home is stunning it is also very warm and inviting. Ed was a terrific host . . . checking in, responding quickly and offering recommendations. Nothing but good things to say about the property and the host. Thank you!

Wonderful Stay
We really enjoyed our stay. The mansion is beautiful, well maintained, and very clean. I has a nice and peaceful feel to it. We were in town for a funeral and it was a very relaxing place to be in the middle of a difficult time. The solarium was beautiful and a great place for our family to have a meal. I would highly recommend staying. You will not find anything else like it in the area!

Wonderful rental experience
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sheldon House. We are a family of 8 adults and 1 infant visiting the area to attend a family wedding. Communication with Ed was fast, easy and he was extremely accommodating. The house was like stepping back into historical grandeur. It was warm, inviting, and soon felt like home. We loved this house! Would definitely stay here again.

This is your chance to live in a mansion.
The Sheldon house was a great experience! You really feel like you went back in time to another era. Pictures of the place were true to life. We enjoyed the spacious rooms in the interior as well as the outdoor veranda. The host, Edward, was always available! Thanks for sharing your lovely home.

Four days of peaceful greatness......
My husband, five friends, and myself shared this amazing space for four days.
You can feel the great energy as soon as you walk in the door. The home is even more beautiful and spacious than the photos portray.
Ed was very easy to get a hold of and graciously gave us local suggestions on restaurants.
We hope to stay there again and make more memories. ♡

Great sister time!
What a fabulous time we had! The property was so cool to explore, so much room and well equipped! No fighting over bathrooms! Jamestown had great restaurants and many places to visit. Lillydale was a short drive and so much fun!

Great place
We had a large group and this house was perfect for us. The location was a little noisy - corner property and people liked to drive by with their car stereos blaring - but this was just occasionally. The description says there is RV parking, but it took us awhile to find it since the area had a chain across the parking lot. However, after communicating with the owner, it was all straightened out.
The interior is beautiful. We had three elementary children, so we were happy to see the dining area with a stone floor so we didn't have to worry about the children dropping food on the carpet in the dining room. All in all, the property worked well for us.
It is also within in driving distance of many attractions, such as Niagara Fall.

Family Reunion/80th Birthday Celebration
Following Covid, we finally had a family reunion and 80th birthday celebration for relatives from Massachusetts, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Kansas at the Sheldon House. Sleeping accommodations for ten adults were very comfortable. Due to rainy weather, we moved dinners and entertainment from our daughter's nearby farm to the home. It is a fantastic "old world" mansion in a great setting with plenty of space to enjoy. The owner was very helpful and cooperative. Highly recommended.

A return trip to a fantastic home!
This was our second trip to this beautiful, historic home. Eddie our host was super responsive and ensured we had everything we needed. It is an awesome place to get together with a group and it worked out great for us. Plenty of space to spread out, indoor and outdoor, great kitchen and 12 burner oven, casual or formal dining feel, etc. So glad we came. back - highly recommend!!!! Thanks, Eddie!

Surprise party for 80th Birthday
This was a perfect venue for a family get together,
Reunion, party, shower, graduation etc...
Family from out of town and locals all able to stay eat and gather together in one home! This was none of our hometown...but a pretty location on chautaqua lake and close to the guest of honor in Fredonia. No far off of an interstate for those traveling up from NC and down from Buffalo.
The large and well equipped kitchen was perfect for cooking in house instead of ordering catering, bringing the family recipes to life and maintaining any needed ingredient restrictions.
FANTASTIC!

Amazing Home, Amazing Vacation
When we booked the trip, we knew we were getting a nice place to stay, but didn't realize how amazing and historic this house would be.
Ed was an amazing host - contactless entry, available by phone/text anytime, and always available to answer questions. The house was immaculate and so much fun to explore. 11 of us stayed in the house, and at no time did we feel like we were crowding each other. There was plenty of space to play, relax, eat, and enjoy each other's company.
Easily the best family vacations we've had in years, and we will certainly be back again!

Unique and memorable trip
Edward was a great host who was so responsive and wanted to make everything perfect. The house is HUGE, and with that there are always going to be little things that break, need updating, etc., but you could tell he really cared and wanted to get as much as possible right for us. Jamestown doesn't have a ton going on, but there were a couple restaurants nearby. Overall, it was a very cool and unique home and the kids could not stop telling everyone we stayed in a mansion. And great for hide and seek! :)

Very Special COVID Family Thanksgiving
We had a very wonderful and memorable stay at the Shelby House. We had a small family group who came together for Thanksgiving and enjoyed the space, the beauty, and the history of the home. My sister and I love to cook and had lots of fun with the Garland Range. The fabulous Butlers Pantry became a source of fun as we explored ways to set our tables and display our food in a special way. And my husband wants a 3 minute Wonder dishwasher like the one there :). The dining room holds the grandeur of the early 1900s making each meal special. The bedrooms and sitting rooms are lovely and you can't forget to explore the Maid's quarters in the attic. Eddie is a gracious host and willing to help in any way. We look forward to a return visit!

Incredible place to make new memories
I stayed with a group of friends here and while the pictures looked great, the place itself really is something else in person. This is a gorgeous property, and it’s very well suited for staying in to cook and dine with friends as well as take walks around the historic streets of Jamestown. I hope to be back here again as the owner was very kind and helpful. Our stay couldn’t have gone any better!

Awesome Property Excellent Experience
This property was perfect. Our family had the most amazing experience. So many options for socializing and entertaining 4 nights was not enough to enjoy everything available to experience. To top it all off... if you've always dreamed of the opportunity to cook in a professional kitchen... this property is for you... cannot wait to stay again.

An amazing place!
My only complaint about our stay at this fantastic property is that we couldn’t be there even longer. Sheldon House is a beautiful and historic home that is simply gigantic which means lots of room to spread out and explore. The house is both elegant and so warm and comfortable, with something for everyone. Plush beds, an incredible stove and oven, and stocked with everything you need. The host Ed was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the booking and stay - was always super fast to respond to whatever questions came up. There is no question that while this may have been our first stay, it won’t be our last. Highly recommend.

Great stay!
Wonderful house for old home lovers like us. This house has a ton of history and character. I can’t say enough about how helpful and accommodating the owner Ed was, making sure we had everything we needed. Our kids ranged in age from 8-17, and they thoroughly enjoyed exploring the home (which they called the mansion). We had everything we needed for our six day stay. Thanks Ed!

Eddie was a wonderful “host” . The house was terrific for a family gathering because of its size and configuration.

Comfortable and Spacious
Our family had a very comfortable stay in the beautiful and spacious Sheldon House. Very interesting historical home, with large and tastefully appointed rooms. We enjoyed breakfast in the sunny solarium, dinner in the lovely dining room, and relaxing in the grand living room. The bedrooms were wonderfully quiet and cool, just right for sleeping, with four individual baths thoughtfully stocked with soaps and shampoo. The towels and linens were very plush, like an elite hotel might have. The kitchen area was well- stocked and so easy to use; the butler’s pantry is such a great space, giving an additional area to take care of cleaning up after a meal. The laundry area in the basement is well lit and clean, and the lovely stone veranda outside is a pleasant area to enjoy cooler mornings or evenings. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.

Amazing old mansion
The old Sheldon House of Jamestown - it has the feel of an original 1800s house. If you love to cook, you’ll appreciate the 10 burner Garland range and the new grill Ed installed. We were worried the house would be humid but it was 90 degree outside our entire stay and the whole house was cool and comfortable. Would def stay here again!

Wonderful retreat for our family of four
Ed's mansion was the perfect place for our family of four to get together for a change of scenery, enjoy ourselves, and work remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic. The internet service was perfect, and there were lots of great spaces to set up Zoom studios. The Garland stove was professional kitchen quality, and we had a great time cooking. It was also fun to eat in the elegant dining room. Ed was an amazing host...always quick to respond and answer any questions and give suggestions. I wish we could have stayed month to enjoy the beautiful space, great library, and awesome music collection.
Thanks, Ed!

Mansion with character
This is a renovated mansion in an older neighborhood in Jamestown. Ed was very attentive and accommodating. The house itself was huge and can handle very large groups. The grounds and landscaping could use some work. It was a very hot week, and there were several AC window units. We were comfortable, though some rooms were very warm. The neighborhood was once grand and now is economically diverse (like most of Jamestown). The property is about ten minutes from Chautauqua Lake, about 15 minutes from Bemus Point. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Gorgeous mansion with a wonderful host!
This home is stunning! Ed was immediately responsive to any contact I had with him. The mansion is magnificent. Absolutely everything was perfect for our family reunion. The home was clean, beautiful and had everything you could want and even more. The stove/oven is incredible. Each room is so very well taken care of and so beautiful. I highly recommend this home. You will not be disappointed. This is my most favorite rental I have ever stayed in.

Highly recommend
Ed was a very nice guy, he gave us a quick tour of this amazing home and mansion. He was in touch for any of are needs or just for local tips. This mansion had everything we needed covered and even things we didn't know we needed until we saw them. The place was simply amazing we canceled some plans just to spend more time in it.
