What a wonderful place to stay for Christmas and New Year. Very peaceful and quiet. We arrive a little early and the owners was so gracious to let us check in early. The house was very, very clean and decorate so cute. They even have some items for the kitchen such as coffee ,creamer ,sugar and spices. We wasn't able to catch any fish but did catch two crabs and four whelk in the crab pot. Enjoy going to Pine Knolls Aquarium, Cape Lookout and walk up to the wild horses on Sharkford Banks. If you want to get away from all the big tourist attractions this is the place to stay at. FIVE STARS

This home has everything! A tremendous view, wonderful hosts, well stocked and clean as a whistle! The minute we went to the back deck our cares of the world were gone! A pod of 15 porpoise greated us along with plentiful singing birds! Our first time in this area and it was great! Paddleboarding on the Sound, UTV ride at the cape, a little jaunt to Cedar Island. We ARE coming back!!!
Our dog loved the side fenced in area and the covered deck with locking gates.
**a side note, if you love camping and seclusion this is for you! If you like touristy shops, bougie atmosphere etc, this is NOT. The nearest store is a dollar general that may or may not have the necessities you need. If you head up to cedar island, the convenience store had a lot more food. (Sour cream, produce, butter, etc and even meat) we packed our food as though we were camping, so we were in good shape. Check the house first however, as Brenda and Richard may have already anticipated your needs! There was condiments, mosquito spray, coffee, sugar, salt etc etc when we got there! Lots of pans, dishes, utensils etc. Anyway 5 stars from us!

This is the third time staying here. The dock and deck are wonderful. Tied the boat up for the long weekend. Caught crabs and shrimp from the dock. Caught puppy drum in the sound and grouper in the ocean. Already reserved for next year.

I come here almost every year at this time to unwind before heading back to teaching. As stated in previous reviews, the hosts are so kind and hospitable. The covered back deck is awesome! You can just read and relax. If you’re looking for more activities, take a day trip to Beaufort, Shackleford Banks, or Cape Lookout. Closer is Cedar Island where you can spot wild horses and cows. Sometimes we kayak on the Core Sound. This year we only tied up floats to the dock and the water felt great. We got take-out from Paddy’s in SeaLevel and it was wonderful! Always a great stay!!

What a perfect time. We three older ladies wanted to play games, catch blue crabs and sit on the deck and laugh and tell stories. All successful. We caught so many crabs, we had to freeze some after our crab fest meal. Our pups had a better time than we did. Perfect set up for our little ones. Thanks so much to Brenda and Richard.

We only stayed a couple of days but the location exceeded our expectations. The only sounds were that of the water, wind and wildlife. While we were unsuccessful in fishing from the private dock we did catch enough crabs for a good dinner. The cottage was staged very beautifully and the owners were hospitable in ensuring we enjoyed our stay. If your looking for private location for some quiet moments this is the place.

We had a fabulous relaxing time away from it all. Very quiet and serene. Leave your "gadgets" at home. You're going to want to watch the pelicans diving for fish and the occasional dolphins in the Sound. Plenty of board games and a variety of books to enjoy. Fish and crabs were biting. We've already booked for next year - that should tell you how pleased we were.
Richard and Brenda are super nice! Invited us to a community July 4th picnic and introduced us to many of the town folk. They also shared bounty from their garden.

Two great restaurants nearby: Paddy's and Wild Bills Revenge. Dollar General 10-12 minutes away, Kitchen stocked with everything listed. If you plan to cook your own meals bring supplies with you. Mattress in spare bedroom needs replaced. Took 2 1/4 hour ferry ride from Cedar Island to Ocracoke. Worth the trip. The cottage is nearly 100 years old but is well maintained. Interior is decorated in a great beach theme.

What a lovely little cottage Brenda and Richard have! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay- we fished all day and relaxed at night. They have everything you need and then some. Thanks so much!

I enjoyed being on the water. The rental had all the essentials. Outdoors had wonderful seating on deck & porch to include benchswings & rockers. The units to warm or cool the property worked great. The dock was in excellent condition.
It was super easy to check in & depart.
A few things spoiled the stay. The rental had some roaches bigger than beetles, after seeing a roach scurrying across the bedroom floor from under the bed to under the dresser when I got up to use the bathroom it had me squirmish the rest of my stay, I was also greeted by roaches in bathroom & kitchen. I was then lerry if some roaches got into my bags or luggage as I didn't want any souvenirs of that kind. Something else that is minor but important to a stay is the quality of toilet paper this could easily be remedy by buying a better quality of toilet paper no reason to have the poorest quality toilet paper its rough on the bum and the delicate parts too. I'd also recommend more laundry pods when people plan to stay 5 or more nights this way the request to wash a load of bedding before departing is easy to ensure. The dryer screeches when running something to look at.
The price point to book the stay ends up being $181 per night so good quality toilet paper should be easy to provide, as well as some extra laundry pods & regularly fumigate is a needed investment.
Although the rental is plenty good to stay at the roaches would be a big deterrent for another stay at this rental.

Adorable little cottage right on the water. Owners are friendly and helpful. And the view from the patio is gorgeous, especially during sunrise.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is very charming, clean and comfortable. We had gorgeous weather so we spent a lot of time outside on both front and back decks. I would highly recommend this place. It wasn’t far either to drive to Beaufort for essentials or Atlantic Beach for a day on the beautiful sand beaches of the ocean.

The location was better than expected. The house was decorated so cute. We enjoyed fishing on the dock. We enjoyed all of the amenities. The Host & Hostess were very nice.
If we had the opportunity we would stay there again. - Jerry & LaRayne from Duluth

Wonderful stay at this cottage. I don't know that I can add anything new re how great this cottage and its location is. Other reviewers have pretty much covered all the reasons why staying at this cottage is great experience.

Very nice place with beautiful views.

One of the cleanest places we have rented. The back deck was perfect for coffee before dawn, and a walk to the end of the dock was even better after the sun began to rise. We didn't stay outside too much because it was pretty cold and windy the few days we were in Atlantic, but two afternoons I was able to get in nice long walks around the small streets of the neighborhood. Hubby and I took a drive to Harkers Island one day for lunch at the Fish Hook Grill. Highly recommend it! Mostly we just relaxed, read, watch TV, and cooked some of our favorite meals in this darling little house. It was perfect for us!

This little cottage on the water in Core Sound was perfect for us and our two small dogs. The view is amazing, the accommodation for pets made it a wonderful spot to enjoy the peace and quiet of the sound. The fenced in deck overlooking the water was perfect for us. We had out kayaks on the dock and it was a fantastic getaway from Maine winter for us.
Brenda & Richard are wonderful hosts and right across the street and their kindness and wealth of knowledge of the history in the area(and of the cottage origin) was fascinating. The house is wet equipped and there is plenty of info on the house and surrounding area for reference.
A quiet little refuge on the coast of NC and we will be back for sure!

Great place everything you could ask for. However if going make sure you have everything you need because sundries/stores are not close so you'll have to make a 20 minute drive to find a store that carries everything you need 😉
The house was perfect. We took our senior Jack Russell and our twin tuxedos kitties they loved it, small fenced in yard for Ms Sadie and many windows for the kitties. I would say this is the perfect retirement house I would pick it up and take it with me everywhere simply perfect. Recommended 101%

My boyfriend and I spend 4 days here in mid-December and loved the house and location. Watching the sunset from the back deck is amazing and we could feel our stress melt away. The house is cozy for two adults, and very comfortable. We cooked most of our meals since the closest sit down restaurant is 45 minutes away in Beaufort. There is a small take-out place close to the house and worked for us. The kitchen is small, but we had no problem cooking meals. We were looking for a secluded place to escape to, and found it here. We will definitely go back.

The little house is cute beyond description, the water views are wonderful, the hosts are absolutely the friendliest and accommodating ever. We would return soon but seems to be fully booked for many months.

Absolute best place to Getaway.. rental was by far the best equipped VRBO we have ever encountered.. if we needed it..it was there.. we will definitely be back

The house is excellent. There are new kitchen facilities. The back porch has been redone to accept at least 4 people. The side yard is fenced in and white picketed.
The house is nautical and "homey". It is air-conditioned in the summer and pleasantly warm in the colder weather.
There is a wide view of the Core Banks and the weather.
The neighborhood is friendly and welcoming to visitors.
There is a new post office, grocery service station that will have gasoline and diesel fuel by April of 2023.
I could easily live there.

I have never felt more welcomed and at home in a rental, and we’ve rented many. Exactly as advertised, but with so many amenities provided. The set up for our dog was perfect. Deck could be closed off so he only had access to fenced in yard area. Beautiful deck and dock.

Absolutely the best stocked rental we’ve ever used. Everything anyone could need was there. Brenda & Richard are extremely nice and there to ensure that there is nothing that is needed that’s not there.

We absolutely loved staying at this cottage! It was so quiet and peaceful and we had everything we could possibly need - our kind hosts thought of everything. I loved seeing so many marsh, inlet, and shore birds during our stay. We hope to go back for some astrophotography and I can't wait to paint from the many landscape reference pictures I took.
Thank for a comfortable stay and special thanks for being such a dog-friendly place to stay!
