DETAILED BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You will have the peaceful sound of the ocean crashing ashore from your fully-equipped, lighted lanai; a restful sound that resonates throughout the spacious living and dining areas. You will breathe in the gorgeous unobstructed daytime view of all of Maalaea Bay, Molokini crater crescent, Kihei, and Mount Haleakala. Stunning sunrises over Mount Haleakala (for those few willing to get up at that hour, it is worth it).
The evenings are just as special; enjoy the soft romance of warm breezes, the tiki-torch-lit shoreline, the sight of a CLEAR MOON-RISE over majestic Mount Haleakala, the light shimmering across the bay.
You will appreciate this one-of-a-kind location. This condo is on the one and only residential street in Ma’alaea Harbor. Enjoy strolling down this quiet tree-lined sidewalk, listening to the birds, and inhaling the delicate fragrance of plumeria blossoms.
At the end of the road is Haycraft Park, just a short walk from the condo. This is where you will either enjoy swimming in sparkling clear waters or start your walk along four miles of beautiful, uncrowded, sandy beach bordering the Kealia National Wildlife Refuge. The walk from our condo to the park is 1/4 mile walk; or you can drive since there is a small lot at the park.
The wildlife refuge was established in 1992 and is home to endangered native water birds, and hosts migratory ducks and shorebirds in fall, winter, and spring. This refuge provides 700 acres of some of the last remaining natural wetland habitat in the State of Hawaii. Kealia Pond is nearly 250 acres when full. The refuge is adjacent to Kealia Beach, which is a nesting ground for the endangered hawksbill turtle.
More than 31 species of birds, such as the endangered Hawaiian stilt and coot, and migrant waterfowl and shorebirds such as the Pacific golden plover use this refuge. You can approach the refuge from your walk along the ocean, or use the roadway to access an interpretive kiosk and boardwalk along the beach and refuge mudflats.
In summer months, the Refuge Pond shrinks, and many more shorebirds congregate here to take advantage of food exposed as the pond recedes. As the pond shrinks, fish are crowded into the remaining water, making them easy prey for black-crowned, night herons.
Another advantage of the CENTRAL LOCATION OF MAALAEA BAY is the proximity of so many attractions, all within easy walking distance. You can stroll to the nearby FIVE-STAR restaurants, the Maui Ocean Center and Aquarium, the Yacht Marina with tour boats for deep-sea fishing and whale watching tours, The Pacific Whale Foundation, and the Maalaea Harbor Village shops and restaurants.
Within the Maalaea Bay community of ten condominiums, Maalaea Kai, the building of Our Ma'alaea Home, stands out as an outstanding facility with well-groomed grounds. Barbecue is a delightful experience, with three grills and dining area just on the shoreline. Relax in the large heated pool, while enjoying the view of the crashing waves.
You will find everything spotlessly clean and completely furnished for all of your needs.
The AIR CONDITIONING is ducted from outside to BOTH the front and rear of our condominium, with INDIVIDUAL REMOTE CONTROLS for each room, affording desired, quiet comfort. FREE BROADBAND Internet plug-in cable hookup is provided.
We have maintained our home as a SMOKE-FREE, pet-free environment for the enjoyment of our guests. Please do not smoke on the lanai inasmuch as the smoke travels to other units. There is no smoking on any of the grounds.

We had selected this property based on the many postiive reviews and the 4.98 rating. Our goal was to find a property that was more central to spots all over the island. The unit was well appointed, very clean and easy to find. Our host provided excellent check-in instructions along with very thorough household instructions. One of our biggest surprises was the vastness of the outdoor grounds and the views from the property. Sea turtles were constantly in the rocks eating away at the sea grasses. The boat activity from the nearby harbor was very entertaining as well. Would highly recommend!!!
5.0
We traveled to many different locations on the island and our "base" was central to all of them. The place was clean and cozy. The kitchen made eating in a breeze. We would definitely recommend staying here for anyone looking to see as much of Maui as possible!
3.0
Unit was clean views of Maalaea Bay were beautiful
Kitchen was very nicely redone. Only one bathroom in unit it could use some work. The tub does not drain. You stand in 3 inches of water every time you shower there’s a note that says hair will clog the drain, but that’s not the issue I have no hair.
View of the bay from Lanai is beautiful, but the outdated old metal furniture set you right at railing Height and blocks your view, they could have updated lanai furniture that lifted you above the railing or maybe a lounging chair
The description says washer and dryer, but no washer and dryer in the unit. You must go down the hall and pay if you need to use the washer and dryer.
We’ve been coming to Maalaea Bay for 30 years fishing, it was nice, but the bathroom could be updated putting a closet washer dryer and would be no big deal and updating the patio furniture would be fantastic. I give it three stars.

The view was stunning, location centrally located to all activities. I would highly recommend this property

Gwen and her assistant was great to deal with, good communication. For us, it was the perfect location!
Again,
Thank you, Gwen!

This was our first time not staying on the west side of Maui. What we loved about this location was how close to the airport and Costco we were. The grounds of this condo building are absolutely beautiful. They are so well taken care of. There are ample sun loungers on the grounds as well as in the pool area. The condo itself was perfect for our family of three. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need and we loved that the freezer had an automatic icemaker. We made most of our own dinners and the BBQ area was perfect for that. The large lanai made for excellent whale watching. It was also a huge bonus that the condo supplied beach chairs, boogie boards , and a cooler bag. While the condo itself could use some updating, we know from other reviews that Gwen is planning that at some point. By no means did that take away from our vacation. Gwen was also very responsive to any questions we had. We would definitely recommend this condo.

This is a bit of an older unit so
If you’re looking for an updated condo- this may not be the place for you. With that being said let me tell you ALL the pros! You are right on the water and if it’s whale season like it was for us there’s no need to book a whale watch.. they are right there in the bay. Gwen even provides binoculars!
For anyone concerned about the mattress reviews, please note that there was a brand new firm mattress in place when we arrived!
Another thing to note is you have a reserved parking spot.. this is such a luxury. We did come home once to a worker parking in it but they moved without an issue.
The biggest pro for us was the location. Being central made it easy to get around and do everything we wanted.
I also want to mention communication- Gwen always responds quickly which gives you the feeling of security knowing if you have any problems she will be on it right away.

Wonderful location. Bathroom needs updating and the tv was difficult to use, but otherwise was a nice place to stay.
4.0
Lovely condo right in the water. Sit on the balcony and watch the waves, sunset, sunrise, stars. Turtles in the morning in the rocks right off the property. Well equipped kitchen with ice maker. Beach towels, chairs, cooler. Nice pool and short walk to a beach. There is a good breeze if you open the bedroom window and balcony sliding door. AC works well.
Items to note: the condo is directly under the flight path, so you’ll hear a lot of airplanes. This is the windiest part of the island, but did not bother us. Bathroom could use an update. Not near much, so expect to drive for restaurants, groceries etc. TV is quite small. As others mentioned, the bed could use an update. A bed in a box would be a big improvement.

This is your home if you want privacy and beautiful view

PROS: The view - oceanfront so the constant sound of the waves is soothing. One of the most gorgeous views to wake up to that we have ever experienced! Quiet - never once were we disturbed by other guests, traffic, or crowds. Location - about a five-minute walk to the harbor, Maui Ocean Center, the nearest beach and a small local grocer that serves a very decent breakfast and lunch. Grounds - beautiful landscaping, nice pool, laundry facilities and grill area. We even saw numerous turtles at the sea wall! CONS: TV - It takes three remotes and a page full of instructions to operate the tv. And we boomers never could figure it out so my husband did without football for the week. A/C - it is loud! The unit on the lanai sounds like an airplane taking off and after a while, it is annoying. Bed - needs a new mattress and when I stripped the linens upon check-out, we saw many stains on the mattress. Cleanliness - the entire unit needs a top to bottom cleaning and a fresh paint job. We had a few issues and the owner was very quick to send someone to take care of it. OVERALL: I would definitely stay here again. It is very budget friendly. You'll understand what I mean when you venture down to Wailea/Makena area. So if you don't want to spend a fortune on accommodations, this is a great place to stay!

Beautiful location. Lovely view. Well maintained grounds. Close parking. No complaints.

We loved staying at Gwen’s condo in Maalaea and for us the location was perfect. The view is beyond magical and it was really relaxing sitting on the lanai watching the sun set and rise and hear the waves. The condo had everything we needed. Would love to come back here in the future . The communication with the owner was great and she answered right away when we had a question about something.

We really enjoyed staying at this VRBO. The views were awesome and seeing the turtles daily was amazing. We're SCUBA divers and it is super close to one of the ports used. This was great for those 6:30AM dive boat meeting times. ;)
Lots of kitchen appliances available, AC worked great, parking is easy peasy, and its central location is a great home base to go both North or South on the west side of the island.
We hit some weather at the very end of our stay and the host was VERY accomodating allowing us a late check-out due to a changed flight time and even offered an extra day for us if the flight got cancelled. (Thanks, Gwen!)
We'd definitely recommend this VRBO to a friend and look forward to another stay.

We made the most out of our vacation and enjoyed what was made up to us. The beach front was gorgeous. We spot a few turtles on our last day and it was nice to wake up and enjoyed a cup of coffee on the balcony. The host was attentive and always responsive to our needs and questions. Upon arriving from a long flight, we were tired and everyone just wanted to sleep. While making our bed, I noticed a few things not up to standard such as sofa bed cover stained (looks like pee, it was yellow) from who knows when, pillows with sweats stains from maybe last several stay and old sheets that had a smell on like it’s been sitting for a while. (Think of sheets you wash and stored away for a long time and when taken out to use, its collects a weird smell). When communicated to the host, Gwen was apologetic and said she’s disappointed and it’s never happened before. A small refund ($110) given back to us for the inconvenience. The house keeper went to Target and dropped off new sheets. I was communicated new pillows were going to be dropped off but never did. Our family came for a vacation and everything should have been perfect but it wasn’t. We tried to make the best out of it. The highlight of our stay was the view, otherwise the unit is a bit outdated and could use fresh paint and new furniture. There were beach towels, camping chairs available to the guest, if needed. Also boggie boards and binocular. Not intended to be a bad review but just an honest review.

Very nice condo in Maalea! Clean, great little kitchen, porch overlooking Maalea bay! Saw herd of turtles (actually, correct word is "bale" of turtles) right off the front lawn area. Very easy walk to restaurant, shops in Maalea village. Good "home base" for travels around Maui.

It was a perfect week with my newly wedded wife in a perfect location to check out everything the island of Maui had to offer. We did not have a SINGLE issue with anything and the place was FULL of all the essentials we needed for the week and MORE! Highly recommend!

Location Location Location. On the ocean. Spotlessly clean, turtles and the best swimming pool on Maui

Gwen's place in Ma'alaea was perfect for visiting Maui. It's centrally located, making trips to Wailea-Makena, Kihei, and Lahaina a breeze. The sunrise is beautiful from the lanai, and the view is breathtaking, including whales and turtles in the bay. We highly recommend a stay here!

This is a great condo with a great location in the center of Maui.

View off the lanai is spectacular. Condo is simple but very clean and well equipped. Bed was very comfortable. The grounds and pool very well taken care of. Thx for a great vacay!!
5.0
The property was well maintained. The condo was beautifully decorated and we had a wonderful view of the bay. There is miles of beach to walk on and hardly any people using it. This was our 3rd time to Maalaea area. We are very familiar with area. Saying that our host sent very detailed information about the condo as well as maps, activties, other helpful information. It was a very relaxing holiday

We stayed here for about one week during our holiday. It was a great spot - quiet and spectacular views, while also being close enough to basically go anywhere! Gwen was great to communicate with and the property and condo are as described. We loved staying here and would return again!

Central location and beautiful view!

Amazing views
This condo has amazing views, and is in a quiet, private location. Enjoyed the local restaurants, whale and turtle watching from the lanai and walking distance to a pretty good beach. Hard to beat. We had hoped for a more comfortable bed, more updated amenities and to be able to listen to the amazing CD collection, but the player did not work. The fan in the bathroom was very loud and we had difficulty with the DW but eventually got it started. Overall, cannot beat the views, location and value for this place.

Excellent condo with beautiful view and central location
This condo was perfect for myself, husband and daughter. We loved the ocean view from the lanai, the immaculate grounds and pool, and the central location. The condo was very clean and well stocked. Clean laundry facility was great. Plenty of fresh towels and beach items. We would love to stay here again!

Ocean front condo in convenient location.
This is an ocean front property with full, direct views of the ocean (Maalaea Bay) from the living room and balcony. We saw whales daily. The complex is older, but both the property and this condo unit are well maintained and meticulously cared for.

A week In Maui
This property is in a convenient location to access all parts of the island. Located steps from the ocean. We were whale watching from the balcony. The condo was clean and comfy and the area was quiet and relaxing.

Great location!
Loved this condo! Great location - not too crowded and right on the waterfront. Easy to get to from airport and to other towns like Lahaina. Beach is right down the road, easy to walk to!

Just as described
Wonderful unit with an exceptional view. Great for sunrises, sunsets, whale and turtle watching . Watching the whales from the lanai was outstanding! Binoculars were provided but not always needed.
Unit was well equipped with amenities. Gwen (owner) was very helpful and easy to contact.
The bed was very comfortable as were all the furnishings. We never needed to use the A/C as the overhead fans and breeze coming in from the ocean kept the unit very cool.
Location was great. Easy access to store, beaches, restaurants and easy access to the highway to tour around.
Definitely hope to return next year.

Very accommodating owner
We got in at about 11:00 pm and a week later we were to check out at 11:00am, but our flight times had gotten changed so the condo owner let us stay till early evening so we didn’t have to hang out in the rental car for 10 hours!
Thank you again!!
